Investigators struggled Tuesday to explain why a 27-year-old man with no criminal record and no apparent signs of mental illness savagely beat his toddler son to death on a dark country road.
Sergio Casian Aguiar, who worked at a supermarket in Turlock, was fatally shot by police Saturday night after he refused to stop attacking his 2-year-old son, according to the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department.
Aguiar's wife, Frances Liliana Casian, a kindergarten teacher, told detectives that she didn't know why Aguiar would brutally beat their child and said he didn't have any mental illness that she knew about, according to sheriff's spokesman, Royjindar Singh. Casian and Aguiar had been separated.
Results from toxicology tests to determine if Aguiar was drunk or on drugs are expected in about four weeks.
Detectives have been interviewing friends, neighbors and family members, but they still haven't found an explanation for the grisly killing, Singh said Tuesday.
"As of now, there's still no reason why he did this," Singh said. "Nobody said his behavior was strange at all. He was normal as far as they knew him."
Aguiar had immigrated from Mexico, and family members will be traveling from abroad to make funeral arrangements and meet with Stanislaus County investigators, Singh said.

According to a Modesto Bee article either today or yesterday, the perp is LEGAL.
That being said, it doesn’t matter to me at this point if he was or wasn’t. This incident happened down the road from us and I was having a great deal of difficulty emotionally about this little boy.
I do take GREAT comfort in knowing that the last thing that passed through that perp’s mind was a 9mm slug.
Well yes, it does matter. Ya see I know people that have been victims or their family members have been victims of very violent crime perpetrated by illegal aliens. Trust me, when people are involved at that level, they care deeply.

I have noticed when people really truly don’t understand the southern border issues- especially illegal immigration you usually find they live far, far, away from the Mexican border. I don’t understand that thinking- if they posted about an issue in their area- I would pay attention to their take on it and if I disagreed with then I would at least do some research to try to understand why they were so “obsessed” I wouldn’t just automatically attack them, but that’s just me.
Most areas of this country have issues with illegal immigration- from many countries. NY and other areas have a terrible problem with Chinese illegals but most of them don’t know it because the Chinese illegals are kept out of sight and treated as slaves. They are either unaware of the serious problems of illegal immigration or just don’t care- I am not sure which.

In nearby Frederick County, Maryland 3 men killed their entire family and then themselves. One hung his children and then called his wife to meet him at the location.
It’s more a situation of despair and desperation, IMO.
And Southern California doesn’t have the market cornered in that regard.

I don’t see any evidence that this poster is obsessed with illegal immigration- I am on nearly every thread that has to do with illegal immigration and issues of the Mexican border and I don’t recall seeing her post on those threads- she is certainly not a regular poster on the ones I read. So what led you to the conclusion that she is obsessed with the issue? It’s not ok to ask a question about an article?
I freely admit I am obsessed with the issue of illegal immigration, and proud of it. More people need to wake up and become obsessed with the issue if we hope to save our country. I live about 6 miles from the Mexican border, and the issues of the border are literally in my face every day. Smugglers set a trap intended to kill Border Patrol agents about 10 miles from my house on Friday and I am friends with many of the BP agents that were targeted. I have personally rescued many illegals that have been abandoned by smugglers to die. I could go on and on about how illegal immigration personally effects me, but somehow I doubt you are at all interested. I know the truth about the issues, and don’t get my info about the issue from the media. How far away from the Mexican border do you live?

I am saying that just because the man was Mexican doesn’t follow that he was in the country illegally. And to ask the question immediately...after posting another article on this horrific deed...with no other reference to the murder suggests there’s another agenda.

No ..... I think there’s something of a Zeitgeist far more potent than drugs at work here - although the SSRI’s and other psycho-active drugs are certainly enablers. It’s an easy way to remake the perpetrators into victims.

I was just curious due to the fact that you voiced concern on this thread about why someone would inquire if the suspect was an illegal alien, as a matter of fact you even went so far as suggesting the questioner was transparent and you accused them of putting a "slant" on it, merely by them asking a question. Did the poster have a hidden agenda as you suggested? And what would that be?
By you stating, bad stuff happens, clearly suggested illegals committing tens of thousands of violent crimes in this country is, just the way it is, and that, "bad stuff happens".
I take an SSRI every day. It allows me to lead a normal life. It probably KEPT me from killing my ex-husband. Sometimes evil is just evil. I and people in my circumstances do not appreciate being demonized by someone like you.

It was a legitimate question given that fact that region is very well known for people being in this country illegally.
