Bush urges Americans to get Congress to allow drilling
The Hill ^ | 7-2-08 | Klaus Marre

Americans should contact Congress and tell their elected representatives to open up a part of the Alaskan wilderness and the area off the country’s coast to oil exploration, President Bush said Wednesday.

“I fully understand why Americans are concerned about gasoline prices,” Bush told reporters. “But I want them to understand fully that we have got the opportunity to find more crude oil here at home in environmentally friendly ways and they ought to write their Congress people about it.”

The president said Americans should tell Congress to open up the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) and the Outer Continental Shelf, as well as push for an increase in oil shale exploration.

Bush argued that the Democratic Congress has “refused to budge” on these issues.

“It makes no sense for — to watch these gasoline prices rise when we know we can help affect the supply of crude oil which should affect the supply of gasoline prices,” Bush stated.

Both Sens. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) and John McCain (R-Ariz.), the presumptive presidential nominees, oppose drilling in ANWR. However, McCain recently shifted his stance on offshore drilling in the face of average gasoline prices of $4 per gallon. The Arizona senator now argues that it should be up to the states whether to allow oil exploration of their coasts.

Bush argued that “ultimately, of course, we’re going to transition away from hydrocarbons. But we’re now just in a transitional period, and we need more oil to be able to do so.”

Well, at least he’s now begging the right country to increase production.

Now, about that executive order...

IF you didn’t have a left wing democrat media, this Congress would be portrayed as a radical enemy of the American people. Very sad.

Well, at least he’s now begging the right country to increase production.

You got that right. Can you imagine sitting on one of the world's largest reserves, refusing to drill there, and asking other countries to increase production to help us out. That would be like a fat kid cutting in line in front of Oliver Twist to get another bowl of gruel.

What a travesty of leadership that WE the People 'literally' have to yell and scream at those morons in DC who fail to lead and turn their backs on the troubles of the Americans they pledged to serve.

Pox, Pox and more Pox on those lame-brain hucksters in the halls of Capitol Hill. Shame on them for their dereliction of duty.

“Bush urges Americans to get Congress to allow drilling”

The house is occupied by a majority of crickets. The minority have no spines.

My hope is that this issue comes back to haunt the RATS. BIGTIME!

But guaranteed it will become a major campaign issue.

NOW is the time to drill these areas, while it is only urgent.

If we wait till it is an emergency, it will be "damn the environment, full speed ahead".

At least now we can use all the latest environmentally acceptable methods. If we wait...who knows?

The Rats and RINOs in congress don't care because they actually want Americans to pay these high prices.

Pelosi has just said again, “we can't drill our way out of the crisis” indicating she will never allow it to get to the House Floor for even a vote unless she knows the vote will be defeated.

She promised to lower the gas prices if the Rats got the majority and they did so since prices aren't lower Americans need to throw the lying bums out of office.

Alaska wants drilling in ANWR, but the central government has the strangle hold on those reserves.

The 535 idiots in Congress have to experience having their feet held to the fire by the voters.

Keep it up, Democrats, and the Republicans may (hopefully) seize control of both houses even though collectively they could screw up a steel ball with a rubber mallet.

Now that Obama has asked Gore to join him....Obama is totally scr****.

I also believe that McCain will back off of ANWAR...a look to the future....BECAUSE we will ALWAYS need oil and gas. That's how we're set up. It's how we heat, how we drive, how we run our factories.

The Daily Fact Sheet:

Today House Democrats seem willing to leave town without taking any meaningful action to help families and small businesses struggling with skyrocketing gas prices.

Democratic leaders have scheduled votes on three no-energy measures that do nothing to increase American energy production, reduce gas prices, or secure our energy future. Simply put, this is an insult to the American people who want more American energy, as poll after poll continues to demonstrate.

Republicans have made it clear that Congress should not leave town without voting on meaningful solutions to increase American energy production and help lower gas prices.

It’s time for Democratic leaders to end their sham votes on “no energy” bills and agree to work with Republicans to help bring the American people the lower gas prices they deserve.

Real Energy Solutions

The Radical Socialist/Democrats/RINO’s in Congress actually believe their election to those positions in Government are for the purpose to be the POWER over the People. Let’s recall the Gala for the Pelosi inauguration for instance, her fist in the air and her hysteria about “POWER”.

President Bush’s call to the People whom are the rightful overseer’s of their Government, the true POWER of this Nation is belated for certain, but essential to end the current Leftist Mutiny. WE need to get out of our Lazy Boys and mix-it-up with these misguided Representatives.

They need to be put in their places, or Removed from our crew, or we will never see the end of this voyage towards the rocks until we hit them and sink.

I think the Dems with their control over the MSM believe strongly they will successfully blame all the problems on Republicans as part of their strategy to regain the entire of Government “POWER”. We cannot let them succeed.

I have beat on my congress critters as much as I can. It's obvious that they don't understand what is happening out here in people country. Since most of them can't spell Depression they don't understand what causes it. When GM says it is about to go on the rocks the situation is bad. Investors have started to unload their stocks and bonds. Congress still don't get it.

Bush should declare a war time national emergency and order the drilling now!! If he doesn’t we’re in for a severe recession or depression thanks to the anti-American Marxist RATS in Congress.

Hey, George, how about YOU do the following:

Make a speech on national TV and spell out the facts about energy, and what a pipedream alternative fuels are in the short- and medium-term. Tell the masses that we can’t live without oil, like it or not.

Then tell them what our laws do: limit drilling, refining capacity, coal and nuclear.

Then let everyone know what we spend - in blood and treasure - to defend the only oil fields large enough to supply us and our biggest trading partners. Let them know that we’re in Iraq because of our absurd domestic environmental laws, and that hundreds of billions of dollars are flowing to nations hostile to us. Let them know that the Cubans have hired the Chinese to drill for oil that OUR oil companies should long ago have tapped, but that Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi and their fellow travelers won’t even allow bills to change our laws to get to a vote.

Then give an ultimatum: Tell everyone that unless Congress passes an acceptable energy bill that opens up ANWR, the continental shelf and the 2 huge shale oil fields in the Rockies and in the upper midwest, that you’ll issue Executive Orders to the same effect.

You may or may not get the Congress to move - but at least the people will know the truth, and also know who’s standing in the way of our nation’s economic health and national security.

THAT would be leadership, George. Let’s see if you can exhibit a bit more of it.

FYI:

The U.S. Congress banned most offshore drilling in 1981. Bush's father, former President George H.W. Bush, followed suit with an executive order banning drilling in the wake of the 1989 Exxon Valdez oil spill in Alaska -- the worst tanker spill in U.S. history.

The White House said Congress should lift the moratorium first and then Bush would end the executive order because presidential action alone would not lead to new offshore drilling.

Yahoo News

And to tell you the truth, folks that want the President to rule by EO scare the heck out of me, I don't care what the issue is.

See #17, it wouldn't do any good, he needs Congress to lift the ban they have on drilling.

I don’t believe congress has the authority to ban drilling, the United States Government does not hold deed to the land they have banned drilling on, the states do. Sadly the elected officials in state governments don’t understand that either.

Right on both statements.

That other black stuff in the ground works too. Even though CA and KS won't allow new coal plants to be built.
