Ex-Prosecutor’s Book Accuses Bush of Murder
The NY Times ^ | July 7, 2008 | TIM ARANGO

Posted on 07/11/2008 2:41:45 PM PDT by forkinsocket

As a Los Angeles county prosecutor, Vincent Bugliosi batted a thousand in murder cases: 21 trials, 21 convictions, including the Charles Manson case in 1971.

As an author, Mr. Bugliosi has written three No. 1 best sellers and won three Edgar Allan Poe awards, the top honor for crime writers. More than 30 years ago he co-wrote the best seller “Helter Skelter,” about the Manson case.

So Mr. Bugliosi could be forgiven for perhaps thinking that a new book would generate considerable interest, among reviewers and on the broadcast talk-show circuit.

But if he thought that, he would have been mistaken: his latest, a polemic with the provocative title “The Prosecution of George W. Bush for Murder,” has risen to best-seller status with nary a peep from the usual outlets that help sell books: cable television and book reviews in major daily newspapers.

Internet advertising has been abundant, but ABC Radio refused to accept an advertisement for the book during the Don Imus show, said Roger Cooper, the publisher of Vanguard Press, which put out the book.

ABC Radio did not respond to a request for comment.

Mr. Bugliosi, in a recent telephone interview from his home in Los Angeles, said he had expected some resistance from the mainstream media because of the subject matter — the book lays a legal case for holding President Bush “criminally responsible” for the deaths of American soldiers in Iraq — but not a virtual blackout.

The clown was featured on a rado interview two weeks back that was broadcast on 102.3 WSUS FM.
The guy said he had proof that Bush is guilty of murder.
I shut the car radio off and focused on driving after hearing that one.
I didn’t hear that he’d been a prosecutor.
Must have gone to his head.

At one time I admired this man, but no longer. Poor Mr. Bugliosi, addled by time, trying desperately to make a new media splash. But this is just silly.

Vincent Bugliosi was on a talk show last week selling his stupid book. As a previous prosecutor he should know that with many murder cases, yo go after any co-defendants, conspirators, accomplices. So this idiot should include almost the entire Congress. But, NO,not a mention of that. The guy is an idiot.

Of all the (generally author self-aggrandizing) books published in the wake of the Simpson trial, Bugliosi wrote perhaps the most lucid and insightful analysis of the entire fiasco.

It's sad to see how far he's fallen, and listening to him discuss his thesis for this book makes me think that during the trial that made Bugliosi a ntional figure, Manson may very well have been the sanest person in the courtroom.

This man is a complete loon. That didn’t stop MSNBC from having him on this morning.

He mainly wants the President prosecuted for declaring Iraq an “imminent” threat. Everyone on this site knows George Bush did NOT say that.

Not really news. He went hard-left about ten years ago, writing a book about how unjust it was for the SCOTUS to allow Clinton to be sued by Paula Jones. The whole thing was a useless rant — imagine a left-wing Dennis Miller on a near overdose of meth. Since then, he's had his microphone shut off so many times nobody even invites him on talk-shows anymore. That's the real reason why nobody's heard of this book anywhere to the right of the no-brain side of the blogosphere: Charlie Manson gets a more respectful hearing at his biennial parole denial.

Not to worry. The only poorer marketing scheme than promoting a book on MSNBC is selling copies door-to-door.

Maybe Manson was telling the truth after all.

Seriously, the claims of Bugliosi about Charlie’s motive of Helter Skelter has always been strenuously denied by the mastermind. Maybe the Bug really did make it all up because it’s a juicy story.

I heard this whackjob on Democracy Now! a few weeks ago.

It is apparent that he hasn’t the foggiest clue about the structure and burden of proof of murder laws. Bush neither intended the death of soldiers, nor was he the proximate cause of the death of soldiers. Regardless of whether the war was legal or not, simply putting a volunteer soldier in harms way does not constitute murder. Assumption of risk, intent, proximate cause, etc. — there are so many flaws in this legal argument, it would take a hundred pages just to point out all the holes.

Murder law require INTENT to kill, genius. Murder laws require the murderer to be the proximate cause of death. This is a flimsy argument by a washed-up has-been grasping for a last sniff of fame. He’s a hack.

It might have been a little over the top to compare him to Mike Nifong, and I have not read his book, but I have listened to several interviews and his case has too many holes. Mostly in selective and unsupported interpretation of International Law.

Mr. Bug may have been a helluva prosecutor at one time, but I think his “senior moments” are getting too close together if he really thinks anyone is interested in his politically inspired rant. He didn't spend all those years in Californication for nothing.

Great idea using those ads on “liberal blogs”. Some people will “buy” anything.

But the Libtards think that a sternl;y worded letter will deter fanatic maniacs who thin killing us is the will of All-Ha.

It counts as an act of war and a violation of the agreements Iraq made at the end of the first war.

I do not number myself among those who thing that going in to defeat Iraq was wrong.

I've read that Manson was trying to intimidate Terry Melcher (who used to live in the Tate house) because he felt ripped off for $5000 in royalties owed (or he felt was owed) for the Beach Boys recording one of his songs. Manson probably thought that doing a copycat of the Hinman murder, which he knew about, would conceal his motive and at the same time might mess up the murder trial of Bobby Beausoleil, a sometime friend whose troubles he felt responsible for. Hinmans murder was probably what Beausoleil has recently said it was, a drug deal gone bad (not unlikely when you get mixed up with ex-cons and biker gangs). The case against Beausoleil was hard to make and the first trial ended in a hung jury. This scenario makes a bit more sense than the "LSD and Beatles music cause mass-murder" theory Bugliosi sold to the jury. They still should have fried.

For a really good look at how unhinged and full of himself Mr. B. is, take a look at this interview he did for the Seattle PI books section:

http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/books/2008035063_bugliosi070.html

Here's a quote for ya, from the horse's @sses' mouth:
"There's a substantial likelihood as a direct result of this book, that Bush is going to end up in an American courtroom being prosecuted for murder..."

Either that or Bugliosi made eye contact with the influential and demonic Manson once too often.
