"Rush Limbaugh Renews Long-Term Contract with Premiere Radio Networks and Clear Channel Radio as He Celebrates 20 Years on Air!!"
July 2, 2008

LOS ANGELES, July 2, 2008 – Rush Limbaugh, who’s heard weekly by nearly 20 million listeners on about 600 radio stations nationwide, renewed his contract with Premiere Radio Networks and Clear Channel Radio, continuing syndication of The Rush Limbaugh Show many years into the future. The deal also includes continued syndication of The Rush Limbaugh Morning Update, a 90-second commentary that airs Monday through Friday. Furthermore, Premiere Radio, in partnership with Mr. Limbaugh, will continue to oversee The Limbaugh Letter, a monthly newsletter with a subscriber base in the hundreds of thousands, and RushLimbaugh.com, one of the most popular broadcast media websites that incorporates Rush247.com, a subscription service.

Mr. Limbaugh stated, “This is exactly where I want to be, doing what I was born to do, with an amazing audience and phenomenal support from affiliate stations and sponsors. I’m having more fun than a human being should be allowed to have. There’s a relationship between the audience and the host here that is second to none. We’re going to continue to provide Broadcast Excellence and have a lot of fun along the way.”

Advertiser and affiliate demand is at an all-time high for Mr. Limbaugh. President of Premiere Radio Networks Charlie Rahilly stated, “The Rush Limbaugh Show enjoys an unprecedented platform of radio affiliates. Plus, advertisers harness the intensity of listener engagement – no one’s ‘word of mouth’ about a product or service delivers more impact than Mr. Limbaugh’s. The Premiere team is proud to partner with Mr. Limbaugh deep into the next decade.”

Clear Channel Radio President and CEO John Hogan commented, “Broadcasters of Rush’s quality come along once in a lifetime. We’re privileged to continue our relationship which is unprecedented in the history of our industry.

In addition, The Rush Limbaugh Show will reach a radio milestone this August – the 20th anniversary of America’s most-listened-to radio program.

The Rush Limbaugh Show is the highest rated national radio talk show in America. Known as the media pundit who reshaped the political landscape with his entertaining and informative brand of conservatism, Mr. Limbaugh is also widely credited with resuscitating AM radio by many industry experts. He has been recognized for his achievements with Marconi Awards for “Syndicated Radio Personality of the Year” in 1992, 1995, 2000 and 2005 from the National Association of Broadcasters. In 1993, he was inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame and in 1998, into the National Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame.

Its amazing that after 20 years, they still don’t get it. The reason that liberal talk radio is an absolute failure is because they have NO sense of humor. Its nothing but anger and envy.
You could hear the envy in that guys voice. He couldn’t carry Rush’s cigar cutter.

The Friends are celebrating the 80's this week and tied in the launch of talk radio by Rush. It was leftie host Mike Papantonio and it was the most disgusting segment I have ever heard. Even the Friends were embarrassed. Between him and the Ashley Wilkes segments, I was screaming at the TV all morning.

As a rough guide - if they are paying him X a year, they expect to make at least 2X a year, or X a year in profit, from his services.

The free market never gets this stuff wrong (or never gets it wrong twice anyway)

Where does it say in the rule book that you get to decide what qualifies as obscene?

I see from your profile that you're an MD ... so what if someone else was to call you out on how much you make.

judgement and envy don't become you niko, give 'em up.

1. It isn’t salary, it’s a business contract. I imagine Rush has to cover expenses. For example, who pays for the call screeners and Bo Snerdley?

2. Even if he takes the lion’s share of this, so what? Someone’s willing to pay him. Ain’t capitalism grand?

3. My main worry, though, is that continued living in the stratosphere will reduce his interconnect with us normal-salaried Joes, and this make him less effective. This has already taken place.

That, and this leaves him more open to natural human foibles that go with having lots, LOTS of excess cash lying around. That’s already happened, too.

But I think this is roughly equivalent to what he’s already been making, so I guess we can just expect more of the type of show we’ve been getting for the last 4 years: Decent commentary, interrupted by tales of conspicuous consumption. Sort of like what Forbes Magazine used to be like....

Not to mention that lib radio spends a lot of time trashing American business, which is where advertising revenue comes from, which is what funds the show. They're that stupid. They don't understand why businesses won't subsidize slander against themselves.

Who are you to say what is obscene? Rush is being paid his fair market value. I'm being paid my fair market value. You're being paid your fair market value. If you were worth $50M a year to do what you do, then that's what you would be paid.

Yep, this is the free market at work.

I know radio stations live and die by their ratings. He’s a phenomenal (sp?) presence. He’s on 600 radio stations. You could drive coast to coast and always be within earshot of a station carrying Rush.

So if he didn’t get the ratings, and didn’t help the ratings of all the local stations, and make money for them, there’s no way he would command so much money in a free market.

Maybe you would prefer that the government should determine what Limbaugh's salary will be? Apparently, Rush is worth this salary to his employer, or else the employer would not be paying it. (The employer is not in business to lose money).

That's the way it works in a free market. As long as what they do is legal, people should be able to earn as much as they can (or want).

I may think that the amount of money he gets is way more than he “needs.” But, that’s not for me or the government to decide. It’s for the market to decide, and the market has spoken. Same with whatever salary Alex Rodriguez makes for the Yankees, and whatever salary C. C. Sabathia will get as a free agent (when, sadly, he no longer wears Chief Wahoo on his lid).

By the way, I love your tagline. You are absolutely correct in the observation that the first black President needs to be Jackie Robinson, and Barack Obama is no Jackie Robinson.

$2.50 per listener...$50 Million a year, for the next 8 years...Nice work if you can get it!@ :o)

I can’t comprehend spending $5 million a year on personal wants and needs...when one already owns a McMansion, with all the creature comforts.

I’d love to hear that he put in a large Solar Panel array, using the new nanowire tech, and a couple of vertical wind towers, and went “off the grid”... not so much to be an eco-nut, but to be energy indepedant, and “electrtical bill free”. So that when that contract runs out, the panels and the turbines will have allready paid back more than half of their installation costs.

Was watching a show, where they profiled Larry Hagmans(?) house, and he’s got a setup, like I’ve described, and he says he went from a $36,000 annual electric bill, to a $13 bill, aned that was basically administrative and clerical costs, as he not only got all his electricity from his own system, but subsidized 5 othert homes, and sold his surplus above and beyond, to his local power company....Of course, living on the california coast, doesn’t hurt as far as having lots of sun and wind. :o)
