Democrat (Wesley Clark) With Military Background Assails McCain's Credentials

WASHINGTON: With Senator Barack Obama planning to visit the Middle East and Europe in an apparent effort to burnish his foreign policy credentials, the credentials of his likely presidential rival, Senator John McCain, came under sharp attack Sunday from a man considered a possible Democratic vice presidential candidate.
The retired general Wesley Clark said McCain had not "held executive responsibility" and had not commanded troops in wartime.
McCain's experience in Vietnam, where he was a prisoner of war for five years, has seemed at times almost to grant him invulnerability to criticism of his security background. But on Sunday he was assailed by a fellow military man, a highly decorated one who was once the NATO supreme commander.
McCain frequently points out that he led "the largest squadron in the U.S. Navy," but Clark said on CBS television that that was not enough to support a claim to the presidency.
"He hasn't been there and ordered the bombs to fall" as a wartime commander, the general said on CBS. Clark is mentioned as a possible Obama running mate, although he originally supported Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton.

When Schieffer then asked what executive responsibility Obama had held - the Democrat's résumé includes work as a community organizer in Chicago and eight years in the Illinois legislature - Clark said that Obama was running on the strength of his character and good judgment.
"Obama was running on the strength of his character and good judgment?" ROFLMAO

I live by a simple rule. If you wore the uniform, if you served your nation with honor, and especially if you fought and were wounded in battle, then you have earned the right to be treated with respect."
"That's why I am so outraged that the Republican party has systematically attacked the wartime service and patriotism of veterans who are running for office as Democrats. It is despicable -- the sign of a party more concerned about hanging onto power by any means possible than with giving veterans the respect they have earned."

"He hasn't been there and ordered the bombs to fall" as a wartime commander, the general said on CBS. If this is a requirement for being POTUS, then why did Billy Jeff serve two terms? Billy Jeff never served in the military (though he did go to China during the Vietnam War). And, Obama? Where is his "wartime" experience? Oh, that's right, he opposed the war in Iraq, but voted to fund it.

Obama is better qualified than McCain in military matters? Excuse me while I take about ten minutes to laugh. McCain is wrong on a lot of issues, but on this one it’s fair to say McCain crushes Obama. There’s not even a debate. Exactly what has Obama done in his past to qualify him to command a rifle range must less the U.S. military? I’ll bet if they’re smart, most Dem strategists will try to duck this issue.

What did Clark do to earn the right to berate McCain on his service? Oh yeah that whole Yugoslavia thing. Jumping into the middle of a centuries old civil war. Protecting and creating a stronghold for radical muslims, yeah that...

I am a old cold warrior. Put out with a busted knee and bad back from a service connected fall. I have managed an Infantry squad and served as the NCOIC (E8 slot held as an E5) for a small mid western fort.
I would say that I have more executive experience than Obama.

Wesley Clark was Valedictorian of his West Point class, a Rhodes Scholar, a decorated combat veteran in Vietnam and Four Star General in the US Army.
He is also a conniving, opportunistic, pencil neck POS and fortunately so obnoxious he has little political effect.
*Clark said McCain had not “held executive responsibility” and had not commanded troops in wartime.*
And Clark thinks Obama has. This is just one more reason through not agreeing with all of McCains views, I will vote for him over Marxist Obama and his band of stupid sycophants.

I suppose so.
Back in the last century/millennium a poster would be given a real hard time for wasting bandwidth by not putting their "new" source on the existing thread ra
ther than starting a new thread.
With FR's thread volume continuing to decline maybe it's not a problem anymore.

With FR's thread volume continuing to decline maybe it's not a problem anymore. The problem is not so much with bandwidth as it is with fragmented comments. When an article gets posted several times the discussion gets broken up and unless you read the multiple threads, you will probably miss some interesting and informative observations.

I suspect that there has never been an individual in the history of this republic who has campaigned harder for the office of vice-president. He appeared on so many platforms with Hillary that you had to figure either he was on the payroll or we are paying some of our generals way too much of a pension.
Now with these comments he has started lobbying Obama. He could not be more transparent if he went to every Obama rally with a poster that said "Hey, Barack, pick me for Veep."
A friend in the military introduced me to the term, "butt-snorkler." I rolled on the floor laughing. It applies.

Wesley Clark is in a contest with Merril McPeak as to which of them is the most moronic suckup four-star in history.
It’s close at this moment.
They each think that they will be the next Secretary of Defense for President Obama. Idiots - Obama has already picked Maxine Waters for the job.

To: kellynla
This is what the dems will do on this. They’ll be some backlash about how could Wesley Clark say this (atleast on fox news or talk radio) and some dem spokesperson will say “well you know atleast now you guys know how we felt when Kerry was ‘swiftboated’ in 2004 so I geuss we all make mistakes blah blah blah” or there’s the old reliable “sean people are concerned with health care and gas prices and paying their mortgage and they dont care what Wesley Clark said blah blah blh”.
There are few former military officers that I despise more than I do McCain. Weaselly Clark is #1 on that list... Or maybe #2, if you catch my drift.
