Conservative activists are preparing to do battle with allies of Sen. John McCain in advance of September's Republican National Convention, hoping to prevent his views on global warming, immigration, stem cell research and campaign finance from becoming enshrined in the party's official declaration of principles.
....
McCain is "really out of step with the strong majority of his party," said Myron Ebell, director of energy and global warming policy at the Competitive Enterprise Institute, which opposes McCain's positions on climate change. "He might get what he wants. And he might get a change. But I don't think it's going to sit well with a lot of Republicans."

"We are confident that this process will produce a platform that all Republicans will enthusiastically support," said Joe Pounder, a spokesman for McCain. "Our party is united, and will continue to work together to elect John McCain in November."

I don't think that platforms mean too much. After all, if a president doesn't govern as his platform indicated, what can you do - sue him? Hell, if it gets a few more votes and keeps us from a President B Hussein Obama, let him throw a few crumbs to the "moderates."
Having said that, however, I would like to see the convention nominate a conservative VP, REGARDLESS of who McInsane prefers.

"He attracts a lot of votes in the middle -- independents and moderates," Ebell said. But "if he pushes on each one of these issues -- campaign finance, immigration, or global warming and energy issues -- he's likely to keep a lot of people at home on Election Day." SIT DOWN, SHUT UP and just let McCain be McCain if you know what's good for you.

Conventions are coronation ceremonies. Nothing more, nothing less. McCain’s not going anywhere.
I’m just curious where this notion comes from.
Shoot the blame at the voters of New Hampshire, South Carolina, and Florida for McCain. And I guess we can throw California in the lot, too.
But really, nothing is changing about his candidacy.
To: CaspersGh0sts
Shoot the blame at the voters of... California. Don't blame me, I voted for Romney--my third choice. Since my first two choices, Hunter and Thompson were going nowhere, I figured Romney represented our only hope of stopping McCain.

Hell, if it gets a few more votes and keeps us from a President B Hussein Obama, let him throw a few crumbs to the "moderates." Why not just adopt the Democrat's platform and maybe get a few more votes for McCain. After all, the conservatives have no where else to go and will have to vote for McCain.
To: mouse1
You are new here so I’ll let you know that I was using sarcasm. If you read my entire post, you would have likely figured that one out. I don’t know if I am going to vote for that Democrat in Republican clothing or not. Right now, leaning towards “not.” I tried the getting drunk thing just to convince myself that voting for that crapweasle is a good thing, but I kept passing out before I could get drunk enough. I despise McCain. Absolutely despise the man. The only thing remaining really is the VP pick. If he picks another liberal he is showing that he does not WANT my vote.
He already doesn’t deserve it.

I don't think that platforms mean too much. A party without a platform is like a politician without principles.
If nothing else, the platform allows us to determine whether the elected official is loyal or hypocritical.
And I'll take the hypocritical politician over the amoral politician any day. At least, one of them knows the difference between right and wrong, while the other has no concept of right and wrong.

We have hundreds, if not thousands of highly qualified conservative potential candidates in this country, yet we wind up with this maroon for a candidate.... I think that our nomination ‘process’ needs to be trashed and completely rebuilt.

You must have been looking over my shoulder ... or visa versa.
My choices were the same, Hunter, then Fred and third Romney. This primary season seem to have candidates that didn't pursue it full out (Hunter) or didn't seen to have his heart in it (Fred). I'll say again that Romney was more conservative than McCain, plus he had the experience that we need now in leadership ability and economic knowledge.
McCain lacks in all three of these areas, however it is either him or a socialist cum communist. Not good for the country or its citizens.
I don't believe the convention will "toss McCain under the bus" and give us a better candidate.

Too many but I guess it depends upon how one defines “McManiacs.” There are many who cannot stand the POS but will vote for him. I understand their reasoning and given the right motivation I could become one of them. Then you have the dips***s that actually seem to like the guy, there are really very few of them around here...at least vocal ones anyway.
