Notice that what Iran is asking for is not that a specific country recieve a seat, but that an ideology gets a permanent seat - a ‘supremist’ ideology at that. If supremists ideologies deserve a seat in order to protect themselves, when will the KKK get their permanent seat on the council with veto power?
I am all for equal representation. BUT...on the other hand, accountability should be weighed in as well. Meaning anyone as a member MUST abide by the same set of governing rules to have a seat. Therefore abolishing Islamic laws that they seem to want to impose on the world. Also a set of equal or bill of rights for all citizens involved in the U.N.
IIRC, there have only been two times that any significant military action has been performed under the UN Security Council's direction. The first was the Korean War and the only way that got through was because the Soviets were boycotting because the "wrong" China was in the UN. The other time was the 1991 Gulf War which was passed because Russia was in its immediate post-Soviet thrashing and Iraq was no longer considered its client state.
Don't expect anything useful to ever be done by the Security Council as long as the permanent members have vetoes, and don't expect anything good to happen to the US if we don't have a veto.
Just because the adults have a lot of kids doesn’t mean the kids get a vote.
