Iraq Questions Fair Game for McClellan?
By Bob Deans | Wednesday, June 18, 2008, 11:19 AM

Former White House spokesman Scott McClellan will likely face questions about the war in Iraq when he goes before the House Judiciary Committee on Friday.

That’s the word among aides helping members prepare for the high-profile, election-year hearing.

The hearing was set to focus on what McClellan knew - and didn’t know - about the roles of Karl Rove, Scooter Libby and other senior White House officials in the 2003 outing of former CIA agent Valerie Plame.

Once McClellan is sworn in, though, committee members are free to ask whatever they want.

“We’re hearing from (Democrats) that once McClellan sits down it’s not going to be about Plame, it’s going to be about Iraq,” said one Republican aide.

McClellan, who left the White House two years ago, returned to the media spotlight in May, with the publication of his memoir recounting the three years (2003-2006) he spent as press secretary to President Bush.

In his book, “What Happened: Inside the Bush White House and Washington’s Culture of Deception,” McClellan writes that “the Iraq war was not necessary” and charges that the administration “made a decision to turn away from candor and honesty when those qualities were most needed.”

Lines like those raise questions - especially in an election year.

Hey, this is Scott’s big moment... This is the pay-off for his 30 pieces of silver... The old stammering will be replaced by determined talking points developed by his Soros minders. Fellow travelers in the mainstream media will embrace every syllable. This will be the first “Bush spokesman” to get a respectful hearing on Capitol Hill.

God give us men. The time demands
Strong minds, great hearts, true faith, and willing hands;
Men whom the lust of office does not kill;
Men whom the spoils of office cannot buy;
Men who possess opinions and a will;
Men who have honor; men who will not lie;
Men who can stand before a demagogue
And dam his treacherous flatteries without winking;
Tall men, sun-crowned, who live above the fog
In public duty and in private thinking. — Josiah Gilbert Holland. 1819-1881

I wonder if any of those supposedly astute politicians will be even faintly conscious of the faint sucking sound after this little show trial that will signal the descent of the public approval ratings for Congress into negative numbers.

If anybody thought the traitorcrats jumped the shark with their little socialist rants about oil refineries, just wait until this crapathon limps to a halt.

Wouldn't it be sumptin if the McClellan that testifies is a relaxed, and confident McClellan? If that happens, one who has watched many a presser, will become very suspicious.....

Could someone please cut to the chase? I know Congress is busy wasting time and $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ as usual chasing butterflies and fairies instead of doing American business that NEEDS to be done. This kind of crap I don’t pay much attention to—in the long run, are they planning on indicting the President, so that by this time next year they can impeach him??

Oh, wait, he won’t be in office this time next year...gads, I wish we didn’t have to pay taxpayer dollars for these fiascos.

I would love to see a Bill introduced that stated that Congressional pay would be reduced equally among all Congressman to pay for time spent on crap like this. Congress is acting more and more like one big Judicial Body than spending time SOLVING some of the problems that they already created. With Congressional Approval Ratings in the teens and they pull crap like this?
