Intellectuals Lie, the Powerless Die
The New York Post ^ | July 09th, 2008 | Ralph Peters

Posted on 07/10/2008 6:35:55 AM PDT by garyhope

THE greatest lie intellectuals tell us is that "the pen is mightier than the sword." That's what cowards claim when they want to preen as heroes. Billions of words have been hurled at Sudan's government. The misery in Darfur not only continues but deepens.

The pen is mightier than the sword only within and among cultures governed by the rule of law.

Unless, of course, the writer is willing to spend years in prison or die, hoping his words are read by someone willing to pick up a gun and, inspired by those words, fight for what is right.

I think it’s fair to say that Franklin,Hamilton, Jefferson, Madison, and Lincoln were pretty intellectual guys who wrote some pretty important things, such as the Constitution, Declaration of Independence,Gettysburg Address, the Federalist Papers. These guys might have seen some point in the pen & sword quote, too.

The pen may be mightier than the sword but I don't recommend bringing one to a knife fight.

Thanks for the ping, gal! Good article.

It's very frustrating that so much evil in the world is left unanswered. Even when it is answered, look at the resistance the answerers encounter. It seems to me that ever since Vietnam, the large majority of those that wield the pen are against answering the evil in the world. They seem more insterested in making a name for themselves by appealing to like minded elitists, than to report the truth of the horrors of the world. As long as it doesn't affect them, they're fine with mass butchery, provided it isn't at the hands of Americans fighting bad people.

The pen can be used for good or evil, as can the sword. I see a lot of evil penman lately, condemning people that use the sword for the better of others. They make me sick.

Did you read the article at the link, or just the excerpt?

“As I pointed out on July 4, even our glorious Declaration of Independence and our Constitution would be no more than bizarre artifacts had they not been defended by patriots willing to fight.”

Most of the men you named were intimately involved in that fight.
