Israel is reportedly attempting to block a $400 million arms deal between the United States and Lebanon that would reportedly include hundreds of anti-tank missiles.
Israeli authorities have stated that recent events in Lebanon, including Hezbollah's resurgence in the south, have led them to believe that the arms transfer could pose a security threat, namely if future clashes cause government forces to splinter, possibly causing the arms to fall into the hands of the Lebanese Shi'ite militia Hezbollah.
The Head of the Defense Ministry's Diplomatic-Security Bureau.Amos Gilad has reportedly held talks recently with officials from the Pentagon, in order to convey Israeli reservations about the deal.

For a country that supposedly supports Israel, why do we keep selling arms to her enemies?

Gee, why not just sell the weapons directly to Iran and cut ou the middleman?
To: doc1019
Because if we don’t it won’t look good? Or, something to that effect.

There is no Lebanese army. The weapons would simply fall into the hands of Hezbollah.

Doesn’t matter. Do what you want. We want to sell weapons to China & Russia too.

Often a question uppermost in my mind. When I ask this of my Jewish friends, their boiled down answer
the dems give us stuff (pork).

Hezbollah IS the unofficial Lebanese Army.
To: doc1019
Sad.. I thought it might be for a more noble reason, like wanting to side with those who appear to be the underdog.

A couple of months ago Israel was giving rifles to one of their enemies. The same ones they gave ambulances to.

I couldn’t care if Israel confiscates everything and gives it to the IDF. Just as long as they don’t harm Americans.

The situation in Lebanon is a real mess and part of the blame rests with our current Secretary of State. Is is just me or does anyone else out there think Condoleezza Rice is just about the worse Secretary of State in History? Maybe not as bad as Albright though. She gets a lot of publicity and she wears nice clothes and all but what accomplishments does she really have? I know that she has accomplishements in her own personnal life but this is different. I have it through the grapevine that her staff does all the work and she is really just a figure head. This IS NOT confirmed but from a fairly reliable source.
We in the United States have got to get out of the habit of picking people for key positions because of their race or gender. Foreign Policy is for too serious of a matter for this type of PC nonsense. I think the people in the Bush Administration picked her because they got a two for one deal, she is both black and female. This is not to say that a black or female could not be Secretary of State but that on balance Rice has not performed well and we should have the courage to acknowledge it.
