A NeW Kind of Choice
by: Rachel Paulk, July 02, 2008
Radical feminists have been hard at work for decades stressing the importance of women choosing career paths over homemaking, corner offices instead of kitchens, and power suits to replace aprons. To a certain extent, their message has been accepted and assimilated into mainstream society.
The U.S. Department of Labor reported in 2007 that A record 68 million women were employed in the U.S.75% of employed women worked on full-time jobs, while 25% worked on a part-time basis and Women accounted for 51% of all workers in the high-paying management, professional, and related occupations. Yet a new movement of women is rising up with an age-old message countering the feminist focus on careers before kids. Though they recognize a womans choice between the corporation and kitchen, these women unapologetically choose domesticity.
At the forefront of the fight against radical feminism, the Network of Enlightened Women (NeW) seeks to emphasize the value of motherhood in response to their perception of its degraded worth per the feminist focus on careers. Karin Agness, founder of the 4-year-old organization, stated the following at their National Conference on June 27:
In the 20th century, women have made great gains, but unfortunately the feminists have taken it too far to one extreme. Theyve opened the door to careers for many women, but relegated those women who choose motherhood and family to second-class citizenship. Rather than giving women a choice, theyve made the choice for us
She continued,
In NeW we are culturally conservative young women; we embrace our femininity, we embrace modesty. We recognize that there are differences between the sexes, and rather then measure a womans self worth solely by her career and what she does outside the home, we recognize the value of motherhood....

Gee, I thought I was oppressed.
A good option. That said I think men are largely responsible for the liberalism in young women. If young men behaved themselves more in relationship to women then single women would feel more secure and not feel the need to protect themselves with us versus them sexual politics of the left.
We also have a society that calls to the selfishness of young men and women. As if life is meant to be playground and anything that interferes with the entertainment of the young is undesirable. It does not matter if it is an unwanted pregnancy or inconvenient mate. Responsibility that doesn’t support the ability to party and dance around half naked (if we are lucky) is considered oppressive and unbearable. Parents even reinforce this idea and desire to protect their children from responsibility for their actions.
I believe the war between the sexes is unnecessary and it has hurt the most venerable among us and has led to horrible violence and detachment between the sexes. I for one prefer the partnership approach. Women and men both need to stop with the popular cynicism. Parents should love their children, men should love their wives, and women should love their husbands. A family is not a trade off it is product of a good life. The family is not there to support a career, a career is there to support a family. The world may tell a different story but it is a story that leads to a lonely life usually surrounded by cats and liter boxes for women and for men a string of endless one night stands and children who do not know their father.
