8 crack dealers shielded by S.F. walk away
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | 7/1/8 | Jaxon Van Derbeken

San Francisco -- An effort by San Francisco to shield eight young Honduran crack dealers from federal immigration officials backfired when the youths escaped from Southern California group homes within days of their arrival, officials said Monday.

The walkaways are the latest in a string of embarrassments for city officials who are protecting illegal-immigrant drug dealers from federal authorities and possible deportation because of San Francisco's 1989 declaration that the city is a sanctuary for undocumented immigrants.

Until recently, San Francisco flew juvenile illegal immigrants convicted of drug crimes to their home countries rather than cooperate with the federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency, a practice that drew national attention when The Chronicle reported it Sunday.

When federal law enforcement authorities demanded that San Francisco halt the flights and began a criminal investigation, the city decided to house some of the dealers in long-term youth rehabilitation centers. Some of those centers are run by a nonprofitcompany called Silverlake Youth Services in mountain towns southeast of San Bernardino.

Eight Honduran juveniles who had been convicted of dealing drugs in San Francisco were sent within the past few weeks to the company's group homes, where one month's placement costs $7,000 per youth - an expense borne by San Francisco taxpayers.

Within 10 days of being sent to the unlocked group homes, however, all eight youths ran away, said Bill Siffermann, head of juvenile probation in San Francisco. He said his agency has issued arrest warrants for them.

I wholeheartedly agree that San Francisco should pay for these people to fly back to wherever they come from....keep it up and maybe we’ll be rid of the trash.....why should we taxpayers pay for them to sit in our jails while they can easily go back to their home countries and cause havoc there?

“Backfired?” It seems that it worked exactly as planned.

We are percieved as weak and helpless by other countries now.

American justice is a joke as seen by most of these illegal immigrants and probably now terrorists as well.

Once the Republican Party sold out to the illegal immigration cause, they thoroughly undermined their right to argue as the party of “the rule of law”. And when some laws apply and some laws don’t, then we get what we see in San Francisco; blatant lawlessness, with no one having the authority to call it for what it is, and to reign it in.

So now we’re arresting U.S. drug dealers, but letting illegal immigrant drug dealers go? Isn’t there an equal protection of the law argument here?

An effort by San Francisco to shield eight young Honduran crack dealers

"San Francisco" doesn't make "efforts" to shield anything; certain political people in San Francisco did this and if those political people aren't brought to justice by the feds, it is Bush who is ultimately responsible because he will have given the efforts his blessing by his failure to right the wrong. One could even reasonably assume that these San Francisco authorities were operating on instructions handed down by Bush himself.

they are only selling the crack that americans won't sell..

but what we should really do is give these sanctuary cities what they want they won't allow us to deport the crimigrants

so all the other local law enforcement agencies should just drop off all their illegals in the sanctuary cities, they can turn san fran into san salvador maybe then the limosine liberals will see the light

Disadvantaged orphan indigent youths barely scraping by selling non-FDA approved pharmaceuticals.

Don't want to characterize them too harshly do we??? /s

Let’s see if I get this:

San Francisco refuses to prosecute criminals.
San Francisco transports same criminals to Southern California, without much information given to citizens of Southern California.
San Francisco pays high prices to house these criminals AWAY from San Francisco.
San Francisco is going broke faster than the state of California.
San Francisco housed criminals in somewhat unsupervised conditions.
Criminals have now escaped into Southern California citizens domain, and San Francisco plays dumb on the whole affair.

San Francisco proves once again that they deserve the mayor and the other politicians they keep electing.
If I lived in the Southern California area where these criminals escaped, I would place a very large LAWSUIT against San Francisco.

You can’t run a country this way and expect to remain a sovereign nation. It’s very discouraging to US citizens to watch illegal aliens be entitled to extra rights that would never be afforded to legal, law-abiding, taxpaying citizens.

Well, Siffermann did say that, since the Feds are investigating the taxpayer funded frequent flyer drug dealer program, the Probation Department will be looking at other options for detention. Looks like they found one. If we can’t let ‘em go at the San Francisco airport, we’ll let ‘em go somewhere else. It’s all the same, just as long as the dealers keep up the payments.

Follow the money. San Francisco’s finest may claim to be principled, but in the end, they’re no different than any other corrupt public official.

Doesn’t your Federal law enforcement agencies have “Obstruction of Justice” or “Accessory after-the-fact” charges that they can lay? And if so, why aren’t they using them against the San Francisco city fathers? What immunity does the City of San Fransicko have that ordinary Americans don’t?

something doesn’t smell right about this, and I’m not talking about the program. How exactly were they flying these people to another country without any documentation? How exactly were they being admitted into the other country without any documentation? you have to go through TSA and immigration to leave the U.S., and have to have papers to get into every country they may have originally came from. there are some serious laws being broken here beyond just shielding criminals.

From this link....

House Passes Drake Amendment to Eradicate Sanctuary Cities Amendment withholds federal funding for localities that violate Section 642(a) of the 1996 Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act

Under section 642(a) of IIRIRA, a “Federal, State, or local government entity or official may not prohibit, or in any way restrict, any government entity or official from sending to, or receiving from, the Immigration and Naturalization Service information regarding the citizenship or immigration status, lawful or unlawful, of any individual.”

To be fair....they were too busy along with their sister city Oakland evicting those pesky Marine recruiters to be bothered with apprehending and containing mere crack peddlers. I think we should give those illegals a nice “sanctuary” in a Turkish prison. If we are going to waste the fuel to fly them somewhere that would be a good destination.

Once they’ve established the precedent for picking and choosing which laws to obey, and which laws to ignore, they shouldn’t be surprised at anything that happens there.
