Yet another US Marine, Lt. Col. Jeffrey Chessani, had charges dropped Tuesday in the so-called Haditha massacre - bringing the total number of Marines who've been cleared or won case dismissals in the Iraq war incident to seven.
In Chessani's case, the military judge found that Gen. James Mattis had succumbed to impermissible outside meddling in bringing charges.
Bottom line: Zero for seven for military prosecutors, with one trial left to go.
But you won't see that headline in the same Armageddon-sized font The New York Times used repeatedly when the story first broke.
The Times, Rep. John Murtha (D-Pa) and the rest of the anti-war drum-pounders who fueled the smear campaign against the troops two years ago should hang their hands in shame. They won't, of course. Perpetuating the "cold-blooded Marines" narrative means never having to say you're sorry.
It means never having to look Lt. Col. Chessani (charges dismissed), Lt. Andrew Grayson (acquitted), Lance Cpl. Stephen Tatum (charges dismissed), Capt. Lucas McConnell (charges dismissed), Lance Cpl. Justin Sharratt (charges dismissed), Sgt. Sanick Dela Cruz (charges dismissed), Sgt. Frank Wuterich (awaiting trial) and their families in the eyes and apologize for the preemptive character assassination they all faced at the hands of the hyperventilating press.
Murtha and company applied "Off with their heads!" treatment to our own men and women in uniform while giving more benefit of the doubt to foreign terror suspects at Gitmo. It is worth recalling, because the press won't do it for you, what they concluded about the now-crumbling Haditha case in the summer of 2006, before a single formal charge had been filed.

Murtha will never apologize. Liberals never apologize. They just move on to the next lie.
There MUST be some legal recourse against Murtha. There IS character assassination, libel and slander going on here!!! He WAS completely irresponsible and reckless with their personal and professional futures and in his summary lack of regard for the reputation of the U.S. Military. It was almost gratuitous!
The most disturbing thing about all this is that Murtha should have known better, being former-military himself.
Bottom line… Murtha sold himself to the enemies of the US, inside and outside of the country. What his reasons were will be a mystery forever, unless you allow that he has overweening ambition and a pathological need for attention.
The further problem with all this is that Murtha is symptomatic of ALL public officials who grasp 2 pieces of a 4000 piece jug saw puzzle and run 100 miles an hour in the wrong direction with it … before all the FACTS (there’s that work again) are available.!!! How often have we seen this??? It frightens me how often and to what extent elected officials have shown so little common sense or self possession in issues demanding the utmost discernment. Are they malicious or just plum dumb???
Unfortunately I hail from Pennsylvania and that idiot Murtha is one of our many HACK POLITICIANS that put their own interest or Party interest, before America and its people.
Mr. Murtha will shut his fat mouth when Mr. Murtha is dead.

No mystery to me. Murtha is one of the most corrupt critters in office today. No doubt some Sorus type character did a little digging, got the dirt, and made Murtha an offer he could not refuse.

Why should he? He is too busy burglarizing the taxpayer with these earmarks to come down off of his cross to apologize.
The GOP should put out special ads against Murtha, Reid, Pelosi, Durbin, and others who smeared this Marine and the military in general. In fact, if the GOP had any guts in the House, they would put a censure resolution up for a vote. Now that would be fun. And the Mitch led GOP should do the same against every Dem Senator who smeared that Marine and the military in general.

I tried to contact Murtha’s office to demand that he make an apology to those American heros, but his mailbox was full. I guess Michelle Malkin posting the Senator’s number on her website will do that.

In the event that it has gone unnoticed, Murtha is the GOLDEN BOY of the PA Republicrat party. The head of the PA faux Republican party does his best to see that Murtha doesn't have an opponent, but if somebody decides to run without the fake Republican party's stamp of approval, the person receives no $ and no backing, or a court challenge to even being on the ballot.
There are so many things that the GOP could hammer the Rats on this cycle it’s astounding.
A relentless, coordinated rotation of issues from Iraq to energy against the Rats, would bury them.

Yes. Murtha has been contacted by many individuals asking for an apology. He needs to be contacted by many more and many times more. The pressure on him should never let up until proper remorse and recompense (for lost time and careers) has been shown.
And he should resign his Senate seat and retire.
General Mattis seems to be getting a free pass on this thread. Who and what influenced him, and why? Is he buddies with Wes Clark? Will he be brought up on charges? His career destroyed? Retirement perks denied?
I have been disgusted with the USMC itself over these charges. It’s a helluva recruiting tool ... showing young men that if they have the courage to sign up for the USMC their lives are not only put at risk, but their reputations as well.
That’s great they’ve got the video up and it’s there in total, nothing cut that I remember.
