I think the new owners want to move the team to Oklahoma.

Thanks. Not a great year for Seattle sports. Well, football’s almost here.

It’s not a done deal yet, as there is another lawsuit. When Bennet bought the team from Schultz, he made it part of the purchase that he would do everything possible to keep the team here.

But emails and stuff were discovered that show his intent was from very early on to move the team.

Shultz has filed a lawsuit to overturn the sale because of fraud and bad faith.

Named the SuperSonics after Boeing's recently awarded contract for the SST project (later canceled)

Why keep the name? It was outdated at least since 1972.

Shultz is pissing up a rope. Once the final sales contract is signed, verbal representations prior to that time don't mean squat. Shultz is doing this posturing strictly for show; and no other reason. If the people of Seattle are upset about losing the Sonics, they should direct their anger at Shultz. Only an idiot would not have known Bennett was going to move the team to OKC as soon as possible.

Bennett chickened out. He likely would have only had to pay the $26.5 million on the actual lease if the judge had decided the case.

Everybody expects he will try to get an injunction filed ASAP to prevent the move until the case is decided.

I’m not a big NBA fan or whatever, but I always thought that when a franchise was granted, it was granted to a city, not an individual. Just my thoughts.

Has Oklahoma ever had a major league professional team in any sport?

Oh yeah, Barry Switzers teams were paid, and they won championships.

The New Orleans Hornets made their home in OKC after the hurricane for a couple of years. They were well received.

We have AAA baseball in OKC, AA in Tulsa, minor league hockey in both OKC and Tulsa, arena football in both cities, all are pretty well supported.

Just posted it for discussion and comment.

That’s true, but the Oklahoma City SuperSonics is just as ridiculus as the Utah Jazz and the LA Dodgers. I’m glad the name may possibly fit the area anyway.

The NBA is too corrupt and filled with a bunch of gangbangers. It’s time for a new basketball league, in medium-sized cities across the heartland. Naismith must be spinning in his grave at what his invention has become.

Paul Allen repurchased the Rose Garden after the company of his that owned it put it into bankruptcy. He's not going to move it. Besides, where would he put the team in Seattle. The Rose Garden is a wonderful facility and local support for the team is now overwhelming after several rough years.

The fan support in Cleveland was huge too, and suddenly the Browns became the Ravens.

Never trust an owner and never trust a city that sets its sites on getting a team.

No one care about the Sonics, Seattle just isn’t “ghetto” enough. Given what the NBA has descended into, it’s only a sport for young black men anyway.

Excellent! Now if we can also get Paul Allen to sell the Portland Jailblazers we can have a Northwest free of thug ball players and their rich and angry baby momas, crack smoking girlfriends, weed smoking possies, dog fighting friends, Caddy driving parents and everything else associated with them.

I can hardly wait! !

And Oklahoma City is? I'll give it 5 years and they'll be moving again.

“....we can have a Northwest free of thug ball players and their rich and angry baby momas, crack smoking girlfriends, weed smoking possies, dog fighting friends, Caddy driving parents and everything else associated with them.”

Here in St. Louis we effectively traded the NBA for the NHL circa 1967.

A superb trade.

The NHL players have been, with extremely rare exceptions, solid citizens....you know boring, unhip stuff like raising their families, embracing the community, obeying the law.....
