Anti-Civil Liberties Union

by: Malcolm A. Kline, July 09, 2008

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) has sold many college students on the notion that the group defends the downtrodden against the powerful. In reality, the ACLU bears a closer resemblance to the insulated plutocrats it inveighs against than it does to any underdog that you can think of.

“The ACLU forced a Catholic charity to pay for an employee’s abortion and an Orthodox Jewish charity to provide housing for an avowedly lesbian employee and her lover,” Steve Aden of the Alliance Defense Fund (ADF) said at a seminar on Capitol Hill. The ADF provides legal representation to such religious groups.

“The ADF is winning three-quarters of the cases that it undertakes against the ACLU,” Aden told the crowd at the Washington Court Hotel in a conference organized by the Eagle Forum. Aden estimates that the ACLU, in turn, is involved in 5,000 cases.

As the above examples indicate, what the group specializes in is telling people what they can do with their time and money, advice that most civilized peoples do not regard as congruent with civil liberties. In so doing, the ACLU manages to politicize some of the most historically apolitical institutions in the United States.

What the ACLU never bargained for is that fundamental law of physics: For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Indeed, the Boy Scouts may have spent more time in court on ACLU-inspired lawsuits in the last decade than the youth group spent in litigation in the rest of its history. Attorney Peter Ferrara of the American Civil Rights Union, which has handled every court case involving the Boy Scouts since 2000, outlined some of these legal controversies:...

Just one more reason to want the ACLU to go down. My brother is a Boy Scout and it just makes me even prouder he is one.

“The ACLU forced...”

No, they didn’t. They have no power to do anything of the sort.

Nothing is too low for these sniveling shysters who protect the mass-murdering scum against intrusion into their plans to massacre civilians. All I can do is continue to donate to ADF as the only non-violent means to fight this corruption.

The ACLU is one of the Chief reason that the tort system needs to be reformed... The do abuse the power of the courts by threatening small municipalities with large lawsuits....

They have had a 40 plus year history of trying to manipulate law and the constitution via the courts....
They are not the advocate for the down trodden The are advocates for their way of life, and view of the Majority be damn....

They work under the policy that the government wants to placate the loudest winer just to shut them up and in the mean time we have had our rights eroded away or impinged upon as to not offend a small minority of people that do not want to live with in the norms of the rest of society.

The ACLU doesn't file tort actions. The abuses of plaintiffs' bar tort lawyers are extraordinary in their own right, but the ACLU gets its money by filing lawsuits based upon deprivations of constitutionally protected rights. These lawsuits are funded in part US laws requiring the government to compensate lawyers who make such claims that get some level of success on the merits. In many cases, success on the merits (and therefore payment of your taxdollars to the ACLU) means nothing more than a minor injunctive provision in favor of the ACLU even if the other side wins most of its case.

The ACLU bullies schools when it comes to Christianity, but here’s how the ACLU feels about it’s favorite “religion.”

“Jailed Terror Suspect Helped ACLU Draft Schools’ Anti-Christian Rules”

A federal judge judge has now upheld the constitutionality of an intensive three-week course in California government schools that requires children to choose a Muslim name, wear Islamic garb, memorize verses from the Koraan, pray to Allah, play “jihad games, and simulate worship activities related to the Five Pillars of Islam.”
snip
But hasn’t American Civil Liberties Union lectured us that religious instruction in school violates what it describes as “separation of church and state” (a phrase that appears nowhere in the U.S. Constitution)? Read on. That injunction seems to depend on which religion is involved.

The guidelines in ACLU’s document is in effect a warning (some would say an implied threat) to schools as to how they can avoid legal challenges from the same ACLU on church/state issues in the classroom.

Guess I won’t be voting for him anytime soon.
