Feds Probe Union Leader and Former Girlfriend of [New Jersey] Gov. Corzine
ABC News ^ | July 16, 2008 | Richard Esposito and Mark Crudele

Federal authorities have launched an investigation into New Jersey's largest state worker union, and of Gov. John Corzine's ex-girlfriend, Carla Katz, who until recently was its head, ABC News has learned.

As first reported by the Star-Ledger, investigators served document and record subpoenas yesterday on the Communications Workers of America in Washington, D.C. The investigators are looking into allegations that Katz misappropriated union funds, sources confirmed for ABC News. These allegations were first raised in the union's own probe into Katz' management of Local 1034, sources confirmed to ABC News.

They were made public last week when the organization's governing body voted to oust Katz and take over the operations of the New Jersey local. At the time, Katz denied those charges and called her ouster a travesty.

Sources said that the investigation is being spearheaded by a task force that rousts the mob, and probes corrupt unions, and not by the U.S. Attorney's political corruption unit which has convicted more than 140 politicians in the state, including Newark's former mayor, Sharpe James.

When Katz and Corzine broke up in 2004 - just before he announced his gubernatorial bid - he had given her gifts worth more than six million dollars, including trust funds for her two children. This in turn raised questions during the race for office about Corzine's ability to properly run a state government that employed thousands of members of Katz local.

Apparently, the results of Corzine's former frequent probes of Katz weren't available to the investigators...

Why do lefty men like such bitter looking women? I don’t know what it is about men and the hard left women. I’m all for women being equal, but some women just look rabid and I don’t see how that is attractive to a man. I don’t even mean she has to be a physical beauty, heck, I’m no supermodel. But I do smile alot and I have a good sense of humor. What is attractive about a complete b*tch?

Guess you haven’t seen a picture of Corzine. The Gov is fighting in court, apparently he’s said it will be to the death to keep the emails between him and Carla from public scrutiny. But he’s been losing in the courts.

Of course it’s not a big story in NJ or anything. He’s a liberal Democrat after all.

This will make the brain deads in Jersey want to vote for corzine even more. He’s their kind of guy. New Jersey is not the most corrupt state in America for nothing you know.
If Chicago or New Orleans became states New Jersey would lose its crown.

Some men are attracted to women they can’t control. It is the repeated tries and failures puctuated with very rare sexusal success that attracts such men.

Such men highly value what they so often try for and so rarely get. Such woman are nearly impossible to please and force men attracted to them to jump throught a million hoops in return for a small amount of acceptance.

A woman who truly cared for him and wanted a warm and caring relationship would not be attractive to him at all.

Corzine will win reelection with 120% of the vote. This is a resume enhancer to folks in NJ.

I have relatives who live in NJ who admire Corzine for cleaning up the state government (yeah).

I guess that is true. There are plenty of “Yes Dear” men out there. I’m just not one of those women who want one. I don’t want an abusive thug either. My husband and I discuss everything equally. We are true partners in our household and family. But he wouldn’t take any crap off of me and I wouldn’t him either. That’s why we have a detached garage he tinkers in! Nice way for us to “go to our corners” when things get too heated and we can’t discuss it rationally.

I can only pray this scandal saves us from the further outrages Corzine is planning after the November elections. He’s already hard left and he plans on going harder left.

How nice of ABC not to provide any particulars of what she did. I had to go a-Googlin’ and am still not sure I’ve got it.

It looks to me like she’s in a turf battle with the national union. When they tried to oust her, she hired an employee strictly to work on her re-election. Also paid for some staffers to attend some conference to campaign for her.
For these she spent about $130k in union money. Apparently the national union turned her in.

If she did it, she’s getting what she deserves. But this is so petty compared to what we know goes on in unions every day all over the country. Why her? Does the national union want her job so they can give it to another crony?

Au contrair. She's called a "first wife."
