HARTFORD, Conn. -- Comments from bloggers that say, "Hartford is a piece-of-scum city populated by animals," and, "It is the African/ Latino people that have ruined our country,” are the kind that Mayor Eddie Perez said he no longer wants to see on www.hartford.com.
Perez and community leaders held a rally Friday afternoon in front of the Broad Street headquarters of the state's largest newspaper, the Hartford Courant.
Perez said he's asked the Courant to better monitor comment from readers

Pedestrians left to rot in the street after being struck by cars are still OK, however.

The mayor has every right to disagree with that opinion but he has no right to suppress it.
I don’t blame problems on racial and ethnic groups.
Frankly, the white kids were the rowdies at the bowling alley last night while the black and Puerto Rican people were well-behaved.
There are moral problems and crime problems that affect more black people than white people causing our prisons to have a big black population. The incaceration of large numbers of black people is about the crime they commit, not the color of their skin.
But they love hate speech if it's directed at Republicans.
I wonder how Eddie feels about “Bush lied, people died” or pictures of people burning the American flag on the website. I imagine he’d say those things are covered by the “freedom of speech” thing. The great thing about the First Amendment is that it makes it easier for us to identify the morons living among us.

It wasn't when I was born there... but since 1965, it got there in a hurry. I'd put the “scum-city” label on Hartford somewhere around 1972. Springfield, it's MA neighbor, has followed the same timeline... and may be even worse than Hartford.
As for Perez... he's just what the garbage want. These cities are DemocRAT, mini-NOLA's... just waiting for disaster.
Yes. I haven’t lived in Hartford, but I was in Connecticut for some time. The inner cities are just about as bad as they get, and Hartford is the worst.
Much of the state, especially Fairfield County and Hartford, is like a checkerboard, with slum cities alternativing with wealthy suburbs.
Hartford was finished off years ago by court-mandated busing in the public schools. Everyone who could afford to moved out of the city into the surrounding suburbs, leaving a cesspool behind.
We are to the point where we need to create zones where blacks can do anything they want. No cops, no whites....nothing. Then they won’t have anything to complain about. Let god sort them out.

This is not to say that white thugs are non existent but proportionally they are a tiny problem.
Crime stats are what they are. It's culture and what that culture tolerates and the rest of us endure the collateral effect.
It's time to quit being afraid to say so.
What happened in Hartford was not in a white neighborhood so qualifying with the canard that “whites are bad or maybe worse too” is just a kneejerk equivocation which is inaccurate and unnecessary....at least amongst conservatives who are supposed to honour empirical truths when they see it all around them.

Druggies had a specific zone where they could sell w/o harrassment from LE. Kept them away from the general population and got them off the street corners.
Well....if the mayor is sensitive about his city’s reputation, he can defend his community’s reputation by saying; “We are better than Bridgeport!; close enough to Danbury to shop at Stu Leonard’s; not as snobbish as Greenwich; have only the second worst streets in the state, and that gunfire you hear at night is unidentified so you can’t blame it on just one or two groups that are degrading our city! (smile)

What his honor the good mayor is really saying is that he won’t tolerate dissent. So long as the liberals insist on high-jacking our language, we have to require them to play by THEIR RULES.

But you are right, the MA cities are just as bad. Holyoke is one of the worst. The whole NE is so far left it is like a communist country in and of itself.
West Hartford is gorgeous and very prosperous.
The first Ammendment lets you have free speach.....if you are willing to be responsible for what you say. Yelling “Fire” comes to mind here.

That was my experience—though brief—as well; however, the suburbs aren't doing too well either. Worse, $4 gas is impoverishing them.

Isn’t that now called Zimbabwe? It worked out real well there.
On my home page of local news from my hometown I’ve challenged the local newspapers to tell us more about the victims of murder.
Their pictures, bios, etc.
They seem to have taken up my challenge.
Non-white people who are into drugs and crime often end up being the victims with fewer white people among the victims.
All that considering that 90 percent or more of the people in my area are white.
In an urban area like Hartford the situation is probably worse in regards to the stats.
The ugly truth is victims of crime and perps are disproportionately non-white.
Its not a reason to get angry about race as much as its a challenge to shut up the race-baiters who want to blame “racism” instead of the criminals.
Crime needs to be punished and attitudes need to change.
Family life needs to be restored and moral clarity needs to be restored to our society.
Public education and politicians have done squat to help.
The problems are spreading to other races with media and music conveying the hooker-criminal image.
Its really up to people themselves to say “no more” to this.
But just as long as we stop smoking cigarettes and eat foods without trans fat, the world will be a better place. My a**.

Not all of it. I lived on the Hartford/West Hartford border(The Boulevard) right next to Park Road(Park Street) back in the 70's. It was decent then... not now. Same thing could be said about West Springfield 20 years ago. Today, it's just a floodplain for Springfield crime.
I live in Lawrenceville, NJ, which has Princeton to the north, and the lovely city of Trenton on the south. The parts of my township that border Trenton are lower middle class, and despite their contrast with the rest of the township (upper middle class, with several large estates along 206 in my area bordering Princeton), are nowhere near as bad as when you cross to the other side of the Route One/206 circle into Trenton proper.
