Rangel's Pet Cause Bears His Own Name
Wash Post (front page) ^ | 7/15/08 | Christopher Lee

Posted on 07/15/2008 5:55:04 AM PDT by Timeout

House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Charles B. Rangel is soliciting donations from corporations with business interests before his panel, hoping to raise $30 million for a new academic center that will house his papers when he retires. ... ...a project that caused controversy last year when he won a $1.9 million congressional earmark to help start it. Republican critics dubbed the project Rangel's "Monument to Me." ... The congressman has corralled more federal money as well, securing two Department of Housing and Urban Development grants totaling $690,500 to help renovate the college-owned Harlem brownstone that will house the center.

My favorite part: His solicitation letter says
""It is a personal dream of mine to see this Center at City College..."

Personal. Yet our entitled politicians and bureaucrats think THEY shouldn't have to pay for their own PERSONAL dreams. That's what taxpaying suckers are for!

Remember this the next time you hear one of them decrying that Americans HAVEN'T BEEN ASKED TO SACRIFICE ENOUGH!

Hey, I have a personal dream too, it's the "M.K. Jessup Center for Radical Conservative Thought", and I can have this Center constructed for the bargain price of a mere half million dollars. Hey Rangel? Toss some of that filthy lucre in my direction, ok?

Rangel is the most bulletproof member in the House! He can do what he wants and short of arrest will get away with it.

I would gladly donate $12 for a flash drive to store all of Rangel’s “papers” if he would just go away.

Gratuities or blackmail? In either case, they seem to perpetuate the dummies culture of corruption.

Liberal shake-down a la Jesse Jackson. Rangel should be ashamed of his unethical behavior. . .but shame isn't something liberals are capable of. Well, except for white liberals who hang on to false guilt over things that happened a century or more ago.

It would almost be funny if it weren’t so sad.

Liberals puff themselves up because they “do good”. Once puffed, they begin to think they’re special. Special leads to a sense of entitlement, being owed generous privileges for being such a wonderful person. Once that line is crossed there is no limit to how they reward themselves with taxpayer dollars.

Of course, they never note that they’re going all that “good” with someone else’s money. Easy to be generous if it’s coming out of someone else’s pocket!

It would be cheap at twice the price if Congress were to print a check for $30 million for him and say, “Charlie, you can have this check if you sign your resignation and never return to Congress again. We need your decision now. (Final Jeopardy song starts).”

“House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Charles B. Rangel is soliciting donations from corporations with business interests before his panel”

I believe this is known as a “shakedown”. I didn’t know you had to pay the Chairman in order to do business with the Ways and Means Committee.

Wake up, people! This is what was formerly known as “graft”. The Congress doesn’t represent you, it represents itself. We’re being governed by a bunch of self-serving idiots.

Sounds somewhat similar to Sen. “KKK” Byrd, who has half of the public works projects in his home state of WV named for him. Charlie Rangel shouldn’t have anything more than a jail named for him and no public funds should go to this boondoggle.

In my case, what I view as rational would be considered 'radical' by anyone to the political left of the late Senator Jesse Helms.

In fact, the good Senator were he still with us might think some of my ideas a little radical himself, lol
