UFO on track to earth! Activate lunar defenses!
Launch miniskirted Space Vixens!
Launch interceptors!
“You shall have a front row seat. Bring her upstayaaars.”
Just before Halloween in 1938, the world famous astronomer, Professor Richard Pierson, said “it was probably a coincidence” between astronomers noting regular bursts of incandescent gas on Mars and the “meteor” striking within 20mi of his observatory, even though Mars was at its closest point to Earth at the time.
Yeah, but it don't compare with how PO'd they are at Iowa and the Midwest.
Reminds me of the opening scene to “The Blob” - which scared the willies out of me when I saw it back in the day. I couldn’t sit on the toilet for a month afterwards.

ACTS 2
17 In the last days, God says,
I will pour out my Spirit upon all people.
Your sons and daughters will prophesy.
Your young men will see visions,
and your old men will dream dreams.
18 In those days I will pour out my Spirit
even on my servantsmen and women alike
and they will prophesy.
19 And I will cause wonders in the heavens above
and signs on the earth below
blood and fire and clouds of smoke.
20 The sun will become dark,
and the moon will turn blood red
before that great and glorious day of the Lord
arrives.
21 But everyone who calls on the name of the Lord
will be saved.
I know what it wasn’t : wormhole traveling space monsters crashing their flying saucer.
Ill never forget my close encounter. It was 1969 and I was in second grade. One clear warm early summer evening that year, a friend and I were playing outside in my backyard in the dark as my mother kept close watch on us while reading a book under the back porch light. It was a rare treat to be outside playing in the dark - normally forbidden and cool and kind of spooky at the same time.
We started out catching lighting bugs in the fresh green tall and yet un-mown grass but then we started playing and pretending we were from outer space Cat Women from Mars or something along that line, probably inspired in part by the TV shows Batman and Star Trek and by my being an avid fan of the US space missions I never missed a Gemini or Apollo mission on TV, had a model Lunar Lander and big a map of the Moon, thanks to National Geographic, in my bedroom.
All of a sudden the dark ground lit up under us like it was daytime and I remember looking up skyward to see a bright sparkly bluish-greenish ball with a long sparkly yellowish tail flying right over our house and back yard. It was so close that I could actually hear it. It made a whistling and whooshing sound as it screamed through the sky right over our heads.
My mother dropped her book and her glass of ice tea on the patio as she bolted straight up from her lounge chair and I can still remember the sound of the glass shattering against the hard concrete of the patio. My friend and I stood motionless, too stunned and afraid to move. My older brother, who had been inside the house listening to a baseball game on the radio, came running out the back door to see what happened as he had seen the very bright flash of light through his bedroom window.
My mother had my brother take me inside as she walked my friend, who was now crying and shaking uncontrollably, back home to her parents at the end of the street, a half dozen houses away.
My brother still had his radio on and the baseball broadcast and I listened and soon the local news broke in to report that many people had called the police to report the very strange sighting reports of UFOs and I remember being very afraid.
My brother woke up my dad, who had as usual, gone to bed early, but he was not at all concerned. He grew up in Norway and was a very practical and rational man and very interested in science and astronomy and used to seeing strange things in the sky like the Northern Lights and he scratched his sleepy and scruffy face and said meteor and went right back to bed totally unalarmed.
It turned out that my father was right and that it wasnt an alien invasion or an evil Ruskie Communist nuke missile attack, but a very small meteorite that was last seen going toward a hill and a woody and unpopulated place called Peters Mountain. No one ever found it and it was presumed to have been about the size of a golf ball as it passed over (although I would swear it looked very huge to me) and that it probably burned to the size of a mere cinder or less before nestling somewhere in those woods, yet to be found, and about ten miles from where we lived.
I will never forget it though. It was at once so terrifying but at the same time so beautiful. I will never forget the color of it; a sort of metallic turquoise color, a color that Ive never seen or replicated before or since anywhere on Earth and the sound of something so extraterrestrial yet so close that I could actually hear it and almost feel the heat of its light, the memory of it still send shivers up my spine and Id like really like to see something like that again, just to prove it was just as real as I remembered it.
No no. It’s: “Welcome to California.”
