Edward F. Bachner IV spent years prowling dark corners of the Internet, where he sought a hit man to carry out the "permanent retirement" of an unidentified woman, according to a federal complaint filed Tuesday.
Bachner, who was accused this week of buying a dangerous pufferfish toxin, suggested in one e-mail that payment for the murder would be an AK-47 assault rifle and $8,000, the complaint alleges.
"If we have an agreement, I can send you specific info that will get you within 5 yards of mark on . . . any weekday," Bachner wrote, according to the court record. "The rest would be up to youthis is intended as a simple termination, not a defilement of said mark."
Bachner, 35, of Lake in the Hills posed as a researcher to buy large quantities of the deadly fish neurotoxin, according the federal complaint, which did not link the alleged murder-for-hire plot with his frequent purchases of the toxin.

The tangled web crashed down on Bachner, a financial planner, when federal agents searched his home Monday in a quiet suburban subdivision and found six empty vials of the neurotoxin TTX. Pufferfish produce the toxin naturally but it also can be created in a lab, according to the complaint filed in U.S. District Court in Rockford.
Federal agents retrieved multiple needles and syringes as well as a book that describes effective doses for poisoning people, the complaint said. Agents returned Tuesday to Bachner's home, some wearing protective suits.
Authorities allege that Bachner admitted sending e-mails in 2006 to various individuals, seeking the murder of the unidentified woman, described as 32 years old living in Algonquin.
"I've got a job for you," Bachner allegedly e-mailed one person, who later went to police.

"THAT was one great dinner! BTW, what kind of seafood was that?"
Are you sure you don’t mean “Pufferfish man toxin allegedly suspect sought hit”?

Huh...must have read The Serpent and The Rainbow too many times...
...I see....zombies...
I was once taken to a unique restaurant in Nagoya, Japan — which served Puffer Fish (Fugu Fish) sashimi....
It must be a novelty dish, because it really didn’t taste that great...
At the restaurant, we were told the story of a famous Japanese actor - who hosted a dinner for friends.
At the end of dinner - he ordered the poisonous organ be brought to the table.
He snatched it off the display tray and ate it...
Died shortly thereafter in front of his friends....
Never could confirm if the story was true, or just a myth told to Henna Gaijin.
