PARIS (AFP) The head of the UN's Nobel-winning panel of climate scientists on Friday said only seven years remained for stabilising emissions of global-warming gases at a level widely considered safe.
Rajendra Pachauri, chairman of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), delivered the bleak warning at a gathering of European Union ministers where he pleaded with the EU to take the lead in global talks on tackling climate change.
The UN negotiations "must progress rapidly, otherwise I am afraid that not only future generations but even this generation will treat us as having been irresponsible," said Pachauri.
"The EU has to lead. If the EU does not lead, I am afraid that any attempt to bring about change and to manage the problem of climate change will collapse," said Pachauri.
"Today there is a high level of expectation. If the EU does not lead, you will not be able to bring the US on board, North America, on board. You will not be able to bring on board other countries in the world as well."
Pachauri said the IPCC's Fourth Assessment Report -- which helped earn the panel the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize alongside US climate campaigner Al Gore -- had dispelled any doubts about human impact on the climate system.
He issued a stark warning that time was running out for dealing with the threat.
In the 20th century, the temperature had already risen on average by 0.74 degrees Celsius (1.32 degrees Fahrenheit), he said.
The EU wants to limit the overall warming since pre-industrial times to 2 C (3.6 F), a goal that is shared by many scientists.

How 'bout you guys work on the world's greatest polluter China first. Once they agree to unilaterally shackle their economy over feel-good pseudo-science we'll talk. Get back to us when they've signed on, OK?

Let me tell you exactly what this is about: The Socialism that the media and Democrats (but I repeat myself) have not been able to pass as law will come down as emergency mandates if this garbage is swallowed.
The don’t want to have a scientific debate, they know they’d lose. This entire campaign is loaded with emotion, fear, trepidation, and anxiety.
If you buy the fear you buy the program.

This guy is an economist and government bureaucrat, as are many of the IPCC scammers. They seem to see themselves as experts at spotting trends, which is probably why economists have succeeded in predicting nine of the last two recessions, and three natural catastrophes which all will be sure to happen, maybe the day after tomorrow, or at least in the next seven years.
What bullsh*t.

Only seven years left for global warming target I'm taking great pleasure that more and more people are coming to the realization that this is a complete scam. And the more people realize it, the more hysterical the warnings from the scammers.
It's actually becoming fun to watch!

If this is a Nobel-winning panel from the UN, I wouldn't get too excited about it. It's the global equivalent of Logrolling. ("Logrolling" is what Spy Magazine used to call authors reviewing each other's books in order to guarantee each other a favorable review).
Basically at this level the organizations exist, among other reasons, to allow the elites to supply each other with credentials, to confer the title of "expert" on each other.

Maybe this prick should get Algore to reduce his massive carbon footprint before telling me what to do. Even after trying to green his mansion Algore (after being exposed as a complete fraud and hypocrite) somehow managed to increase his humongous energy bill. What the hell is he doing in his mansion that can possibly use that much energy?

It wasn't even 5 years ago when algore predicted that global warming would heat us up as much as 1-degree in the next 100 years.
Of course, now that they see that their ponzi scheme to sell carbon credits is falling apart, they've accelerated the cycle. Reminds me of a soap opera part where a woman is pregnant for 2 months, has the baby, and two months after that the baby is 19 years old. Time compression.
I can't believe that there are actually Americans stupid enough to believe in all this crap.
These global warming freaks are in the throes of their wildest orgasims regarding their computer-model generated world catastrophe...and people like John McCain are even buying into it.
Well, whether it's 7 years or 7 centruries, there isn't much man can do to prevent it...no more than man can cause it.
I just saw a book while waiting in line at the grocery store that was entitled "The Idiots Guide to Global Warming"...propaganda in the supermarket line...never thought I'd see that in America.
It could be political sleight of hand...keep their minds on a (phony) crisis, while we elect a muslim to the presidency and socialize America.

Only seven years left for global warming target: UN panel chiefIn 1988, Ted Danson said the oceans would be upon us in twelve years if we didn't do anything. The UN knows something different?
I'm gonna drive my car. I'm gonna warm my house. In seven years I'll still be vacationing on the very same beaches that I visit now.
