Barack Obama may want to rethink his position on public financing after all. Not only did he lose most of the contests over the last three months of the primary, his fundraising numbers declined during the same period. In just-released figures, Obama had his weakest fundraising month of 2008 in May, outraising John McCain by only a million:
Democrat Barack Obama raised $22 million in May for his presidential campaign, his weakest fundraising month this year, and ended the month with $43 million cash on hand, the campaign reported Friday.
That puts him behind McCain, after spending $5 million more in May than he raised:
The May figures place Obama and McCain on nearly equal footing. McCain raised $21 million in May and reported $31.6 million cash on hand at months end.
But McCain also benefited from the Republican National Committee, which reported $53.5 million cash on hand to the Democratic national committees $4 million. The parties are already working with their respective presidential candidates to coordinate their campaigns.
I noted before than Obamas fundraising peaked in February, when he raised an amazing $50 million. In March, he dropped to $40 million, and April $32 million. By the time May rolled around, he had to deal with his derogatory comments towards Midwestern voters, Jeremiah Wright, and the series of gaffes that had begun to plague him after the Pennsylvania debate in April.

Too late as far as the adverse publicity it would get him...but wouldn’t it be delicious if his funding dropped below what he would have had, had he not broke his word?
Oh pleeeease let him change his mind on this one. Some of the commies are already “spewing kindly” about his FISA support, after, of course, they “bowed” to him for “taking a stand”.
Now they are “bowing” to him regarding this. Please please please let him do another reversal. I LOVE seeing pie on their pinko faces.
The hysteria is over. Despite what the MSM says, he’s now just another politician and he won’t raise funds at the pace he did earlier.
We should limit the Presidential campaigns to public financing only, and limit it to $10 million plus travel, food, fuel and security costs.
Either Obama's advisors know something or he's interpreting the available information incorrectly!
One, two! One, two! and through and through
The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
He went galumphing back.
"And has thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!"
He chortled in his joy.
Not that the Moron Media would be interested but the slide in donations as well as his losing most of the last primary contest to Hilda show the Messiah is heading doen to the bottom...Hillary will just need to push a bit here and there and his election will be puff, gone!
Wow, I didn’t expect that... Very interesting!
I understood that BHO was under considerable pressure to relieve Clinton of some of her campaign debt. This could make that problematic.
Obama can't expect to have all of those people send $50 or $100 every month and he has made a substantial blunder refusing public funding.
His numbers will be better. He will get Hillary’s bundlers on board.
But McCain will be better too. This may be an even-money race aftre all, although there is this claim that Obama can go back to his donor base and get more.
Well, WHAT ARE WE WAITING FOR? HIS INAUGURATION? ... GOP voters NEED TO SEE THE WRITING ON THE WALL HERE:
Obama + Democratic Congress = disaster for America.
We need to help out and stop it. Fund your favorite Congressional candidates. Help who you can and want.
if you dont like McCain enough to give to him, fine, but help the conservatives that are in tough races. Shaffer in Colorado is the #1 pick for me.
“I understood that BHO was under considerable pressure to relieve Clinton of some of her campaign debt. This could make that problematic.”
The deal is simple. He tells his supporters to retire her debt, and in turn she tells her supporters to give to Obama.
And for us, its great, because half a billion of Democrat political dollars went POOF, up in smoke to fund the most expensive primary race ever ( THANK YOU RUSH FOR OP CHAOS!) and in the end resulted in a weakened candidate to take on McCain.
Re college kids whipped into a frenzy and sending $50 to BO, one time —
Exactly! The BO lemmings may do this once, twice at most. And it probably won’t be $50 bucks from the vast majority. Try $10 or $20.
He's already spent what you'd give in postage sending me requests. My mailbox has two or three every day. I'm picking out some Congresscritters to donate to in other state races.
I think we FRs ought to get a "Jim's List" organized with some conservative house races that we could actually help.
I doubt he will be getting much support from Hillary backers either. She needs to raise money to pay off her debt.
“Well, WHAT ARE WE WAITING FOR? HIS INAUGURATION? ... GOP voters NEED TO SEE THE WRITING ON THE WALL HERE:
Obama + Democratic Congress = disaster for America.”
Yup... I’ve written my checks to McCain and the RNC.
Not according to this:

OBAMA WILL HAVE THE MOST EXPENSIVE CAMPAIGN EVER.
Obama is a lying, plagiarizing, flipflopping, elitist, arrogant, leftwing socialist with poor judgment and racist radical extremist friends, a racist pastor who he called his freind and mentor for 20 years, who will raise our taxes and get Americans killed with his naive and weak foreign policy ways.
It will take $500 million to get this leftist elected. Soros will make sure he has it.
“I think we FRs ought to get a “Jim’s List” organized with some conservative house races that we could actually help. “
Good idea. Here are some places to go to see what can be done:

It can’t be a final status on the declining of federal funding. He isn’t even the official candidate yet (until the convention votes) thus he can’t proffer an official position of accepting funding.
How safe is Sen Cornyn? I ask because I'm a recent "immigrant" from the econ disaster that is Michigan and don't know Texas politics too well yet(other than that you all are a damn site more conservative than most of Michigan). Anyway, just curious.
Didn’t think of that... wouldn’t it be funny if Obama flip-flopped on public financing again after all this?
It's pretty bad when Obama sucks so bad that McCain starts to look like a good alternative.
The “Jims List” sounds like a good idea.
I've always thought McCain looked better than Obama (who I expect to be Jimmy Carter: Book 2 or worse) but the arrogance is getting me as angry as the media hatchet job against the Swift Boat Vets that encouraged me to send them money four years ago.
Don't. Supporting a liberal because you fear a communist is partisan stupidity.
Good judgment = Contact the nearest, elected delegate to the Republican Party Nominating Convention and urge them to throw McCain under the front wheels of the Straight Talk Express.
He says the public system is broken all of a sudden. He hasn’t offered any legislative fix in the Senate. He claims that his contributors are roughly the equivalent of public financing, but the WHOLE idea of public financing was to level the playing field hence the candidates from each party get the SAME level of funding. If Obama is for public financing and he wants to fix it and not contribute to the “breaking” of the system he would be compelled to pool his contributions and split them with McCain.
This guy is a lying phony. And as he said today in Florida, did I fail to mention he was black?
McCain has promised to nominate reasonably conservative judges to the federal courts (including the Supreme Court) and he'll support the military in the War on Terror. If he drops out before November and someone more conservative takes his place, I'd be happy but I'm not holding my breath for it. I'm not about to give up the Supreme Court for another 20 years just because I don't have a better choice. And since I live in the New York City metropolitan area, a nuclear 9/11 is not something I want to risk as a learning experience for the country.
How safe is Sen Cornyn? I ask because I’m a recent “immigrant” from the econ disaster that is Michigan and don’t know Texas politics too well yet(other than that you all are a damn site more conservative than most of Michigan). Anyway, just curious.”
Cornyn is safe. Poll had him at 53%-35% and he’s got way more money than his opponent. Let’s just say it this way: If Cornyn loses, we might as well pack and move to New Zealand because the Dems will have filibuster proof majority and the whole of USA will be toast.
To be safe, I’d urge you to volunteer and do some calling, letts to editor, online activism and blockwalking. The hottest race in Texas? CD-22 PETE OLSON TAKES ON A LIAB DEM IN DELAY’S OLD SEAT. Find out who your local and state rep candidates are and see if they need help.
This blog has links galore to texas candidates, including Cornyn:

Amerigomag, encouraging Question_Assumptions to join your own questionable and pie-in-the-sky quest to undo an election that has already been decided is a fools errand.
You are clearly a fellow conservative, and if you know much about conservative thinking, you know that conservatives dont fall for the trap of “the end justify the means”. There are no means outside of revolutionary overturn of an election to stop McCain’s nomination. to suggest it now is a very UN-conservative and UN-democratic position. It is akin to the Jesse Jackson ‘revote’ ideas. He, alas, won the election. McCain is the nominee.
Now .. GIVEN THAT ... what do we do? Sit on our hands and watch Obama sail to victory? Some want that, but they America waaaay to short. Judges, Taxes, Iraq, war on terror, life/abortion, family, ... and stopping red diaper leftist extremist with a Jimmy Carter streak from becoming president is a worthwhile and noble goal.

A PATRIOTS GUIDE TO THE 2008 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION
Some conservatives are withholding support for McCain. Here is my response to those that are on the fence:
1. McCain is a moderate-to-conservative, Obama was rated *most liberal* Senator in the Senate last year. McCain is better on taxes, Judges, Iraq, Iran, GWOT, right-to-life, gun rights, earmarks/spending, and gay marriage (Obama will use his bully pulpit to encourage it)
2. McCain is a capable and experienced man who served the country his whole life, even spending 5 years in a POW camp. Obama has spent a lifetime raised and associated with radicals, marxists, and leftwing activists; he has served the cause of leftwing politics only and nothing else. He has no accomplishments worthy of note except getting elected.
3. Ideology aside, and putting just the basic protection of the country on the line, there is no comparison - McCain is better.
4. We vote based on who is best for the country as top priority. Republican conservatives can clean up the mess of RINO poop in the RNC later as a secondary priority, but the top priority of a patriot is what is best for America. Country before party!
5. Based on #1, #2 and #3, McCain is far far better for this country than Obama. Neither man is evil, but far more bad things will happen to USA if Obama is elected.
6. You never win by losing. The most leftwing President in American history - Obama - will be a huge blow to the conservative cause. Anyone who thinks otherwise is on drugs.
“It’s pretty bad when Obama sucks so bad” ... and HE LEADS IN THE POLLS ... that’s all you need to know how bad it sucks.
“IT’S BAD YOU KNOW” R L Burnside.
Obama is a lying, plagiarizing, flipflopping, elitist, arrogant, leftwing socialist with poor judgment and radical extremist friends and associates, including the racist pastor Rev Wright, who he called his friend and mentor for 20 years. Obama will hurt our economy with his higher taxes, hurt our culture with pro-abortion extremism and racial grievance politics, and get Americans killed with his naive and weak foreign policy.
PS. Letting a socialist win because you fear a RINO is also stupidity.

What we conservatives do is to work actively to defeat liberalism.
What partisan like the WOSG account should do is go to FreeRepublican and publish their diatribe or ...
Get a set of cojones, stand up to Republicans and demand that they rid the party of liberals like McCain.
Wow, glad to hear about Cornyn. Will still volunteer to work for him. As far as CD-22, isn't that pretty much a lock for the Republican? Olsen seems pretty conservative from what I've read about him. CD-22--as I understand it, that's Sugar Land and surroundings, right? Nice area. I teach down there once a week (I live in Houston near the Menil Museum, Univ of St Thomas). Anyway, will volunteer where I can.
Many thanks for the tips. I read Texas Conservative Review and try to catch stuff on the Tx FR forum--that's a busy place! Hard to keep up with everything. I love it down here though. Everything great about America still lives in Texas!
(Sorry for the tardy response. I teach at nights and so had to run early yesterday. I didn't get back online till now.)
ObamaMar - raised 42.8 mill - spent - 30.6 mill - Cash on hand 51.0 mill
McCainMar - raised 15.4 mill - spent - 11.8 mill - Cash on hand 11.6 mill
Clearly McCain is being much more frugal in his spending than Osama.
McCain/RNC had 10 million more than Osama/DNC at the end of April it's now about a 40 million Republican advantage against the Christ and Flag hating rats.
Fortunately, it doesn't look like McCain needs your support. Last months figures will show McCain raised more than BO. $28,500 GETS YOU A DINNER AT "21" WITH JOHN MCCAIN 2 weeks ago McCain sold 80 tickets at $28,500.
Last months = This months
I believe Obama is tapped out until the convention. Doesn’t the law state that once the convention is over and he is the official nominee, then all those people who contributed to him during the primaries can give up to the same limit for the general election? In which case he should have more money than he will know what to do with.
Several great posts WOSG. All valid and thoughtful points.
One reason that Barry may be getting less funds is arrogance. His contributors were a lot more scared of the witch than the RINO relic. If Democrats believe MSM sources like Newsweek and they do, then why should they feel compelled to contribute to a race, the likes of Newsweek has already declared over. Barry had the big lead against the witch and almost blew it, this time when he blows what he may think is a big lead, he may regret it.
“As far as CD-22, isn’t that pretty much a lock for the Republican? Olsen seems pretty conservative from what I’ve read about him. CD-22—as I understand it, that’s Sugar Land and surroundings, right?”
You would think, but the folks are rating it a tossup.
Tossup races are the races to really work at, since your efforts will make a difference.
Lampson is a liberal but he has money, incumbency and the GOP is fighting an uphill battle.
“Get a set of cojones, stand up to Republicans and demand that they rid the party of liberals like McCain. “
My cohones are intact. SO is my brain. You have a basic problem with reality if you think you can undo the McCain nomination. It’s done. Over. Complete. Finished. McCain is your and my Republican nominee. If you want to go back in time and change that, why not go further and undo 2006? Or undo 9/11? or undo, best idea yet, the Jimmy Carter Presidency.
It’s down to McCain v Obama.
You are on drugs if you think Obama is better than McCain.
And if you dont care then you arent paying attention.
“I believe Obama is tapped out until the convention. Yes. They dont have to wait until then to give.
Here’s the great thing about what McCain has done:
- public financing is $85 million
- The Democrat primary race was over $200 million per candidate; so half a billion raised spent, and now Obama is at parity with McCain in polls and in money. Its like the money was flushed.
In effect, the Democrats have had to pump $500 million to reach parity with Republicans in final spending.
Obama may well raise $200 million, but that money may also be coming out of the money other candidates need.
McCain has been a lot more frugal, and if GOP folks just match that $200 million by giving to RNC instead, we are in good shape.
No. McCain isn't my nominee.
I'm running out of patience with Republicans who march onto this forum and try to convince conservatives that it is in their best interest to vote for a liberal. It isn't in the best interest of conservatives to advance the cause of liberalism.
To that end I urge the WOSG to move along. Perhaps to moveon.org.. Should the WOSG continue to troll on our site, I promise that every attempt WOSG makes to convince conservatives of the pragmatism of liberalism, conservatives will be happy to serve up that vitriolic nonsense on a platter.
Treat all with respect but be kind to Republicans for they have the greatest potential to become conservatives.
I’m running out of patience with suicide conservatives who belch idiocies onto this forum and try to convince conservatives that it is in their best interest to let the Mocha Marxist win, in a year that will assuredly be difficult at best for the GOP.
It isn’t in the best interest of conservatives to advance the cause of liberalism under the Obama leftwing Democrat banner.
To that end I urge the Amierigomag to move along. Perhaps to moveon.org where his vitriol is more than welcome and where he help in getting leftwing marxist Democrats elected is welcomed as well ... Should the Amerigomag continue to troll on our site, I promise that every attempt Amerigomag makes to convince conservatives of the pragmatism of suicide and fragging an 80% lifetime ACU Republican candidate, conservatives like me will be happy to serve up that vitriolic nonsense on a platter.
In the meantime, enjoy the Obama presidency that you so long for, here’s a preview:
http://no-bama.blogspot.com/ -
I am already a very serious conservative, serious enough to not fight battles already decided and ready to move on to the real issues at hand.
Having one of these suicide conservatives accuse me otherwise is a bit like Jimmy Swaggart calling the Pope a heretic.
Forgive them Lord, they know not what they do.
http://no-bama.blogspot.com/ - NObama, stop the Hype and Chains candidate
I do not regret their fate.
Don’t kiss her goodbye until we know who BOTH VPs are.
As I well know WOSG. I have read many of your comments over the years and I was impressed enough with what you've written that I have your "in forum" page bookmarked.
I did not mean to imply you were not conservative...both quotes I posted were from Amerigomag. The very wise quote about being kind to Republicans is on Amerigomag's homepage...I thought it was a kinder way to point out what "Republican-conservatives," like myself, see as the sanctimonious hypocrisy of "non-partisan conservatives."
