It is my understanding that people who decided to follow the literal bloodline of Joseph Smith, to his son, etc. refused to consider that Heavenly Father might decide to bestow his authority through an Elder in the church. Kind of like Moses being followed by Joshua, instead of Moses's sons. God Chooses whom He chooses. Man may choose whom he wishes, but it doesn't mean God chooses that person. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, the FLDS can follow whom ever they choose. But as for me and my house, we will follow the Lord. After all, it is a free country. I think you make an important point.

It all started as Mormon.

Then, as ‘good’ men came to leadership in the ever growing community, they split off, discarding the doctrines that were against good moral judgment, and called themselves the LDS.

What was left, was the Mormons. Somewhere along the line, that group called itself the FLDS.

Now, both sides want to claim the heritage. Who will win?

How odd they would even have to ‘fight’ over it.
