Senate Democrats promise to kill Alaska drilling plan

Hearst Newspapers WASHINGTON - Senate Democrats vowed Thursday to block a White House plan to open 1.5 million acres of protected Arctic wilderness for oil drilling and exploration, calling it "dead on arrival" one day after it was approved by the House of Representatives.

The Senate will debate the plan after Labor Day.

At issue is a swath of the 19 million-acre Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR)

Sorry dims, an elephant never forgets and trying to say we shouldn't drill in anwr because it will be years before we see the results doesn't cut when we could have started years ago and already have oil pumping if you didnt kill it.

If Bush was really serious about drilling...he would have issued an Executive Order to start drilling....even declare a national emergency.

Let the Dems, then, attack drilling in ANWAR.

Bush doesnt have the nads to Exec Order on this...prolly because him and Soros stand to make so much money on the high oil prices

I suppose the Dem's reasoning for their attrocious action is for the U.S. to develop alternative fuels - which will take years to put into place.

So what do we all do in the meantime?

There is one executive order and one congressionally passed law that prohibits drilling so for President Bush to rescind the executive order will do nothing. As for declaring a National Emergency, price alone is not reason enough to do so. The only way it would stand is if we actually ran out of oil.

Now please disclose to us how much money President Bush is making on oil prices where they are? It should be easy for you since it falls under The Open Records Laws.

If the Democrats get away with this, notify Japan that we must now keep all oil from Alaska here in the States. Our country gets none of the oil coming out of Alaska. This country needs to think about its priorities.

Said it before and I’ll say it again.

If the Republicans cannot climb on top of this issue, they SUCK and they deserve to lose. Sorry to repeat myself, but the Democrats in Congress are now committing national economic suicide. This is a surrender to OPEC. This is exposing our throats to our known enemies. Flat out. I want to ask the question why Congress is at war with the American people as if someone could or would give me an answer, but this now approaches the Pearl Harbor moment, where we need no longer know or care about the whys and wherefores.

What do these s**ts need? A complete economic collapse?

Remember the TAP? They told us it would take 15 years and IIRC, it took 3.

I just heard something on FNC to the effect that a group of Senators is going to offer a bipartisan plan to open drilling offshore, but I was also working and didn’t hear the details and I don’t recall who they were interviewing.

I hope the Senate gives Harry a shock. I am certain the Senators are hearing from their constituents during this weekend.

3catsanadog: “I suppose the Dem’s reasoning for their attrocious action is for the U.S. to develop alternative fuels - which will take years to put into place.”

What people just don’t seem to realize is that alternative fuels simply may not be economically feasible. Sure, you can create ethanol from switch grass, but can that be done to the scale necessary to actually fill our existing oil demand? Probably not. Some things are just not possible.
There’s a very simple explanation why oil is so widely used. It’s the best solution for our existing technology and standard of living.

What the Dems won’t admit is this. They really don’t want us to maintain the same standard of living. I bet you many folks on the left actually love the current oil prices, as they force people to do less. Frankly, I think a large portion of the radical left would like it if 90% of the human race died tomorrow. They, the radical environmentalists, are not a very nice bunch.

They are benefiting in some way by keeping America enslaved to the oil-producing countries.

Whether they're getting kickbacks for keeping us dependent, or whether it's ideology and hatred of American freedom (endless gas price increases drastically alters the behavior of people and makes them give up the freedom they have with their own vehicles and more dependent on government, i.e. mass transit), or slavish devotion to the manufactured pretense/crisis/religion of "global warming", or the simple fact that democrats are control-nazi totalitarians and will never give up this control they have over 300 million people, rest assured the rats are getting something out of harming the American people this way.

Something so good to them that they're willing to hand the issue to the Republicans to use against them this fall rather than give up what they're getting.

“Senate Democrats vowed Thursday to block a White House plan to open 1.5 million acres of protected Arctic wilderness for oil drilling and exploration, calling it “dead on arrival” one day after it was approved by the House of Representatives.”

And, unless something’s changed, the Republican nominee will be right there in solidarity with the Senate Dems.

Time for Republican House and Senate candidates to definitely carve out some strong positions at odds with Juan, i.e., drilling in Alaska and opposition to amnesty.

Who voted for McCain, and why?

In my humble opinion, the Democrats are trying to stand in the way of an out-of-control locomotive. The people of the USA are beginning to suffer and the polls are showing that they want more domestic oil. The Dems have their radical left-wing enviro-whackos to satisfy so they must try to deflect the issue.

Its possible that the Dems may be able to dodge bullets long enough to win the election but, I think a long cold winter is going to turn a lot of voters against them. I suspect that Obama will be elected in Nov, but his presidency will be consumed by energy issues. If I were a betting man, I expect that in 2012, the GOP will refer to his presidency as “Jimmie Carter’s second term”.

The President, no matter who he should be, always takes the hit on a bad economy. The Democrats know full well the longer they wait on the drilling the more the economy will go down hill fast and hard. This will ensure Obama’s election. They don't care how many people are hurt by this. All they want is the power of the office. Like I say most people who go to the polls will blame the high cost of gas on Bush and the Republicans because they don't keep up with the issues. In other words most of the voting public are stupid.

What do these s**ts need? A complete economic collapse?”

They want to destroy our culture so they can rebuild it according to their ideals. They want you to have to park your car and take public transportation. They hate you and they hate your standard of living. If you won’t agree to give them control over your life, they will take it by force. They won’t drill because they know it will help and they don’t WANT to help you. They want to crush you. It’s their vision for the future. These high gas prices are the best thing to ever happen, if you are a statist, totalitarian elitist, which is what Congress is. They do not fear a complete economic collapse, they welcome it. Imagine the power they can get their hands on. Imagine the freedom people would give up. Imagine the inroads the government could make in just a few years.

Why won’t the Republican Party point this out? Why won’t they take advantage of this? It’s very simple, they don’t want to. People think the Republicans are stupid. They aren’t. They are brothers to the Democrats. They won’t oppose the Democrats in any serious way because they don’t oppose the Democrats in any serious way. It’s very simple. If you look at what people DO, then you’ll know who and what they ARE, regardless of their rhetoric.

You know, I grew up as an East coast liberal. Over the past say decade, I’ve gradually acquired a far more conservative outlook. Reading FR has probably been the stimulus, along with becoming great friends with a guy who’s also a FReeper. Years ago if you had said what you said I would have thought you were a John Birch Society crackpot. And now it seems perfectly plain to see.

The two parties within our poitical system have gone from the “ins” and the loyal opposition” to a cadre of vile enemies of the state. Probably it has been this way longer than I have been aware of it, but what I see now is just a continuously ratcheted-up escalation in the quest to destroy the American way of life by the Dems. They smell it, they are drooling over it with this oil thing. They know they get elected out of times of economic trauma by promising anything they can to an electorate that has next to nothing left to be squeezed out.

I have to confess that I get a nauseous feeling eerily reminiscent of how I myself felt around 9/11 about the prospects of the nation here, because if this is the issue that does us in....then the Arabs have won. They will have brought our economy to its’ knees. How fragile are things now? Those turds could withhold a few MM bpd and really throw a wrench into the world economy. And the Dems would ullulate in the halls of Congress. It’s a thoroughly disgusting picture, the traitors we have allegedly representing us.

Paint the RATS into a corner; force them to vote leftist, and then publicize the hell out of it. And yet there the Republicans sit like a bunch of small town funeral directors, confused and befuddled with their thumbs up their proverbial you-know-whats.

One of the key things that we have to remember is that there are many who believe that third world poverty is caused by first world affluence. They believe that the reason so many in the world have so little is because we have hogged it all. They’ll bring out their charts and show that we use x% of this resource or that resource, but we’re only y% of the world’s population. Oh, isn’t that so UNFAIR they say. See? We’re causing world poverty. They are convinced that reducing the standard of living here (YOUR standard of living) will make the world a better and more fair place. Of course, Al Gore won’t reduce HIS standard of living. Nor will Ted Kennedy et. al. They are special. They are exempt. You and I will have to ‘sacrifice’ for the future, but they won’t.

I have people like this in my own family. Two brothers and a couple of nephews who think just like this. They’re the hate America crowd. I’m sure may Freepers could tell similar stories.
