Fact is the insane have been executed for centuries. Your BS mens rae was swept aside and justice was rendered. And that my friend is the difference between theory and practice

My only problem is not ignoring mens rea the way it used to be.

I have no problem with understanding intent for lesser crimes. But for serious bodily injury and killings .... I could care less what the perpetrator’s state of mind was

Say some retarded punk mugs your 84 year old father, puts him in a wheelchair where he needs constant medical attention. Will you really care about mens rae? I sure won’t. I’ll want death for the punk or life in prison. These days such punks get short sentences because “intent” is taken too much into account.

You didn't look anything up. Why am I not surprised. Enjoy your ignorance.

By all means do rattle on! Fact is the insane and the retarded have been executed for murder for centuries. You just can’t deal with the way things really come down. As opposed to idiotic in extremis doctrines. Which need to be given much less weight in murder trials

As I said. For petty crimes mens rea isn’t so bad. Not so for murder and serious assaults bodily injury

“James Hadfield” .... LOL
So what. In the real world of commoners this was the exception. Punishment was severe back then and I’m positive idiots and the deranged got hanged along with all the others

Ah yes, your opinion matters more than 300+ years of legal precedent. I'm positively chagrined

As if that royal precedent you cite was widely applied. You have a touchingly innocent faith in the legal systems of 225 years ago

See you later katsu

Uuuum... huked un fonix wurked fur u? The shooter *was a commoner* the target was the king. Don't worry there's only 100's of other cases for you to not understand. That one's a little important because *it standardized the commitment of insane criminals*, after all guys that take shots at the king can't be allowed on the streets. That's kind of important.

Executions are for the protection of society; regardless of the sanity of the criminal. Elimenate the threat.

Recycled rope without notice or fanfare is an honors society.

Disemboweled with a bamboo sword, I hope!

I read one article that said the government does not talk about how it executes prisoners (which I think is a GREAT psychological deterrent in and of itself), but hanging is traditional.

Thanks, Ketsu, for the interesting reply. I agree that something done moderately might be good but things done in extremes can be pathological. It is hard to seek balance when society demands that one be unbalanced.
