I felt the following quote requires some further commentary...
I'm confused as to why any African American would be a Republican in this day and age.
- Robin Wright-Jones, (D) Missouri State Representative
With all due respect to Representative Wright-Jones, I can't understand why more blacks haven't jumped the Democrat ship.
Granted, with decades of vilification, I can understand why people decide to avoid the public ridicule one would be exposed to as a black Republican. While many, including former Washington D.C. mayor Marion Barry, mistakenly believe (for example) President Lincoln was a Democrat, the belief that Democrats are the real friends of blacks are built on many false premises and deliberate revisionist history.

Blacks?.......what about Jews?
Didn’t see that article. But I see what your saying.
That’s a good question.
I did hear a black man call into Hannity a few weeks ago. He said he was a “Republican”. But he was hung up on “rich people” not paying their fair share and was concerned about entitlements and welfare.
I think Republicans have done a poor job in selling the party. Blacks, Jews and Hispanics should be Republicans.
Blacks will feel free to turn GOP when they no longer feel threatened by Republicans.
They may agree with the GOP on vouchers and gay marriage, but racism trumps all else.
Because Kingfish or a white man in black face is running for President of the Mystic Knights of the Sea.. After all Obama is as white as he is black.. and knows the proper handshake and RAP.. Its not popular to say the american black culture is toxic and sucks.. so they don't.. Black women are almost to/at 80% unwed births this year.. Kingfish is the poster boy..
I see it as the opposite.
When someone actively redirects the blame for every hardship in your life to someone else and declares you a blameless victim,
that message will resonate and attract a devoted following.
Those “attacks” that you’re referring to are valid commentaries on cultural issues that are actually to blame for “keeping the black man down”.
I guess the water in the bilge hasn't risen enough or maybe doesn't stink enough to raise alarm.
Exactly....the message that “you are a victim” has worked for sixty years.
Glad to see someone else here who is honest. :-) I was just about to post this:
Let’s face it: The reason there aren’t more black Republicans is all the negative rhetoric about “blacks” in the conservative movement.
Dems have racist policies, we all know that. But they wouldn’t be so successful in vilifying Republicans as bigots if some conservatives didn’t give them so much firepower.
IOW - Maybe all you conservatives should be more politically correct, and perhaps some new laws would help. /s
Blacks find it easier and more lucrative dealing with democrates. Tax payer monies flow freely to community based organizations with no one being held accountable for the programs success or failure. Church organizations are run like small businesses, making profits within their communities on low interest government loans made to them. Entitlement programs that are generational and now a way of life, Programs that have been in existance for years that are still being funded and no one held accountable.
For both jews and blacks it is easier to payoff and deal with liberals than republican conservatives.
Slavery -> Stockholm Syndrome -> can't leave the Liberal Welfare Plantation.
That simple.
telling the truth about a culture of failure is bigotted in these days of political correctness
The same reason they didn’t leave N.O. when the water started to rise.
Great column!
Who would be left?
The Democrats, with their cancerous welfare state, have successfully turned the overwhelming bulk of the urban black population into government addicts. And just as drug addicts need to keep going back to their dealers for a fix, government addicts likewise need to keep going back to THEIR dealers. That would be the Democrat politicians who buy their votes with welfare, food stamps, “programs”, government jobs, and other “free stuff”.
I wouldn’t look for those blacks who are government addicts to jump the Democrat ship, ever.
It’s not that complicated. Democrats simply offer more unconditional freebies at the expense of the non-black population. Blacks who want to get ahead get affirmative action and quotas in college admissions and in business recruitment. Blacks who don’t want to work get cradle-to-grave welfare entitlement programs. Both policies are perennially under attack from Republican administrations.
I have known many a Black family that do not know who the father is of any of the kids and there are numerous ones and are PROUD to the 3-4th generation welfare family. They believe that they are owed something. I call them the GOOFY people, think of his theme song “The world owes me a living”.
American Blacks are a cartoon image and until they themselves see this as it is they will continue to be so. The black family used to be a strong family but now there is no true black family (DAD, Mom & kids).
well, republicans have turned into the most politically correct bunch in the nation, every day here on FR we are treated to an new attack on American Values worse than Hitler.
It’s an issue of respect, the same way the Democrats have problems with evangelicals and rural America. The Dems have a lot of policy positions that match up better with these voters, but they don’t win them over because the Dems don’t show them respect.
This isn’t about political correctness nor telling the truth. It’s about discussing the issues in a civil manner. Some people take their comments too far.
If you don’t care, so be it. But then don’t complain about not getting a bigger share of the black vote.
Millions of middle and upper-middle class black families defy your stereotype, yet people like you continue to send the message that blacks are not welcome in the GOP.
Your prejudice, but our loss.
Didn’t anyone tell you respect is earned and not an entitlement? Talk about the core issue.....
I used to have to tell fairweather fans that there was no room on the bandwagon. I feel the same way here with people wanting to gloss over reality by controlling speech on a whim, so I refuse to capitulate and not be able to call a shovel a shovel, a rock a rock, a dingbat a dingbat, or a spade a spade.
Next thing I know someone will tell me I can’t use the word illegal to describe illegal aliens, but will have to call them undocumented immigrants to be politically correct and get the illegal vote.
OOOOPSSS, already happening:
http://hotair.com/archives/2007/02/28/florida-legislator-wants-to-ban-term-illegal-alien/
In other words if on a black Conservative forum they mouthed country music and elite white liberals or Hollywood whites who think they know it all it wouldn't change the fact that I am pro life, pro gun, for low taxes and a strong defense would it?
Bill Clinton is brutalized on this forum, as he should be. Hippies and Greens tofu eating soy latte drinking liberal, the vast majority being white, are brutalized here too. Why would gang bangers and punks with 3 babies mommas being trashed be racist while bashing the hippies is not.
I will tell you this much, any black person who wants to bash hippies and greens and any other elitist white person can go for it. Hell I will join them.
Because the Democrats promise them money.
J C Watts says there is no outreach.
So how do blacks earn your respect?
I talk about fat welfare mommas and their drunk boyfriends. Where I live they’re all white as snowballs. Looks like you’re the one who has a problem with stereotypes and race.
You don't have to care. But, some people here are wondering why there's such a small share. If you want to know why, some of us are trying to explain why. If no one really cares why, then don't complain about the small share of the black vote. That's all we're saying.
And I'm not talking about using PC terms like "undocumented immigrants." I'm also not talking about pointing out problems among any particular group of people. There's nothing wrong with pointing out social ills.
But, if the discussion isn't carried out in a CIVILIZED manner, that group of people will not feel welcome, and even if they do vote in this direction, they'll be ashamed to admit they did.
For the record, the other day, I was on a thread discussing outreach for the black vote. I started out insisting it would be a waste of time. But then we got into a discussion about true outreach versus pandering.
Then again, look at what little difference really exists between the GOP and the Dems. And then consider the Dems' talking points pandering for the black vote. As socially conservative as some black voters may be on certain issues, they're willing to vote against those conservative views.
I will tell you this much, any black person who wants to bash hippies and greens and any other elitist white person can go for it. Hell I will join them.
But what if they bashed ALL white people, stereotyping us like Rev. Wright & Co. do. And what if they were in control of the party? You might look at another party and justify your vote.
For a short time, I voted LP. The LP platform of limited gov't was attractive. But I didn't want to be associated with some of its members. Though I still agree with the LP on certain issues (pro-free market, etc.), I didn't agree with all of them. So I returned to the GOP.
It seems the same thing is happening with the black vote going to the Dems. I believe we could've attracted a greater share of that vote using the right rhetoric. I think it's too late now, though.
My view is that 90-95% of blacks vote for Dems. Dems are socialist elitists who want to put most of us on welfare, keep us from protecting ourselves and to cower to the UN. They never want us to fight for the interests of the US but they will sacrifice our troops for a global cause.
They want to force a homosexual agenda as well as Marxist agenda on our children through the public school system as well as teach white kids to always be guilty and subservient to those who are not white due to the supposed sins of their white ancestors. This is the Democrat Party.
Now when 90-95 percent of one race votes for that platform, it's kinda hard to maintain an open mind about that peoples agenda. As a matter of fact I think Conservatives are pretty mild since they always seem to be pondering why a generally Conservative people would back such an agenda for the last 50 years.
Now if all whites or maybe 90 percent of whites voted a certain way instead of 55 to 45 it would be a little easier to paint them with a broader brush.
We're all humans and have the same nature, so if blacks are so distrustful of white Conservatives as to vote in such a huge block for the Socialist Party, why wouldn't whites be distrustful of blacks for betraying their own convictions?
Even if the GOP could win a bigger share of the black vote, it wouldn’t be much. But the Dems shouldn’t be receiving close to 100%. That’s outrageously high.
I’ve no doubt the vast majority of black voters prefer big government programs. But, let’s face it, Normy, the GOP has given us big-government spending, too, despite all our objections. The Republican party has been sold to us using rhetoric, too. There’s a lot of talk about limited government, but they rarely follow-through.
Have the GOP followed through with national defense? Illegals have been pouring through the border by the millions. Only recently has the President begun to take action, long overdue.
Just like all that tough talk attracts us as voters, the Dems have their own talk to attract black voters.
Taxes... The GOP may have a better record on taxes, but that issue only attracts voters who pay a lot in taxes.
That leaves us with social issues. Black voters tend to be more conservative on social issues, but we’re just talking about one or two issues, right? In the meantime, here come the Dems, claiming to represent the black community and pointing to all the noise around the GOP.
