First it was a proposed ban on plastic bags.
Now, a member of the influential Madison Plan Commission wants to ban the restaurant drive-through -- or at least restrict the ubiquitous symbol of America's auto-centric lifestyle.

From the article:
“”Given the concern about all the carbon going into the atmosphere, I’m not sure we should be building more places for people to sit idling in their cars,” says Eric Sundquist, who was appointed to the citizen panel by Mayor Dave Cieslewicz this spring.:”
Well that’s great! So when we do we ban rush hour traffic jams?
Stalin would be so proud...
They’re starting to drop the veil and show their true agenda -
the banning of the personal automobile.
They don’t want you to have individual freedom of travel, folks. You can’t be controlled easy enough.
We should ban jet travel too. And vacations. And weekend trips to Grandma’s house. And any other trip not officially sanctioned by the government.

Well, not necessarily “banned”, but at least priced out of the reach of the “commoner” so that the elites will be the only ones
flying, vacationing, and visiting Grandma when they want to.
I propose that lefty loonies like Eric Sundquist be given all the power they want -- so long as it's restricted to lefty loony hubs like Madison.
Leave them free to create their own Utopias. Leave them free to attract all the other lefty loonies to these sacred Utopias.
Then, nuke them.
Don't look now Comrade, but that is probably in the works right now when Obama is Comrade Commissar Obama and the Marxist congress gets in full Marxist session in January 2009. The changes in American lifestyle are going to be vast. Power of the Government Gun will control. You will obey or be sent to prison, stripped of your home, bank accounts, all in the name of good socialism in Amerika.
“A lot of times when I grab lunch to go during the week, there is a nice park a few minutes away and I go there. While indulging in fast food and soft drinks, I often have a technical book or magazine to read.”
I do the same thing on occasion, though I prefer listening to Rush on the radio while downing my lunch. And sometimes, if it’s cold or hot outside, I sit with the car idling with the A/C or heat on..shhh. Hey, it’s money
I’m guessing that since rush hour and traffic jams are pretty much a necessity, they won’t be banned...while the same is not true of drive-through businesses that already have parking lots.
ban Madison.
why ban when you can tax?
Not good enough for the lefties to be “isolated” because they know their Utopia will fail and not be implemented nation/world wide.
Have to do it on a national level so that we can’t escape.
Carefull wally!! The intelligentsia are the first to the re-education camps.
Pick up a comic book or two.
And some people will eat in the parking lot with their cars running...ever heard of Sonic? Should we ban them too?
I think you missed the point of my comment. It’s about control.
my gawd how do these morons continue to come up with this nonsense?

You can sat THAT again.
I was mostly responding to all the foolish remarks about banning traffic, air travel, etc.
Do they have any toll roads up there? Let see how fast they tear those down to “save the palnet”. Seems in MA where “Free Range Moonbats” (moonbats that are able to do anything they want because there are NO conservatives to reign them in) are everywhere, they will support any measure to reduce CO2 except taking tolls down. That is “for the children” so they can not be touched!

can we say American Revolution II ? that is what it seems this will come too. you know they say history repeats itself.
I made mine in jest...of course you can’t ban rush hour. I was merely demonstrating the idiocy of banning people going through a drive-thru compared to the tens of millions of cars that sit idling every day during rush hour in every major city in the world.

roflmao, what is up with posting today? i am seeing alot of repeats happening.
LET’S BAN DRIVING..........TO OR THRU MADISON AND ALL THEIR BUSINESSES!...............
Don't be so sure. Off the top of my head, here's a piece of legislation that would effectively do that. You'd have to clean up the language some, but here goes:
1. Any business located in a metropolitian statistical area greater than one million persons must register with the Secretary of the Department of Green Earth.
2. The Secretary of the Department of Green Earth shall include the names of all businesses on a central register and shall, by random assignment, distribute to each business an approved Start of Business Time, not to fall outside the hours of 5:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m.
3. Each business shall begin its business day at its assigned Start of Business Time and its business day shall last no greater than eight (8) hours.
4. Any business failing to comply with this section shall be fined not more than $1,000,000 per violation and shall face imprisonment not more than ten (10) years.
I think it would be a good idea if there were no drive-ins, but I agree that banning them is the wrong way to go about it. Unfortunately, if it will generate more revenue, then no business would stop it, regardless if it was a good idea or not.
I have made a few in roads in peddling some stock video footage. I am adding content to my stock galleries where I get lots of looks, hopefully bites will follow someday. Something else I did is become of onemodelplace.com. I have had the good fortune to work with a couple of semi-pro models and have some possibilities with a pro or two coming as well as some aspiring amatuers who may have possiblities. The nice thing about OMP is there is a sort of rating system that helps filter out problem children.
In my old job in enlightened public television, I had these two control freaks phb's who had ruined their own lives and not being content, wanted to know every detail of everyone else's existence, comment on it, and offer their "ideas" on improvements.
They could not stand anyone knowing more than they did. In a lot of respects, the average person on the street does. Since I had no prospects of ever being promoted out (like all of the rest of the working class), I subscribed to every free techincal, IT, AV, and vendor catalog I could. I had a stack of mail typically 2 feet high. I encouraged the other serfs to help themselves to any of them.
2. The Secretary of the Department of Green Earth shall include the names of all businesses on a central register and shall, by random assignment, distribute to each business an approved employee who lives within walking distance or has access to mass transit.
Madison in the late 60s was the place for wellfare and the magnet of the poor from the south.
Madison in today is the poster child for the results of socialism and the fascist education system.
“I think it would be a good idea if there were no drive-ins”
Why? Do you believe man is causing global warming?
Think of how much that will reduce global warming.
Why do you not like drive thrus?
gosh—i love drive-thrus... i’d rather drive a couple of miles out of the way to go to a drive-thru than hit a closer fast food place without a drive-thru... the only drive-thru i avoid is In-n-Out... their food is so much better eaten in their white and red restaurant...
Madison should be as enviro-socialistic as it can get itself to be, by vote or by fiat.
Then the rest of us can have a shining example of enviro socialism in practice.
I do not know what causes global warming, or even if it exists.
With everyone saying we are fat, out-of-shape, and waste fuel, it seems that if we parked our cars, got out and walked into a business, it would be better for everyone.
I hope they don’t plan to take this thing state-wide. Where would Ritchie, Potsie, and Ralph hang out?
Soon the government will mandate that you cannot accept a job more than 5 miles from where you live to cut down on driving and pollution.
“With everyone saying we are fat, out-of-shape, and waste fuel, it seems that if we parked our cars, got out and walked into a business, it would be better for everyone.”
Convenience doesn’t cause obesity...being there in the first place does. lol
But I see your point.
My Mom and I visited San Diego last year. There was a Jack in the Box with no drive thru and parking was limited to 30 minutes. Now what kind of fast food place is that? I complained and was told it was city ordinance but no one seemed to know why but if I took longer than half an hour I would “probably” be ok.
That’s why I said banning is not the way to go...but a lot of times, people don’t do what’s good for them if there is an easier way.
Well in my case ...gas is taking care of that. I have cut way back on eating out....period
Same here.
