Want to beat Obama and the Democrats? It takes money, folks
Vanity | 6-19-08 | DesScorp

Posted on 06/19/2008 5:20:58 PM PDT by DesScorp

Lots of people are understandably fearful of Barack Obama winning the Presidency, even more than they're afraid of the Democrats stretching their lead in Congress. And some of you are also justifiably skeptical of John McCain.

Still, consider what an Obama adminstration would be like. We know he's the most liberal man since George McGovern to run for the office. We also know he'll readily lie about that to convince enough of the public to vote for him. So what can you do to help defeat him, even if you're not enthusiastic about McCain?

Money. Donate it. As much as you can, but even if it's just a little, it helps a lot. If the entire Conservosphere on the Internet donated ten bucks apiece, that would raise hundreds of millions for the election effort. McCain has been steadily (and it appears, honestly) moving to the right. He's a far, far better alternative to Obama. And considering the Supreme Court rulings of late, do you really want Barack Obama in the White House with a Democratic Congress?

Even if you can only give, say, 5 bucks a month until the election, give something. Help defeat Barack Obama. For the sake of your rights. For the sake of your prosperity. For the sake of your liberty. For the sake of all we've fought for in Afghanistan and Iraq. For the sake of our nation's security. For the sake of all the unborn children he'd help destroy. Do it for all our sakes.

Let the businesses that wanted the “sharecropper wage for working class Americans” illegal amnesty bill pay for McCain’s campaign.

I won’t give him, or any other politician that shilled for the amnesty scheme a penny.

Those people are backing Obama. They know that Obama + a Democratic Congress = Amnesty... guaranteed. McCain may not like the criticism he gets from people on the issue, but he's smart enough to know not to do it again.

Uhhh, no.

John McCain has insisted he doesn't need folks like me, so I'll just keep:
My money (my dirty conservative lucre, I'm sure it's nothing he'd want)
My time (not volunteering during this election cycle, a first in a very long time)
My bumper (no sticker)
My lawn (no sign)
My friends - though to be fair, none of them love McCain, either, so I don't have anyone to try to persuade this time.
My vote - he doesn't want it.

One of the things I learned working on the Bush 2004 campaign is that too much money is counter productive.

What can campaigns spend money on? There is the transportation and staff. Hotel and motel rooms for the candidate and staff. But just a hand full of millions will pay for a lot of plane and car rental as well as a lot of motel and hotel rooms and a lot of meals.

Most of the money is spent in the media on Radio and TV spots. Newspaper ads don’t work so campaigns spend zero on newspaper ads.

But in 2004 Kerry in the final weeks out spent Bush 3 to 1 on TV and Radio ads here in Ohio. But they did not work as Kerry expected. They ticked voters off. Every time you tuned in to a TV program there was one Kerry ad after another. In not too long a time you were hoping for the damned Kerry ads to end so you wouldn’t have to watch the ads over and over and over.

And voters that were ticked off at Kerry for his tons of ads did not vote for him. His tons of money just might have cost Kerry Ohio and the presidency. Rove made a conscious decision to let Kerry out spend Bush 3 to 1 on media buys in the final 3 weeks.

I think it worked.

The campaigns buy TV and Radio ads at the lowest commercial rate. They get them cheap. One thing I know is if a campaign has tons of money it will spend it. Usually on tons of ads .. and that is not a bright thing to do. People see the candidate over and over again on TV and think “I dont want to have four years of this crap.!!!!” So they don’t vote for him.

The media gets the TV ad money so they are constantly trying to get both campaigns to spend more on media advertising. But too much advertising just ticks people of. And ticked off people vote for the other candidate.

Then you'll never, ever be giving money then. Because you'll never get more than one out of three. We'll improve our borders, but never close them. This is still a free country. We'll encourage English, but never ban other tongues. We are deporting more illegals, many more in fact.

The perfect is the enemy of the good. Ponder that under President Obama and Justice Hillary Clinton of SCOTUS.

Significance of housing crisis on middle class economic ability to compete for influence with our political parties...this from a blog... Historically, ALL major bubbles have retraced to their origins, and, as Soros noted within the last week, overshoot for a while below the starting point and then recover to the starting point. Until proved otherwise, buyers not forced to buy for some reason should wait for that confirmed uptick of home appreciation that history says is necessary for any possibility of reasonable appreciation. The ‘falling knife’ of home depreciation has a long way to go, and should be viewed as a great risk.

At a time when policy makers propose that Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac proceed with 3-5% down to facilitate home sales, which only continues ‘subprime’ results as it is occurring during a falling market with no bottom in sight, a serious homebuyer should recognize that, with further home equity declines of just up to 10-15%, they will have long been permanently buried and possibly financially destroyed. It just seems screaming common sense to consider new home ownership as a non-starter as it seems to be a sure thing capital and financial trap.

With the value of all middle class homes being quoted as about $20 trillion, a mere 5% drop across the nation reduces middle class wealth by $1 trillion...e.g. a drop of 15% erases $3 trillion. Some analysts have projected $8 trillion in losses before bottom is reached...it could be more, it could be less. Considering that some analysts say a bottom will not be reached until 40-50% loss, the future is daunting.

In any event, this thing is so massive that the middle class may never recover in our lifetimes the home equity values they are going to lose in this evolving ‘L’ shaped recession. It is not possible to generate an economy that will provide real wage increases that result in recovered wealth or productivity for large numbers of people.

As money is necessary these days for any entity to achieve political effectiveness with our political parties, the middle class is going to lose such a mass of wealth as to significantly impair its representative powers on behalf of its own and the nation’s interest.

This aspect of the debacle has not been addressed yet by commentators, but it will in just a few years be a significant loss for the middle class and a relative empowerment of special interests. This wealth loss of the middle class should be detectable from the election of 2012 and onward.

In short, the housing debacle is going to be a prolonged one, a deep one, and one that threatens the ability of the middle class to represent itself financially in the maintenence of its own perceived freedoms. http://www.oftwominds.com/blogmay08/REcapital-trap.html

May as well give McCain some money....Who knows what taxes and redistribution schemes barack and company will come up with...Not to mention passing laws that will make you be potentially sued for everything you say or do...Then you won’t have money any at all. Sure you’ll get your conservative in 4 or 8 years, but by then you’ll be poor, and hoping for a socialist instead to “help you out” of poverty.

I got another request from my friend the Maverick, today, with a pre paid postage envelope.

I was nice. I told him I would give lots of money when he states that Alaska needs a good drilling. Then for good measure I added he needs to condemn McCain Feingold, demand Illegals aliens be arrested and secure the border. Then I will send money. No check in the mail...sooory. Looks like its working, hes now calling for drilling off the coast. By July he'll be demanding that illegals are drawn and quartered.

Sorry, but this isn't the school yard and you are not going to be able to bully anyone with churlish name calling and "ooooh, if you don't vote McCain the sky will fall."

If you think bullying and name-calling will suffice in the absence of a conservative candidate with fresh ideas and experience, you are sorely mistaken.
