Arab militia briefly abduct UN peacekeeper in Darfur Jun 18, 2008
KHARTOUM (AFP) Armed Arab militiamen briefly abducted a member of the UN-led peacekeeping mission in Darfur on Wednesday, the latest in a series of attacks in the six months since the ill-equipped force deployed.
"A UNAMID staff member was abducted, stripped of official and personal belongings, and physically assaulted by members of an armed Arab militia," said the joint United Nations-African Union mission in Darfur in a statement.

Well I guess there is a little good in everyone....I guess.
this is what´s happens wenn you send ill equipped troops into a conflict. let´s hope it´s not spreading over to chad too because our Eufor troops are in my oppinion under equipped too for this mission.
The UN uniform, right down to the skivies, must be official belongings. The Arabs must have assaulted a naked man.
“let´s hope it´s not spreading over to chad too”
The various European governments need to start ponying up what they have already pledged to these 2 missions. Dufar and Chad are prestiege missions for you Europeans and you are failing terribly at your self-assumed international obligations. That said, the bad guys are going to take your measure regardless of your equipment level.
the EU has no troops in darfur. only in chad. but you are correct it´s a miracle for me why for example the austian troops only have armored vehicles and troop transporters when our black hawks and light and heavy tanks for example standing around here in good old austria totally useless. i guess this could be said for many countries who are involved in this mission.
“i guess this could be said for many countries who are involved in this mission.”
Well, it is Chad and these first-world European countries (not yours) have centuries of experience in this kind of colonial intervention to draw upon. Maybe they know what they’re doing.
gotcha!
And in a responsive show of force, the UN announced it will leave the Sudan next week.
