BERLIN - A GERMAN court sentenced a pair of middle-aged men to more than 12 years in prison on Wednesday for sexually abusing and torturing two young women they held captive for several weeks - part of the time in a dog kennel.
The ordeal ended when a third woman taken hostage by the two German men managed to escape her captors and alert police, the court in the northern town of Verden said.
In addition to jail sentences, the court ordered the accused, identified as Stephan K., 42, and Bernd K., 55, to pay damages of 150,000 euros (S$323,842) to each of the two women, while the third woman was awarded 5,000 euros.
The abuse of the women, who were aged between 18 and 23 at the time, began when the eldest was captured in August 2006 after she followed up a fake job advert posted by the men. Four weeks later, the men abducted the second woman the same way.
During their captivity at a two-storey house in Garlstedt near Bremen, the two women were repeatedly raped, a spokesman for the court said.
They were also locked in a kennel, made to crawl around on all fours on a leash, eat from a dog bowl and subjected to blasts of deafening music, she added.
The men, who filmed some of the abuse, also forced one of the women to prostitute herself, or face violent reprisals.
'The court concluded that the men who came for sex were unaware of the circumstances,' the spokesman said.
In mid-October, the men bound and gagged their third victim, but she escaped handcuffed and naked through an upstairs window, and alerted police with the help of a passing jogger.
Afterwards, the two men fled, each taking one of the remaining women by force. Within four days, Bernd K. had turned himself in, the court said. Police captured the younger man with the last captive woman just over a month later.
The older man received a 12-1/2 year sentence, while Stephan K. was handed a 14-year term, to be followed by a potentially indefinite period of preventive detention, the spokesman said.
The latter sentence reflected the fact the man had marked sociopathic and sadistic tendencies, she added.
'The court said they were deeply ingrained and would probably be apparent when he was 70,' she said.
The 14-month trial of the men, which received considerable attention in local German media, was partly closed to the public due to the disturbing nature of the evidence.
“The latter sentence reflected the fact the man had marked sociopathic and sadistic tendencies,”
Really? Huh...I didn’t make the connection...
Can you imagine the harm done to these young women? The death penalty IS justified in extreme cases of rape. Those men knew EXACTLY what they were doing. True, they are going to spend some time in prison, but someone who would do something like this even once should never, ever be trusted in free society again. Unfortunately Germany, like the US, is moving away from such barbaric punishments as our enlightened leaders always seem to sympathize more with criminals than victims! Totally pathetic!
It’s amazing what they will throw you in jail for these days....
If I buy the materials can he make one for me?
/Bad Joke
Crime would go down overnight if they brought back flogging in the town square or the firing squad on the back forty.
The “latter” sentence refers to the possible “indefinte detention” they may serve after the main sentence is finished. They slapped that on due to their “marked sociopathic and sadistic tendencies.
That’s the last time I make a stupid remark before reading the article. Damn!
Is it me or does that seem like a lite sentence for such a crime? Will they serve all of that or do they have parole over there?
12 years eh, they coulda lit a cigarette and got more time in prison.
12 years after what they did, its amazing.
“The 14-month trial”
Pardon the french, but WTF?
That sentence is way too short.
You can buy one online, they even come with their own air pump.
“The death penalty IS justified in extreme cases of rape.”
I agree it is justified however my thinking is that on the off chance that the death penalty would be some sort of detterant against the perpetrator from killing his victim that perhaps it should just be life in prison. 12 years though...way too lenient.
I don’t think anything can be in worse taste then the reality of this case. What they did and the “punishment” they received. Truly sad
Stoning as a punishment was given a bad rap.
I would say so.
Free Descendant: “I agree it is justified however my thinking is that on the off chance that the death penalty would be some sort of detterant against the perpetrator from killing his victim that perhaps it should just be life in prison.”
If someone isn’t deterred by the death penalty, why would they be more deterred by the possibility of life in prison? Those guys undoubtedly knew what they were doing. They also had to know they were risking long sentences. That didn’t stop them.
I say kill them (humanely) and end it here. If some people are more or less deterred by the result of this particular case, who cares? You and I could argue back and forth for years over the possible deterrent or lack thereof, but I doubt either of us could present a conclusive case for or against it.
When you see something wrong, fix it. That’s sound advice for most situations. If you’re walking through your neighborhood, do you pick up a piece of trash (because it’s the right thing to do) or do you leave it lying there because you worry about whether or not your neighbors will be more inclined to leave trash? I say you bring your whole neighborhood down if you leave the trash.
The latter sentence reflected the fact the man had marked sociopathic and sadistic tendencies,....

Gee, ya’ think? And the other animal doesn’t?!
I hope their prison mates give them the same treatment as they gave these women.
Crime would go down overnight if they brought back flogging in the town square or the firing squad on the back forty.

I have been advocating for years for vandals to be placed in a cage in a shopping mall for x number of days. The arrangement would be such that no one could physically harm them, but that they would have to listen to what passersby said to them. I;ll be the incidents would decline considerably.
The latter sentence refers to the possible indefinte detention they may serve...

The way I read it, the latter sentence refers to the 14 years the younger man is getting. The other low-life is finished in 12 1/2 years.
Hopefully to be served in a dog kennel.
The problem is......they don't listen. They know what they're doing is wrong.....they've been told.... but don't care. Maybe public humiliation with a whuppin' (they never got before) would put enough hurt on them to make an impression.
I have a grandson (toddler) whose favorite game is to tear everything out of a cabinet as fast as he can before his Mom stops him. He'll do it over an over.....even tho she scolds him each time and removes him from the area. (that makes me crazy)
When they came to my house last week...he got into my buffet and started tearing out the good china and throwing it. I got up... and without saying a word...smacked his hand and put his rear in the corner. He cried, threw a tantrum.....BUT.... never went near the buffet again. Saved us all alot of frustration and energy. :0)
Sharia law loves this.... but would use it against the victims instead of the perps.
Oh, I agree about the vandals. Their parents have never taken the time to instruct the little jerks on how they are to behave, a common fault in today’s parents. It is just astounding to see the way kids are allowed to do whatever keeps them from whining — no responsibilities, no chores. Do they think they are helping their kids by treating them like pampered pets? These kids have a very low sense of worth, as they are not made to feel that they are contributing to the family in any way.
Careful with that hand slapping, as you can damage little nerves if you do it too hard. I favor a swat on the behind and a loud “No!”.
What I meant is that if the rape does not carry the death penalty but murder does then perhaps it might lead the person to spare their victim. I could be wrong. I definately agree that they deserve death for that sort of thing.
So imagine someone kidnaps a kid and molests them. If that offense is already a death penalty offence the perpetrator might feel there is no reason to spare the victims life. That’s my only concern about the death penalty for crimes less then murder.
