Where was God when the Floods of 2008 came? People rose up like the flood waters.

A young man got caught in the river's rage while trying to recover more of his folks belongings. He died in those merciless waters. At the rate the river was moving, it boggles the mind that his body could be recovered. Yet instead of being swept away, he was found relatively close by. God was hanging onto him for his family's sake.

Perfect strangers were driving up to people's houses and would just start loading belongings. No questions asked, just pitching in. Getting people and parts of their life to safety. God was the matchmaker, giving people that could help to people who needed it.

A middle aged man and an 80 year old neighbor braved rapidly moving flood waters to try and save calves. The cows and their calves were stranded and the cows, although they could swim, would not leave their calves behind. These two brave souls put their faith in God and rounded up the calves. They were put in the boat and the cows swam to safety following their young.

Also, God helps those who help themselves. Folks who chose - yes, chose - to do nothing are still waiting for big daddy gub’mint to provide a big giant teat to suckle.

I refer to an event that happened 3 years ago.

Luk 13:1 Now there were some present at that time who told Jesus about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mixed with their sacrifices.

Luk 13:2 Jesus answered, “Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans because they suffered this way?

Luk 13:3 I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish.

Luk 13:4 Or those eighteen who died when the tower in Siloam fell on them–do you think they were more guilty than all the others living in Jerusalem?

Luk 13:5 I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish.”

Blue Letter Bible.

A text we should all remember with fear and trembling in the face of tragedy.

And then there was this guy...

A farmer is in Iowa during a flood. The river is overflowing, with water surrounding the farmer’s home up to his front porch. As he is standing there, a boat comes up, The man in the boat says “Jump in, I’ll take you to safety.”

The farmer crosses his arms and says stubbornly, “Nope, I put my trust in God.”

The boat goes away. The water rises to the second floor. Another boat comes up, the man says to the farmer who is now in the second story window, “Jump in, I’ll save you.”

The farmer again says, “Nope, I put my trust in God.”

The boat goes away. Now the water is up to the roof. As The farmer stands on the roof, a helicopter comes over, and drops a ladder. The pilot yells down to the farmer “I’ll save you, climb the ladder.”

The farmer says “Nope, I put my trust in God.”

The helicopter goes away. The water comtinues to rise and sweeps the farmer off the roof. He drowns.

The farmer goes to heaven. God sees him and says “What are you doing here?”

The farmer says “I put my trust in you and you let me down.”

God says, “What do you mean, let you down? I sent you two boats and a helicopter!!!”

Probably telling someone to build a boat and gather up animals. I'll bet that guy wishes he'd listened.

Houses, propane tanks, livestock and much more have been found many many miles down river. I don’t believe God killed him. I believe the blessing was that God kept that body close and visible so that he could be found.

Grief is often easier for people to deal with when they have a body to bury. From that point of view, the situation is a blessing for the family.

“God is with us always. In good times, bad times and complete disasters. He lifts us up when we fall. He gives us hope when there seems to be none. He sends us to our neighbors and perfect strangers, so that we may be of help to them. He holds our grief when we ask Him to. He gives us his love and the understanding that we are not alone. Not in the raging waters, not in the rescue of animals, not in the heartbreak of not being with family in tragic times. He lets us know that He is everywhere.”

“Where was God when the flood of 2008 came? Why, He was right there. With each and every person that wanted Him by their side.”

Yes, those that WANT HIM will have Him.

I believe He uses these tragedies to call attention to HIM and to bring people TO HIM.

Imagine that ... people trusting in God to give them the strength to do what needs to be done, and then doing it ... and then some.

I firmly believe the Left’s arrogant disdain of ‘fly-over’ country is because of the independent ‘can do’ attitude exhibited by the inhabitants of that area. If they ever want help, they want a hand-up, not a hand-out. When our country was becoming the great nation it is today, the hard work and innovation of Central USA lead the way. Of course that was before there were ‘welfare queens’ created by the ‘Great Society’ and the ensuing multitudes of entitlement programs designed to splinter the family unit.

I better stop now ... gr-r-r-r.

Ask and you shall receive.

Unfortunately the only time most Americans use the Creator’s name, it is in vain. I would love to see using the Creator’s name in vain be considered a hate crime, especially for the hollywood types who can’t seem to write a line of dialog without it.

On a different note, but regarding the flooding - I’ve noticed that no one in the media has pointed out the fact that while the destruction from the flooding is sad, all that farm land just received a new layer of topsoil. RENEWAL! Look at the photos of the farms where the water has receded and it is obvious. A few years ago, a river flooded some farmland in my area. The following years there was bumper crops without the use of fertilizer, which I expect will be the case in the Midwest.

I got this email earlier today.

Subject: FW: Cedar Rapids and New Orleans

Make sure you read the quotes at the bottom of the page.

When N.O. flooded, it was a racist plan to wipe out black people.

Now that white people are getting flooded out, we need to investigate .. who?

I heard a dimwit on CNN yesterday say that this reminded him of New Orleans. How?

Outside of being flooded, there is no looting, no people wandering the streets looking for meanness, no grocery carts being shoved through the water carrying stolen big screen TVs, no people sitting on the tops of their houses waiting on the government to come and get them, no police abandoning their posts, no Iowans bitching how the government and George Bush is failing them. There is not one damn thing, other than water, that is similar to New Orleans.

The streets in Des Moines are empty. People left when they were told to evacuate. They didn’t whine, bitch or blame the government for the broken levees. They did what responsible people do in a crisis.

The actions of the people of Des Moines only makes the actions of the people of New Orleans look worse.

+++++++++++++++++++++++

“God grants liberty only to those who love it, and are prepared to guard and defend it.” Daniel Webster

“History does not entrust the care of freedom to the weak or timid.” Dwight D. Eisenhower

“People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.”
George Orwell

How about, “The helping hand of the Lord is usually found on the end of your own arm?

"Also, God helps those who help themselves. Folks who chose - yes, chose - to do nothing are still waiting for big daddy gub’mint to provide a big giant teat to suckle."

If you think that anyone can go through a catastrophic life changing event without getting some major help, you are very much mistaken. It looks as though Katrina taught FEMA a thing or two about being prepared. The Midwest is very lucky that they didn't have Brownie running things, because quite frankly he wasn't doing a heck of a job. Oh and BTW, you don't have the slightest idea as to what the hard working people of New Orleans are doing down here so you might want to rethink that foolish statement.

Some of the things that FEMA is already doing, and rightly so, for the victims of the Midwest floods,

FEMA’s Joint Field Offices are engaging with response partners to establish State/Federal Housing Solutions Task Forces.

These state-led task forces will design and implement event specific, comprehensive housing plans. A senior FEMA Individual Assistance Manager will coordinate task force activities at the national level and provide support on the ground. The task forces are working under the framework established in the 2008 Disaster Housing Plan that FEMA released earlier this month.

State-led task forces have already been established in Iowa, Indiana and Wisconsin and are meeting to review available housing options.

FEMA is leading a national task force that is meeting to coordinate federal support for any needed housing mission.

FEMA has received 28,122 registrations from individuals seeking assistance in Iowa, Indiana and Wisconsin.

More than $22.2 million in assistance has been provided to eligible individuals.

FEMA has deployed more than 500 inspectors across Iowa, Indiana and Wisconsin.

5,716 inspections have been completed;

22,825 inspections have been assigned.

Due to standing water, there are large pockets of inaccessible areas (approximately 46 percent of the inspection requests are in the Cedar Rapids area where residents are not currently accessible).

U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) SBA has begun providing loans to disaster victims.

In Iowa, SBA has already approved 34 loans totaling $3,119,100 million dollars.

Of those, 33 home disaster loans were approved for $3,114,100.

One Economic Injury Disaster Loan was approved to a small business for $5,000.

Well, personally I think all this is the beginning of Judgement on America. How long do you think we can spit in his eye with gay marriage, abortion, pornography (especially child porn), murder, every evil possible. He gave this country much and He gave us His grace. Look what has happened to it since 1963, when they took prayer out of school. Hang on, this is just the beginning. Next comes the economy...

Finally someone else has mentioned how hollywood abuses God’s holy name. Just last week I was watching the new show In Plain Sight and once again they abuses God’s holy name. That is the last time I will watch the show! I know that these writers do NOT have to disrespect God’s name for any creative reason, they just do it because everyone does it now. My daughter is a writer and just a month ago she told me she changed the wording in her script because of an email I sent out on hollywood’s abuse of God’s holy name,it seems she was going to do the same thing but changed the script because someone said they thought it was wrong. And more people have to speak out about this. Hey I have got into some interesting arguments over this. Some people get into a very bad habit of saying G D this and G D that and never think they are doing anything wrong!

He doesn’t “need attention”. He’s hoping to get the attention of non believers! He knows in advance who will be where. He has a date in mind for all of us.

If people chose to REJECT Him - that is their choice. Coerced love and obedience is NOT what He is looking for. There also comes a time, when it is too late ... . There is ample opportunity to turn to Him, by CHOICE.
