You folks wouldn’t believe the fast food crap I can put down. At 6-feet tall and 180 pounds, it doesn’t show.
Sure seems to me. When she was diagnosed with diabetes type II her A1C’s were in the mid 8s. Think 8.7 was the highest. She tried the doctor recommended diabetes association diet and just wasn’t doing anything for her and her blood sugars were roller-coastering out of control.
Then she tried the Atkins diet and her blood sugars have been stable (maybe once a month it will jump to 125-150 because cheated and had cake) and her A1C has been in a continual downtrend since.
Doctor took her off her meds at 5.5 to see if the trend continued. Her A1C last checkup was 4.9. People keep telling her that her cholesterol will skyrocket and such but doctors haven’t seen it yet. Doctors keep using the term “amazing” to describe her progress.
She’s got more energy (she used to have to nap sometimes twice a day) and an odd benefit that we can’t figure out is that she doesn’t grind her teeth anymore at night either.
I then did a lot of reading and self-education. That led me to a very low carb, high fiber, high fat diet. My diet is very similar to the Adkins diet. My most recent A1C was 5.4. My cholesterol and blood pressure are VERY low. I exercise a lot.
My doctor now regards me as his poster child for Type 2 diabetes and is re-thinking his approach to treating diabetes.
A naked McDonald’s burger without the bun repulses me. If I am eating naked burgers, it won’t be from Mickey D’s.
High carbs can mess you over as well but maybe in a different way. Don't forget hard work is exercise and burns carbs off like a bat out of hades.
