NJ Lotto sells tickets after winners are redeemed
"That's the lottery for ya
they make money, on top of money, on top of money. It's ridiculous."

Now, that’s a real government security program! Very unlike the Federal Ponzi Scheme that is circulating around the country.
This is done all the time, here in Wisconsin stores post a list of the games which still have top prizes remaining.
It’s New Jersey. What else would you expect? Those guys are
a bunch of crooks.
Every ticket, when printed, had a supposed equal chance of winning. Prizes were determined based upon the expected number of tickets sold. That the top prize is no longer available because someone won it doesn’t change the game. A wise player, who knows how to check if the prizes have been claimed, would be at an advantage, but I think it’d be simply suggested to the lottery to not release those winners until after the game has been completed.
I don’t see a problem here. If they want fair games, they shouldn’t be playing the lottery.

Lottery = Tax on the Poor, Stupid and Innumerate People.
Yep, a bunch of Gumbahs in that state.
That was the topic of a Dilbert strip not too long ago. The ever-conniving Dogbert is selling cut-rate lottery tickets after the drawing. His point? “Same odds of winning.” Hmm...
This is NJ, where Gov Corzine just passed a budget with supposed “major spending cuts.” A joke. Almost all the “cuts” were to the property tax rebate program, and he increased spending for schools by the same amount. So the “cut” is really a tax and spending increase.
Heh, heh. For some reason, this cracks me up. Maybe it’s because I’m always behind the fat-ass woman buying Ding-Dongs and HoHos for her fat-ass kids with food stamps and THEN she orders all the crap from behind the counter like cigarettes and lottery tickets with her “real” money.
Isn’t the same true for the Monopoly games at Mc’Donald’s, and many other similar promotions? I mean the jackpot could have been won weeks before the game ends, and all that would be left would be the lesser prizes. But the advertisements do not tell the jackpot has already been won, so you are hoping it might be you, tempting you to continue to buy into the game.
A VOLUNTARY tax at that.
I'm not an apologist for either NJ state government or for the lottery commission. But if people are going to be stupid enough to waste money on a lottery in the first place, they should at least inform themselves about the details before playing.
Lottery tickets are a CONSTITUTIONAL right!!!!.....I think.
Kinda like “voluntary taxation”. Just give your money to the state, and get absolutely nothing in return.
Buying a ticket or two every now and then is fun...and yes, I have won (small and sorta medium cash prizes)...and to quote the old PA Lottery adverts...'You got to play to win.'
That was my first reaction too.
“Buying a ticket or two every now and then is fun...”
My sisters and I buy scratch off tickets all the time in New York. One of them won $500 and the other $1,000. I am not that lucky. I only win a dollar here and a dollar there. I keep telling my husband I am a scratch off ticket away from retirement. He says I am one scracth off ticket away from a twelve step program. I am beginning to think he is right.
As Gus, the second most famous groundhog in Pennsylvania sez, 'Keep on scratching...' I have never won really big (well it was 'big' to me...I won $600 on a $2.00 game once, and a few twentys and ones or free tickets along the way). Its just fun...I only buy when I go into our local convenience store (random--can't pay at the pump, or need milk or something...and I just pick one or two out). Nothing big, no addiction...I probably spend less than $100 over an entire year...
Now the bingo ladies...OMG!!! Hard core gamers there. Had to go to a bingo (for a fundraiser...I bought a ticket)...wow. Those gals watch 20 cards at once, eat, smoke, talk w/their table mates...and I had trouble just watching my cards...the lady next to me (a regular, who had have me in age by 30+ years) kept reaching over and dabbing my cards (nos. that I missed)...the dear lady knew I was having 'troubles' paying attention...LOL...so much for my future as a gambler!
The bingo crowd were supposedly the ones who “accidently voted for Buchanan” in 2000. What a hoot!
