Obama: I think that if we don't get a handle on our energy policy, it is possible that the kinds of trends we've seen over the last year will just continue.
Demand is clearly outstripping supply. It's not a problem I think we can drill our way out of. Consumers are obviously painfully having to adapt to rising gas prices, but it can be a drag on our economy for a very long time unless we take steps to innovate and invest in the research and development that's required to find alternative fuels, make our transportation system much more energy-efficient. Retool our industry and our buildings. And the market can accomplish a lot of that through some pretty wrenching retooling, but I think it's very important for the federal government to have a role in that process as well. So that's something that is immediate.

why can al obama say this
but president bush can’t?
Will we find a alternative energy method that allows the "recharge" or refueling and availability to be as ubiquitous as your local gas stations?
Hydrogen depot on every corner with different brands and competitive prices? LNG on every corner? It takes me maybe 5 minutes to refuel my car - will we see batteries that fully charge in 5 minutes? For every alternative discussed, think about the ease of recharging, or refueling, or whatever it takes to keep you moving, and will it be as common as our current gas stations?
Then, think about creating all of these "alternatives" AND the requisite recharging/refueling stations required. Then, compare the time it will take to get the variety of "alternatives" as common as today's gas stations.
The 5-10 year "drill here, drill now" seems far more reasonable after this analysis. A phased increase in gasoline efficiency and technology that reduces pollutants, petroleum is still cost-effective - IF we lift our self-imposed energy embargo.
Alternate fuels are fine, but that’s 10, 20, 30 years away.
We need relief NOW or their ain’t gonna be a “10 years from now.”
So, in Obamaspeak, the energy crisis will be a drag on our economy for a long time, unless private industry innovates, but government action can be immediate?
What is this drivel passing for economic analysis?
DRILL - EVEN IF IT MAKES ME ILL!!
DRILL NOW!!!
Lots of everyday folks are getting rich in North Dakota due to the drilling. And it’s providing jobs and boosting the economy. Contact you congress and let them know how you feel.
I dont care if it takes 10 years or we only save a couple of pennies. The sooner we become more independent, the better.
DRILL NOW!!
If you wants some real potential solutions, Barry, give this a watch and drop the do-nothing, no drilling attitude.

With a 9% approval rating, it's time for all you Bozos--Democrats and Republican alike--to pull that head out of your collective a$$ and open up everything to drilling...NOW.
Oh gee!! All of those alternative energy ideas are going to take at least 10 years to develop anyhow. So lets just drill some more oil wells and wait on the alternative technology to get better developed before we can count on them.

The truly astonishing part is we don’t NEED an alternative as we have 500 years or more of petroleum. This is just bizarre behavior and very few people are thinking rationally. The curreent situation is really frighteneing. When so many people can be totally fooled over something as patently and obviously snake oil as “Global Warming” and “Peak oil” we are ripe for being taken advantage of by a charlatan. I suppose the Obammesiah is coming just in time.
