“As an oil exporter, they are free to pursue their idea of socialism.”

- Scandinavia is, in many ways, more Socialist than the US. On the other hand, all of the Nordic countries (Denmark, Iceland, Norway, Sweden and Finland) have been moving away from Socialim for decades. It’s not like in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s.

Corporate taxes are low, entrepreneurship is encouraged, there are plenty of dollar millionaires in relation to population size and although our governments often adopt extremely ridiculous PC policies they also give full support to Capitalism.

If Socialism means governments and unions seeking to gain control over the production and distribution of goods and services in a given society, then the Nordic countries are definitely not Socialist.

Please allow me to quote what I wrote in another thread in this forum:

“But apart from oil and a well functioning society in general, Norway is also in the possession of a very successful shipping business, a profitable fishing industry and has also been succesful like few other nations on the international financial markets. Norway is also rich in forests and minerals and contrary to what a lot of people are aware of, Norway also has a very expansive manufacturing industry. Despite being a very egalitarian culture with a great deal of state ownership (for instance, the government controls 31% of the publicly listed companies), the Norwegians seem to know something about Capitalism and investment.”

As a Swede and as a friend of Capitalism, I am proud of having a neighbor like Norway (I also admire the Norwegians for plenty of other good reasons and I also admire Sweden’s other Nordic neighbor countries).

Personally, I believe our part of the world indeed could become even less Socialist than it is today, but we also ought to reflect on the improvements that we already have accomplished.

Hail to Capitalism, fellow freeper!
