WASHINGTON, July 1 (Xinhua) -- The White House overrated progress in its updated report on Iraq, U.S. Democratic lawmakers said Tuesday.
Congressman Mike McIntyre, a Democrat from North Carolina, said the report used false standards to determine whether satisfactory progress was made in 18 benchmarks set by the Bush administration.
The report, made public Tuesday, rated Iraq's progress in 15 of18 benchmarks as "satisfactory", up from 8 in an earlier report a year ago.
Only two benchmarks, enacting and implementing laws to disarm militias and distribute oil revenues were rated "unsatisfactory."
One benchmark was described as "mixed": the progress of the Iraqi security forces.
But McIntyre and other Democrats said only a few benchmarks has been actually met.
Senator Carl Levin, a Democrat from Michigan, said there is no military solution to the Iraq problem, no matter what White House said about the progress in Iraq.
U.S. President George W. Bush signaled that he will keep most of the current 147,000 U.S. troop in Iraq through the end of his term in January next year.
Whether the United States will speed up withdrawal from Iraq after that depends on results of this year's general election.
Republican presidential contender John McCain said he will fight the war until a complete victory while his Democratic rival Barack Obama promised to start withdrawing troops from Iraq as soon as he takes office of the president.
“benchmarks has been actually met.”
Poor grammar.
Are these people Americans?
sheesh

Yeah...Like everybody doesn’t know that Democrats are big fat lying cowards and sniveling traitors.
I do believe it’s past time to start going after major newspapers who reveal classified information. I also think it’s time to dust off our sedition statutes. We have allowed people on the left to all but commit treason without facing any down side. I think that could wind up to be a two-edged sword, but it has gotten reciculous what our officials can get away with.
Sorry, boys - you can only move the goalposts so far until you run out of field. Find another issue.
Iraq has a more effective Congress than we do. By any measure this has been the most successful war in Histoir. The DNC however remains in a quagmire.
Pray for W and Our Freedom Fighters
Another anti-American left-wing Nazi supports al-Qaeda and the terrorist emeny of the American People, Mike McIntyre from North Iran.
“Democrats: White House Overrates Iraq Progress”
The Democrats won’t recognize progress any where on anything until they can figure out a way to take the credit.
This is a serious charge.
We should contact Mike McIntyre and demand that he put forth his evidence now. A charge like this must be made boldly. Moon bats on the six o’clock news are priceless in an election year.
Wait---------------never mind!
That’s strange. I thought the Dems were underrating it.
Sunnis close to joining Iraqi government
Of course the Sunni and Shia hate each other and the Civil War will continue. /s
" 'Rats overrate their relevance and intelligence."
And I don't much care what the Democrats have to say.
God Bless Our Troops.
I love the way the Democrats are owning this knee-jerk opposition to war. We are going to hang both oil prices and victory around their necks this November.
The democrats are moving the goal posts. Here’s what McIntyre said back in 2007:
“The only hope, McIntyre added, is that Congress will yield enough oversight and influence to make sure the rest of the president’s plan is carried out, the Iraqis are held to their promises and that the troops are brought home as soon as possible.
“We need to be lessening the American footprint and letting the Iraqis take more responsibility for their own security, self-government and ultimately, their own destiny. We have got to see a commitment from the Iraqis.”

Not wanting to hijack the thread, but here is a related message I recieved from John Kerry.com on May 5th.
“Over a week ago, the New York Times published a major investigative article, detailing a secret Pentagon program the Times said was designed to recruit and cultivate the “military analysts” you see on the major news networks in an attempt to create coverage favorable to the Bush Administration’s policy in Iraq.
The Times described an extensive program, with dozens of television analysts involved, some of whom had extensive business ties to the Defense Department — in fact they called it “an effort to transform the analysts into a kind of media Trojan horse — an instrument intended to shape terrorism coverage from inside the major TV and radio networks.”
Since that story ran, there’s been a virtual news blackout, and we haven’t gotten any closer to finding out the real story.
You can change that. I sent a letter to the Government Accounting Organization requesting an investigation, and I’d like you to show your support by virtually “co-signing” the letter with me. Only with an overwhelming display of grassroots energy can we put this story in the spotlight and press for answers.

The Pentagon quickly issued a statement that they’ve ended the program, but I still believe that we need to have a complete accounting of exactly what was happening, who was involved, and what it accomplished. I don’t think that’s too much to ask — do you?
If you believe, as I do, that we as citizens have a right to know the real story, please co-sign the letter demanding answers:

We know the life-or-death consequences of policy decisions in Iraq and Afghanistan — and we know that these policies should be debated and defended without secret programs designed to tailor the news for the Administration’s goals. This is too important to brush aside.
We must demand answers.
Thank you,
John Kerry
