Americans are worried. Americans are angry. Soaring gas prices are seriously crippling our economy and hitting us where it hurts the most -- in our pockets.
We have a right to be angry, but anger is no longer enough. Its time for rage -- good, old American rage aimed at those elitist Democrats who prefer to see the folks beggared by soaring fuel prices rather than take the action this very real economic crisis demands.
Drill.
We know that the law of supply and demand is whats causing gas prices to soar, but merely knowing the ultimate cause of the crisis is not enough. We need to know why the most obvious remedy -- one that promises to increase supply -- is being studiously avoided by the powers that be, Democrats in Congress.
Once Americans become aware of that reason, get out of the way because they will be at the gates of Capitol Hill armed with pitchforks and scythes like enraged villagers marching on Draculas castle, determined do wreak vengeance on the very people who refuse to act in the way current circumstances clearly demand.
The steady increase in gas prices can be stopped dead in its tracks, and rolled back to less onerous levels literally overnight. The Democrats in Congress have in their hands the magic wand they could easily wave, but they arrogantly refuse to use it. And so we continue to pay the price for their refusal to help their fellow Americans when they have the power to do so.
All they need to do is lift all moratoria and restrictions on domestic, offshore and Alaskan drilling for oil. Thats all. A quick wave of that magic wand is all thats needed. But they will not act, and for that they must be made aware that they will pay a steep price at the polls for their refusal to act when action is desperately needed.
Make no mistake about it, the oh-so-liberal Democrats in the House and Senate, in the pockets of the super-rich environmentalists who scarcely conceal their contempt for their fellow humans and wont be happy until every automobile is driven from Americas roads and highways, simply will not come to our aid.
As Marie-Antoinette is said to have remarked about her starving subjects who were demanding bread, Let then eat cake, our elected Democratic members of Congress are in effect saying of Americans, Let them ride bikes.
In their contemptuous sophistry their spokesmen sneer that opening the gates to domestic and offshore drilling would not yield results for 10 years. That excuse for inaction is insultingly deceptive. While it will take years to see our domestic supply of petroleum begin to take up the slack, the very declaration that the floodgates will be opened and America is on he way to independence from foreign oil will strike fear into the hearts of OPEC and the speculators who have driven the price of oil skyward.
Their reaction would be instantaneous -- they would increase production to the fullest extent possible, motivated by the knowledge that their stranglehold on supply faces its eventual demise, and gas prices at the pump would fall.
As economist Lawrence Kudlow wrote in his column, An America First Energy Plan, As soon as you say, End the drilling moratoriums, it is precisely those traders who will start selling oil contracts -- long before the first offshore oil barrels are delivered to market. If they see presidential leadership on oil and shale drilling, they will rapidly turn a bull market into a bear market.
A partial answer to our immediate problem is at hand. The steady increase in pump prices can be halted and prices somewhat rolled back to a more acceptable level. Yet those Democrats who the people elected to Congress are turning their backs on the voters who sent them to Washington and coldly refusing to lift a finger to help the American people, preferring instead to lay the blame for the problem on big oil, speculators and every place but where it belongs. On themselves.
If that doesnt enrage you, nothing will.
Payback time comes in November. Drive them out of office and elect people who will do what needs to be done. Drill, Drill, Drill!
Are you listening, John McCain?
He has proposed offshore drilling.
Democrats will not agree with off shore drilling. They say that there are already 68 million acres approved for drilling.....but oil companies say there is no oil. Democrats don’t want to see gas prices come down because they want the tax money it brings in. California taxes by percentage, not the gallon.
“He has proposed offshore drilling.”
That he has...as well as being against drilling in ANWR.
Of course, the folks in AK want to drill while the folks in the coastal states like FL & CA have been against drilling offshore. So McCain proposes drilling where up until now folks didn’t want drilling while he’s against drilling where folks want to drill.
DRILL HERE! DRILL NOW!
So, we should all be filled with rage at paying four bucks plus for gas.
Where are the calls for rage because they’re still brutally killing thousands of babies every day in the abortuaries?
Where are the voices of outrage at the continuing invasion from the south?
Where is the outright anger at how elites such as Obama and McCain are gutting our Constitution?
Where is the dismay at the fact that our children’s future prosperity is being mortgaged for the sole purpose of building up the political fortunes of a bunch of craven liberal politicians?
Etc.
Take care of the moral issues and the pocketbook issues will follow. Follow only the interests of the pocketbook, to the exclusion of our moral foundations, and you’ll watch prosperity drain away like water escaping from a broken dike.
What a listless campaign McCain is running—
It is time for a real Revolution. If you like $5/gal, Thank Congress in Nov.
Pray for W and Our Troops
Where is the dismay at the fact that our childrens future prosperity is being mortgaged for the sole purpose of building up the political fortunes of a bunch of craven liberal politicians?
::::::::
Washington needs to be cleaned out. The Congress is now the most corruptable body of “people” in this nation. It is all about power, and the country is dying RAPIDLY. When you vote, VOTE ANTI-INCUMBENT. Get rid of them.
What a listless campaign McCain is running
::::::
That is an UNDERSTATEMENT. I wonder whose side McCain is on? Other than McCain’s, of course. The Obamanation is setting the agenda, has McCain on the defensive, and continues to LIE DAILY all supported by the complicit, lapdog leftist MSM.
Where is the fight? Where is the exposure of Obama? Where is a Republican candidate for President? I don’t see one....
Makes sense to me.
There might be a couple of them that worth saving. But not very darned many.
McCain is one confused puppy.
A point lost on many conservatives....especially the young and moderate ones.
and yes I know there are some young culture warriors out there....somewhere.
John McCain has already got what he wanted, he got what he needed, which was to be top dog in the Republican Party, the party that had abused him in 2000 and cast him aside. They all bow to him now, and he doesnt need anything else. He doesnt need the presidency. He got what he wanted. So now he can coast [emphasis added].The full article is available here.
I want to see a full time ad on this very idea of energy independence. Drill, nuclear energy, get coal, coal shale, and do it domestically. Now. That would put the issue in the forefront as well as SCOTUS appointees, winning the war against the murderous Islamofascism, and lowering taxes.
I wish that voting would handle the problem, but I truly do not believe we can “vote our way” out of the mess. Tactical nukes on the headquarters of BOTH major political parties are probably our only earthly hope.
+1
The problem is that it is easy to pander on economic issues, but it takes courage to confront the moral issues.
What we lack as a nation are principled leaders who are willing to speak and act with courage.
Moral cowardice is now the rule of the day in America.
Yeah...when the Democrats take the WH and increase their majorities in Congress.
Because, after all, "everybody knows" (just check MSNBC) that the high gas prices are the Republicans' fault.
Michael is a voice crying in the wilderness.
OBAMA IS THE NAIL IN OUR COFFIN!
If that’s true, it’s McCain holding the hammer.
“when the Democrats take the WH”
Shall I put you on my list of steak dinner wagers. BIG SMILE
Once Americans become aware of that reason, get out of the way because they will be at the gates of Capitol Hill armed with pitchforks and scythes like enraged villagers marching on Draculas castle, determined do wreak vengeance on the very people who refuse to act in the way current circumstances clearly demand.
Michael Reagan has much more faith in the American public than I do.
I wish what he predicts would come true but............
Well said.
I’m not convinced that we can ‘vote’ our way out of this crisis.
Makes sense to me! It seems that every time a camel farts the wrong way in Saudi Arabia the price of gasoline increases by a nickel. We can employ the same psychological warfare to sway the price the other way. Thats what speculation is all about, isnt it?
But our politicians would never consider doing whats in the best interests of the country. God Damn them for damning us!
Thats because some of them and their wealthy special interest buddies are making a fortune...The very last thing they want is for someone to come along and kill their golden goose.
Yes, we should be enraged by $4 a gallon gasoline or $3 a gallon gasoline or even lesser inflated prices.
The "invasion" from the south is replacing 50 million slaughtered American babies, some of whom would now be in their mid-thirties. The abortion mills cannot simultaneously slaughter the kids AND create replacement workers. Nor do they want to create replacement workers. Margaret Sanger and Lothrop Stoddard were verrrrry clear on this nearly a century ago in promoting the reduction of the numbers in the human race to an affluent remnant of Nordics and a handful of ethnic servants to wait on them in a depopulated world. See Stoddard's The Rising Tide of Color ca. 1918.
Thank God for sending His children north. There is absolutely nothing that can be done in any event to reverse the immigration, regardless of the fantasies and daydreams of those who postpone resolutions while the "invasion" continues apace. You keep on fighting reality and reality continues to win.
In order to restore morality to our politics on genuine issues like abortion and marriage and lavender hoopla threatening public policy, we are going to need allies who care about other issues more than they care for moral issues. I gave at the office by representing 1100 arrested pro-lifers without fee but I did not delude myself that it was a majoritarian enterprise. Some pro-aborts were concerned about police brutality against Rescuers. Their voices on the brutality were welcomed. Some cops expressed their opposition to the brutality. Good for them.
In today's climate, some pro-aborts and other moral derelicts will object to the extortionate gasoline prices (engineered by the Demonrat pro-abort majority in Congress and the Senate) they are paying and care even more about those prices than they do about their love for immorality. When pro-aborts are defeated, I will not look that gift horse in the mouth. Screaming gets us nowhere. Principled persuasion AND coalition-building on a non-stop basis is hard but worthwhile and effective and necessary work.
More of that basic organizational work is in order and less of the temper tantrum designer banshee form of the "politics" of non-negotiable demands would also help. Sodom and Gomorrah weren't built in a day. Nor destroyed in a day by mere human effort. If God wants to intervene, He can always do so and will do so if He desires. If it is up to human effort, we have to do it the old-fashioned way, inch by inch and yard by yard. Whether that cheers us or not.
Then, with the nation saved, however temporarily, from its Demonrat enemies, we can concentrate on nibbling away at the edges of the pro-aborts and in recruiting the young as the elder Sangerites die off like Betty Friedan and others.
God helps those who help themselves. Our children have no birthright to prosperity based upon geography or on the document worship of those with eccentric views of the document. We cannot wish away constitutional violations. People who are realistic realize that progress in a constitutionalist direction, if any, will be incremental and not the instant result of temper tantrums and shouting matches.
If you equate McCain with Obama, what color is the sky in your universe? With Obama you get Lani Guarnier clones on SCOTUS and Fed Appeals Courts and Fed Trial Courts. With Obama, you get craven cowardly submission to our nation's enemies. With Obama, you get a POTUS once employed by ACORN as a community organizer in Chicago which means violating the constitution and organizing vote fraud as the basic job mission. With Obama you get Bill Ayres and Bernardine (the SDS Queen) Doehrn and Michael Klonsky and Tom Hayden and others who scare and alarm even Slick and Crusty the Pantsuit.
Also, maybe, just maybe, the noble concept of a fixed written constitution being a guarantee of restraining government has proven to be a false god and a failure in numerous important ways whatever its advocates like to imagine while wishin' and hopin'. To the woman who inquired as to what form of government the con con was delivering, Franklin (or someone) said: A republic, madame, if you can keep it. The imperfectibility and fallen nature of man has long since proven more powerful in all too many respects than the words of the document. We can restore some things but the Tenth Amendment restraints on the scope of the fedgov is not likely to be among them, nor the "right" of the moneybags set to purchase our politics under the ruse of "free speech" as though unlimited spending to drown out others were the essence or even related to "free speech."
Like it or not, it is McCain or Obama. No one need pose as a cognizable lover of the constitution who would subject that constitution to Obama, Ayres, Doehrn, Hayden, Klonsky and the other lunatic revolutionaries of SDS by act or by omission.
It does us no good to insist that the only victory we will accept is a victory solely based on our favored issues. If babies will be saved because of such ignoble issues as gas prices, so be it. BTW, I am also very outraged at the gasoline prices and so should you be.
Fine. Focus solely on money. See where it gets you.
or, Jim Eason's DRIP: Don't Return Incumbent Politicians.
If ever you've had a hankerin' to run for Congress, now's the time!
By November citizens will be chasing Congress critters through the streets like that group of oldsters in Chicago chased Dan Rostenkowski back to his government limo and scared Congress so much that they repealed the offending law.
Just because you are off in lalaland doesn't mean I want to be ruled by the SDS leaders and murderers of 40 years ago. Grow up.
I'm about to believe that they all are fixed.
It only seems that way because he's campainging in Columbia and Mexico!
WHat to do?.. what to do?.. Revolute?..
Wouldn’t it be easier to just repeal this “Law of Supply and Demand”?
Better yet, define the gallon as three pints. Then, after a couple of weeks, change it back! That way, everybody who had bought gas in that period would get a free pint for every gallon!
There’s no much Congress could be doing about this. Why don’t they act?
Oops...
I meant three quarts.
Come to think of it—make it four pints. Then, after a couple of weeks, change it back to four quarts! We would be able to double the nation’s supply of gas without spending billions on drilling!
You're kidding - right, Michael?
McLame is too busy telling everyone how "trustworthy" Obama is and insisting he's going to run a "clean" campaign then pointing his manicured Senatorial fingers at the lyin' corrupt b@st@rds who are causing our problems and trying to destroy our country.
Instead, he's more apt to insist, "I will work with our good friends across the aisle to get this difficult problem solved in a bipartisan and environmentally acceptable way!"
I'm awaiting the screaming headline on DRUDGE. It expect it will show up at any moment.
Great pie chart to show exactly who owns “Big Oil”, Joe Kennedy’s bloviating notwithstanding.
The one underlying foundation stone of the American experiment is capsulized in the words of Thomas Jefferson:
"The God who gave us life, gave us liberty at the same time: the hand of force may destroy, but cannot disjoin them."
All of the "Blessings of Liberty" are secure only as long as our nation's laws are based on that simple truth. According to the Founders, life and liberty are Creator-endowed and, therefore, inalienable (cannot be disjoined). That foundation stone of our liberty has been eroded by an arrogant human idea which ignores the Creator's role and places at risk all the other liberties, rights, and "blessings." No one class of individuals possesses a right to "choose" to deny what the Creator has endowed.
The future of America rests on the role the Supreme Court will play in restoring the Founders' understanding of life and liberty.
The Rats can play that game only so long. Once they control the White House and Congress, it'll be much harder for them to avoid culpability.
A truly beautiful post.
Amen.
That's a mighty thin reed to rely on to support the survival of the greatest republic in the history of mankind.
Not one of the current "Justices" will even acknowledge the Fourteenth Amendment-protected personhood of the unborn.
We must also have a Chief Executive who is willing to exercise his sworn duty and stand in opposition to the Court when they trample on the Constitution and ignore their sworn duty to secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves AND OUR POSTERITY.
And a Congress that will bring them in check as well.
Vote out any incumbent that opposes drilling this election.
Vote out any incumbent that opposes drilling this election.
Thats the only thing that scares tehem.
I heard Rush say, yesterday, that even as the Senate protests, the Feds and the States are raking in tax money from the high price of gasoline, and they are not going to do a THING to stop that.
I say we should make them all pay for their own gas, starting Monday. Then we should start working our booties off to get them OUT of government.
http://www.api.org/statistics/fueltaxes/upload/2008_159_GAS_MAP_JULY2008.pdf
But if you think the taxes are high here, just look at England where the price of diesel is equal to $10 a gallon!
The clowns in congress are gonna be in for a rude awakening come 11/4. And Obama will head the list. Those who don't back more drilling will be replaced! If not this time, when they come up for reelection.
To hell with the polar bears & caribou.
Polar bears & caribou don't pay the bills ‘round here!
BTTT
I can’t speak for CA. “
I can and it’s not just the idiot carpetbaggers.
