Car Thief Finds Bomb-Packed Van in New York City
Saturday , July 05, 2008
A car thief on Thursday night found a bomb-laden van wired to detonate by remote control that likely had been sitting there for more than five months, sources said.
Investigators believe the homemade explosives found on a Brooklyn street in the Ford Econoline belonged to Yung Tang, 39, a Chinese national. He has been behind bars since he was caught Jan. 29 in Wallingford, Conn., with nearly identical bombs in his Mazda MPV minivan.

Amazing~~~
If you can’t find it there,
you can’t find it anywhere,
here’s to you...
New York, New York!
Hard to believe a van could sit there 5 months without being stolen much sooner.
Proof that the crime rate in NY has gone down! :)
No mention in the story of how the car thief notified authorities. I could just imagine....
“Er, ummm.... Yeah, I have this friend who knows a guy who umm...”
Good thing Bush is going to the Olympics. The Chinese being our friends and all.
Yea really. There’s no way for him to go to police directly without incriminating himself in a crime. Even if he abandoned the van and called the cops the FBI would comb over it till they found his fingerprints and possible DNA (most crooks don’t bother covering it up as most police don’t look for it IF they find the vehicle). Hope they go easy on him. Hell, probation for his honesty.
This is posted right by the other FR post indicating the ‘War on Terror’ is over, because the people say it is so. This fight is just beginning, and if the majority of Americans pretend like it is a problem of the past, they are simply helping to write death certificates for countless more Americans. The Islamists have many more battles planned.
I’ve never tried that eviction technique.
Just where did this guy find a place he could park for 5 months???

I think the funniest AND best part is that the thief won’t face charges. Of course, I bet they keep a very close eye on him from now on, too! ;)

he he
Maybe he was trying to attract people to the van, instead?
OR, he was an honest citizen who expected thieves to grab the van and then blow them up...only his travel itinery got interrupted... ?
:)
Turn all the car thief in NYC loose and they might find more! ...
It would be cheaper then trained dogs, and more thorough.
Hard to believe it wasn’t towed with a dozen parking tickets for failure to move to the other side of the street during weekly street sweepings.
“It would be cheaper then trained dogs, and more thorough.”
I’d say we should give them $100 per car. $200 if it’s a UN vehicle. ;)
