PANJIM, JUNE 16 (Agencies) Manmade chemicals have damaged the ozone layer of the upper atmosphere that shields Earth from the harmful effects of the suns ultraviolet rays, each summer creating a hole over the South Pole that expands to nearly the size of Antarctica. But in 1996, an international treaty banned the chemical refrigerants and propellants (known as CFCs, or chlorofluorocarbons), and the hole has been shrinking. Scientists predict it may stop forming by the end of this century. But thats not necessarily good news. A new study published in Science says that the closing of the ozone hole may affect the flow of winds known as the westerlies around Antarctica, which impact everything from the extent of sea ice to the location of deserts in the Southern Hemisphere, and thereby accelerate global warming.

ozone hole shrinking? I see that as a problem, as my opinion is that the ozone hole is a chimney, allowing pollutants out of the atmosphere and out into space...
Ping!
Does that mean we should all start using spray-on deodorant again?
First an open ozone hole was bad... now a closed ozone hole is bad. Can’t these idiot scientists make up their minds?
Thank you, H.A.R.P.! Chemtrails don’t help, either.
Global Warming has become a null phrase to me. Therefore, I see no problem with the ozone hole closing.
Wow! For a second there I thought they were refering to one of my favorite bars.
To summarize:
There is a whole in the ozone - we are all going to die.
The whole in the ozone is closing - we are going all to to die.
Actually, my scientist brother tells me that all the sun spots have disappeared, which is a bad thing. He’s predicting global cooling, so get out your overcoats—LOL!
Now that's funny! :-)
I have been advocating this for years, assuming you really fall for the notion that CO2 presents the gravest danger to our existence. Easiest best solution. We can go back to having big hair and start to drive big trucks again.
Well, one thing is for sure. I won’t do any sunbathing in Antarctica any more.
“There’s absolutely nothing that anyone can do - or don’t do - that won’t f$#@ up everything”
That’s the idea. The left is very scary, here’s an example:
“Cant these idiot scientists make up their minds?”
They need to get their heads out of there own “ozone holes!”
More bad news about our environment.
It must be those damned Chinese Communists who haven't given up their aerosol sprays! No. Wait. It's something else isn't it?
Oh, I know. It's greenhouse gases.
(I think I'll go out and hug a tree or do something obscene to it.)
Someone was listening to Coast To Coast last night, right? :)
Thank you for posting the article.
Ozone is ‘formed’ by the solar wind impacting on the atmosphere, and the energy influx at the poles.
It won’t stop until the Sun quits shining.
AND, if you are going to have ‘holes’ in the ozone layer, what better place than above the frozen wastes of the Artic and Antartic, where the few creatures that live there have an extreme amount of built in protection from the harmful rays that come from the Sun.
God is pretty smart.
HOLE IN THE OZONE!!! WE’RE ALL GONNA DIE!!!
OZONE HOLE CLOSING!!! WE’RE ALL GONNA DIE!!!!
What must be observed by this “news”, is that the permanent psychological state of humanity must always be to wring its hands in despair over the future that humanity will always mess up. /sarc
Yet, what other part of nature (besides humanity) is conscious about all the other parts of nature, in and of the earth, and trying to monitor its own role, consciously, in something other than a survival of the fittest fashion - only humanity and nothing else.
So, what is the “natural” result of “nature”? It is the unseen hand of efficiency of resources played out by the total interplay of all elements of life seeking, independently, their own survival. Anyone who thinks this balance is due to some natural altruism in nature, outside of humanity, is simply anthropomorphizing all of nature in one sweep.
My bowling score accelerates global warming.
These are the same Crack-Pots that brought us Global Warming!
Real the following from NASA and NOAA in 2006!!!:
NASA and NOAA Announce Ozone Hole is a Double Record Breaker...
From September 21-30, 2006 the average area of the ozone hole was the largest ever observed, at 10.6 million square miles. This image, from Sept. 24, the Antarctic ozone hole was equal to the record single-day largest area of 11.4 million square miles, reached on Sept. 9, 2000. ...
“From September 21 to 30, the average area of the ozone hole was the largest ever observed, at 10.6 million square miles,” said Paul Newman, atmospheric scientist at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, Greenbelt, Md....

We should dig out all those cans of R-12 that we hoarded back in the 90’s and use them for target practice. Two birds, one stone, and all that.
Ozone hole is closing, but it is not good news. The reason why is that didn’t get ENOUGH $$$ from the GOVERNMENT to see how they can tax us to close it. :)
I’ve read that the new veggie based propellent has caused anaphylexis shock in some users.
The largest ozone hole ever measured occured in 2006.
The hole’s not closing. The volcanoes provide the material and the cold temperatures help the holes form.
The antarctic temperature in 2006 was 9 degrees below normal.
No. They need planet threatening crises on which to base their requests for government grants.
WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE!
Unless Prof. xyz gets his grant, the larger the better.
Of course it isn’t good news; its impossible to have good news when there’s a Republican in the White House.
Scientists have never had anything to do with this nonsense.
You mean HAARP?
That’s a submarine communications system that the leftists would love to shut down. Hardly a patriotic position to take.
Did they say how we are supposed to keep the hole exactly the same? This seems to be our only hope. Does anybody know how? Prayers up; please o please keep the ozone hole the same! I did my part.
Global warming is good for the biosphere. Abundant life and species.
Ice ages are bad with mass die offs and misery.
Since we are sitting between ice ages with the next one looming in the future, we should be doing all we can to warm things up.
As was someone else, too, huh? Yes, but I suspected H.A.R.P. long before last night. :)
bump for later
I think we are talking about two different HARPS, ed.
Years ago I read “Angels Don’t Play this HARP”. It was (is) used to modify the weather.
The ozone hole already existed when it was first noticed.
It is HAARP and it is used for research into the ionosphere and the aurora. It is not used to control weather. It is suspected of being many things, but it is none of those things.
.
Nicely done:-) Two thumbs up for your rhyme scheme!
Nick Begitch Jr. is a charletan. He calls himself Dr. Begich, because a leftist mail-order degree mill awarded him an "honorary" PhD. He's just like his father, who had one of the most despicable records in congress.
Guilty as charged! I find it often fun listening as I’m falling asleep...
Always lookin’ on the bright side, these people are.
Yes, you may die, but if all this green crap saves just one aboriginal tribe, then its worth it. /s
Soon to be known as the "Pollution Induced Pucker effect".........
I’d rather have global warming: my garden grows!
