Sarkozy not welcome at Olympics, say China media

BEIJING (Reuters) - China made a barely veiled swipe at French President Nicolas Sarkozy on Thursday and state media warned he can expect a cold public shoulder if he attends the Beijing Olympics after he threatened not to go over Tibet.
Sarkozy has said he will decide next week whether to attend the opening of the Games in August, with his choice depending on how talks go between Beijing and the Dalai Lama's envoys.
China often lashes out at foreign leaders for meeting the exiled Dalai Lama or criticizing its policies in Tibet, which it calls an internal affair.

Ping!
In other news, Capitalists, Jews, Christians, Europeans, and Pro Westerners are also not welcomed.
The Olympics should never have been there in the first place.
"state media" => <<<shudder>>>>
Does China have a basketball team, lol?
Won’t it be something if Sarkozy decides to visit the Dalai Lama instead and NOT go to Beijing at all? Or even pulls the French team out totally from the Games?
I think this Olympics will give China a full plate of worries, with or without Msr. President Sarkozy.
I thought that President George W. Bush was welcome to attend.
Correct me if I'm wrong.
Just saw this one. I’m reading through the original online now.
I wonder how this will affect Chinese/French French/Chinese weapon technology transfer deals?
Sure he has given the ChiComs billions in free trade, while we get poisoned dog food and lead filled toys.
On top of all the other thought crimes Sarkozy has committed against the People’s Paradise of China, I’ve heard he likes spumoni ice cream - OH, THE HORROR!!! Off with his head!!!!! Or, at least, take his liver and kidneys, heart, lungs, etc. and sell them.
Sarko shouldn’t go
The Tibetans in exile are having their own games in India. Sarkozy could go there instead.
Beijing Olympics=Another good reason not to watch NBC or any of its sister channels.
Well I assume using the same logic, we could decide that China’s leader (not mention about a dozen others) is not welcomed at the U.N. since we are talking about “host nations” of a world sanctioned events.
Is any cable network carrying any of the Tibet alternative games from India? I would love to see some TV competition against NBC and would personally make a point to watch the Tibet alternative games.
Advertisers might be amazed at how many people would watch some of the alternative games given heart and soul convictions.
Not to mention, I am ready for a few new events (perhaps even the monk-chanting granite block levitating competition).
If the Chinamen dont like him, hes ok by me.
Sarko is the new Bush.
Am I the only one hopping that pollution is so bad in Beijing that the marathon takes 6 hours to complete?
Not to mention, I am ready for a few new events (perhaps even the monk-chanting granite block levitating competition).
LOL I have a feeling it will be more like a Scots-Irish sporting competition. I have heard that archery would be one event. The Khampas are known as fierce warriors, excellent horsemen and yak herders by trade so it could be like a rodeo if they draw from that.
Since the Nepalese Gurkhas are regional neighbors and in many cases probably blood and spiritual cousins they could have a trench clearing competition. Set up a bunch of straw dummies (like the Samurais used to train with) in a trench and a Gurkha warrior with a kukri runs from one end to the other trying to lop the heads off of as many "Chinese soldiers" as he can. They can judge by time, number of heads lopped and style. ;^)
I am working on a project in Taiwan and part of the project number contains three 8s. I have been told that this is a lucky number in Chinese culture. I guess that’s why the Olympics begin on August 8th, 2008, or 8-8-8, right?
Thanks Perdogg!
