You can have a marriage contract even with a one-year-old girl, not to mention a girl of nine, seven, or eight. This is merely a contract [indicating] consent. The guardian in such a case must be the father, because the father's opinion is obligatory. Thus, the girl becomes a wife... But is the girl ready for sex or not? What is the appropriate age for having sex for the first time? This varies according to environment and traditions. In Yemen, girls are married off at nine, ten, eleven, eight, or thirteen, while in other countries, they are married off at 16. Some countries have legislated laws forbidding having sex before the girl is eighteen.

It was fairly common in traditional societies for families to contract marriages for their children at a young age. It was done in the west among royalty and nobility in order to cement alliances or join properties.
BUT it was also traditional for them to continue living apart, with their parents, after such ceremonies, until they were old enough to consummate the marriage. Normally that would not be before a girl had menstruated, maybe around 12 at the youngest, but usually older than that.
The sick thing about Ayesha is not the marriage at 6, which was probably intended to cement tribal alliances, but the fact that she apparently lived with Muhammed and he couldn’t wait until she was older than 9. It is VERY unlikely that she was properly of age that young. But Muslims consider the whole story very admirable and romantic.
And, of course, the other sick thing is that Muhammed is the ideal model for everyone to follow, as this fellow makes cldear. He was not only a pederast, but a rapist, a murderer, an enslaver, and an oath breaker, among his other less than endearing habits.

I think they are saying girls under three and boys under nine are basically unaware of their sexuality, so a couple of juveniles "playing doctor" or mimimicing animals mating, for instance, are not guilty of sexual sins.
One could argue about the ages, but generally girls do become aware of their sexual desires some years before boys.

You’re missing the point. A 3.1 year old girl who is raped by an ADULT man is classified as impure and ineligible for marriage to members of this elite Jewish priesthood class. A 2.9 year old girl who is raped by an ADULT man is classified as a “virgin”, and thus not marked for restrictions on her marriage as an adult. So per this law, the 3.1 year old girl suffers the consequences of an adult man raping her, and it’s obviously not for historical reasons of fear of sexually transmitted diseases which couldn’t be medically detected back when these laws were thought up, since the 2.9 year old would obviously be equally likely to have contracted such a disease.
I AM married to a Kohen, and nobody ever asked me if I was raped at age 3.1.
