McCain 'Truth Squad' hits back at Clark, Obama

John McCain is a fighter -- at least when it comes to defending his military record.
Today, a "Truth Squad" for the presumptive Republican nominee forcefully rejected General Wesley Clark's comments that McCain lacks foreign policy experience, and suggested Barack Obama do the same.
Led by John Warner, a Virginia Republican who serves with McCain on the Senate Armed Services Committee, the squad blasted Clark and sought to reenforce the military reputation of McCain, a former Vietnam POW who once headed the largest Navy aviation squadron.
"I find General Clark's comments to be unworthy, unseemly, for someone of his stature. And for a campaign that prides itself on the good judgment of its candidate, I think this reflects extremely bad judgment on the entire organization," said Lt. Commander Carl Smith, who served with McCain in the Navy.
Warner called Clark's comments "unworthy."

The important thing is that if that's the kind of campaign that Senator Obama and his surrogates and his supporters want to wage, I understand that, but it doesn't reduce the price of a gallon of gas by one penny."
that's a great line

John McCain has a damn sight more foreign policy experience than Weasley Clark. Also, my cat has more foreign policy experience than Obambi.

Good for McCain. A classy individual — humility is a rare quality among politicians. Reminds me of Reagan in that respect.
If Obama was a war hero, he’d be talking about it endlessly. Kerry never shut up about his service — thus Rush referring to Kerry as a “reputed Vietnam veteran” every time he mentions his name.
I’m liking McCain more and more as the days pass.

It sure would be nice if people stayed on topic. Every candidate is more than one issue. I don’t like his stance on illegals either, as most don’t on FR, but it’s not relevent to this discussion.

Wesley ain’t too smart is he. By saying what he said all he managed to do is highlight McCain’s service and sacrafice
versus the lack of any on the part of Obama. I bet

I did no such thing. Just because you want to get all emotional and give mclame a big kiss because some loser
attempted to disrespect mclame's military records DOES NOT dismiss the huge problems w/ mclame.
If that's what you call "got called on", you need to get out more often.

McCain needs to be nailing Obama on the fact that Obama has said that he doesn't think gas prices are too high only that they got this high too fast. McCain also needs to point out that Obama doesn't want to save people 18-24 cents on gas taxes for the summer.

"At least when it comes to defending his military record"? Based on that record, it also appears he's a fighter when it comes to his country's wars, when it comes to standing up to years of torture, and when it comes to reconstructing his life after 5 years of more hell than nearly all of us will ever see.

Obama’s resume couldn’t get him hired to run a small business — and we’re being asked to believe his is the right man to lead America?

Wesley Clark has a major credibility gap - who cares what he thinks! Sadly, those like the WWII/Korea/Vietnam veteran that I spoke with this morning. He claimed to have been a POW for 5 years in the Hanoi Hilton, and was willing to believe this, as well as the statements by the Warden/Commandant of the Hilton that McCain wasn't tortured. Maybe it is age, and all those experiences, but he was buying the enemie's tales as gospel. Very sad for anyone, especially someone who claims the distinction of being the most decorated Vietnam veteran. Very sad, indeed. Shame on him.

Obama appears to be surrounded by a number of those lefties who can’t control their anger and classless personal attack statements. If Obama really wanted to look bold and Presidential, he’d fire Wesley Clark and publicly state why he did it and further state that he’ll dump anyone else in his camp that performs similarly.

That’s all good. Shame his fighting tendencies don’t extend to other topics: abortion, the Confederate flag, privatizing Social Security, that other topic which we’re apparently not supposed to talk about in this thread...

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but from a Presidential standpoint, we lost the immigration battle. Both our choices stink on that. We now have to look for different angles to win that battle. Stop buying or servicing suppliers who use illegal labor, push for state and local officials to enforce laws and strengthen laws against renting to illegals, report illegals to ICE and LEOs, etc.
Now we have to focus on what differences there are between the two candidates. It isn't immigration, but there are a lot of other issues.

Those same people don’t even see how McCain lied in the debates before the Florida primary about what Romney said.
They pretend Juan is great because they are so in fear of Obama.
Juan is only tough when the camera is on him and he is dissing the people in his own party.
He totally caves to liberals. Thats what he will do if you vote for him. He will appease liberals and diss his own party.
Voting for this weak old clown will be a mistake.

I know there are other issues. That one issue stuck in my mind from another thread about scamnesty I just read.
By the way.....scamnesty may be “one issue”, but it would also bring at least 10 - 15 million new socialists to the program. Our recent elections have been determined by less than that.
Just food for thought.
