Barack Obama’s Nagging Electability Problem
proteinwisdom.com & washingtonpost.com ^ | June 15, 2008 | Karl

Posted on 06/15/2008 12:23:43 PM PDT by Free ThinkerNY

It starts in his home state of Illinois, as Alec MacGillis reports for the Washington Post:

Obama’s advisers have pointed to his success in winning over “downstate” Illinoisans as a sign of his electability, but political analysts question the claim. Obama lost most of downstate Illinois in his Democratic primary race for U.S. Senate in 2004, and his big win in the general election that year came against Alan Keyes, a black conservative with a Maryland address. In this year’s presidential primary, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) beat Obama in southern Illinois’ struggling coal counties, highlighting the same weakness he showed in the coal regions of West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Kentucky.

“He certainly has shown a good amount of reach into downstate and southern Illinois, but . . . it has been overstated,” said Michael Lawrence, director of the Paul Simon Public Policy Institute at Southern Illinois University.

To the extent that Obama has penetrated downstate, said Chris Mooney, a political scientist at the University of Illinois at Springfield, it has been partly a result of his constituent service, a tool he lacks in the presidential campaign. “He was thinking Illinois from Day One” in Washington, Mooney said. “He has the classic attention to detail of a Chicago politician, the idea that ‘we gotta get ours.’”

That sounds more like Old Politics than Change We Can Believe In.

Or maybe he’s just a ‘typical’ Chicago politician…

Funny, I just got off the phone with my dad — a staunch Democrat. I asked who he would vote for now — he can’t bring himself to vote for McCain but won’t vote for Obama (said he’s gonna write Hillary in as a protest vote).

Sounds groovy.

Hopefully he and countless other democrats will refuse to vote for Obama in November.

That way, our Republic might still have a chance.

With Obama, Pelosi, Reid and the rest of that sorry lot running the government, the damage will be irreversible.

THE AUDACITY OF TRUTH ABOUT BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA

(I was going to post this on another thread, one that was about his brother Malik identifying Obama as a Muslim, but that thread for some reason was pulled):

Muslims lie. It’s called “kitman” in the Koran, and you can see agressive forms of it in daily life in any marketplace in the Middle East or North Africa.
Obama writes that he resolved his childhood identity crisis by admiring his father (according to his book), who practiced a faith that endorses lying.

That would explain Obama’s practice of using speeches as a means to gain power, and that would also explain Obama’s “not knowing” of unpopular or corrupt actions among his “tribe” (Tony Rezko, Reverend Wright, and by extension his Nation of Islam supporters).

Evidence for this, is Obama’s aversion to direct criticism of his acts (when have you seen an Islamist gracefully admit to having done something wrong)?

Obama can claim to be of any faith, but his actions speak of a dominant Muslim influence. And Islamism is the same enemy we have been fighting since 9/11, on 2 fronts. The challenge is to educate enough fellow voters, to listen beyond his rhetoric and see this for themselves.

From today’s New York Times
(End of this Sunday’s article):

Mr. Obama sprinkled his roughly 30-minute address with some moments of levity. When he asked Mrs. Obama why Mother’s Day produces so much more “hoopla” than Father’s Day, he said, she reminded him of his special status.

“She said, ‘Let me tell you, every day is Father’s Day,’ ” he said. “ ‘Every day you’re getting away with something. You’re running for president.’ ”

The Islamic principle of lying for the sake of Allah. Falsehoods told to prevent denigration of Islam, to protect oneself, or to promote the cause of Islam are sanctioned by the Qur'an, including lying under penalty of perjury in testimony before the United States Congress, lying or making distorted statements to the media such as claiming that Islam is a religion of peace, and deceiving fellow Muslims when the one lying has deemed them to be apostates.

Obama's ardent followers are not swayed by logic, reason, or truth regardless of his positions, his gaffes, his past, or his associations. To them he is an idol.

Nothing you can say or do will convince these people otherwise...

Because I am the one they and I have been waiting for...and I am lovin' it.

Those wild-eyed people represent the millions of Americans raised in the government day-care and indoctrination centers we call public schools who did not have, or would not listen to, parents and others who tried to counterweight the propaganda they heard at school...who have been raised on 60 second sound bite time spans and know no better.

You have other tens of millions on the dole who will vote for him regardless of position because he promises to keep pilfering the public largess for them.

Still othes of millions will vote for him simply because he is black, not caring to hear or look at his actual positions.

Other millions will vote for him because they know exactly who he is and what he represents and agree with his anti-American positions.

The first three are all what is termed, useful idiots, a term coined by Lennin for the dupes he got to support him.

Against this it is left to us to educate, arouse, and amass the tens of millions of Americans, of all races and creeds, who understand and hold fast to the foundational principles our constitutional republic rests upon...many of them the bitter, rural Americans clinging to their guns and religion that Obama so arrogantly spoke of.

Finally, understand that this is not the first time in history that rock-star, messianic status has been conferred on a populist, charismatic individual in order to hand them the reigns of power. Although there are many critical differences, still it is important when you consider the danger that this candidate poses to American foreign policy, our economy, our social fabric, and to the war we are fighting against fanatical Islamic Jihad terrorists, to note the following comparison:

A populsitic, charismatic, self-serving individual has a way of mesmerizing foolish people looking for an idol...then and now.

Barack Hussein Obama is the apex of the hate-America, domestic enemy in this country. His election as president would be the greatest coup any enemy has ever scored against this country and could easily lead to the worst, horrific disaster in our nation's history.

With Obama, Pelosi, Reid and the rest of that sorry lot running the government, the damage will be irreversible.

You could have said that about Salvador Allende. You could have said that about Sukarno and the 30 September movement.

In both cases, you would have been wrong.

The Left is really feeling its oats now, but they are very, very close to pushing too far.

Either there will be a political solution (quite likely, IMO), or there will be a nonpolitical one.

A JFK quote, which has been used by the Left incessantly, makes the point:

"Those who make peaceful change impossible make violent change inevitable".

The Left has been busy, lo these 40-50 years, to impose their vision on society through control of the media, the courts, and the schools. Despite clear and convincing evidence of the will of the people, on the school prayer front, the abortion front, the international "law" front, the crimalien "rights" front, and now (I fear) on the Second Amendment front, they have made peaceful change impossible.

If Obama is elected, and if the inevitable Chavezista power grab follows, then the result will be entirely predictable.

Far from irreversible, the damage will all be undone, at one fell swoop, and the Republic will be restored.

Be of good cheer. The Leftist move to seize ultimate power through their control of the means of public information is doomed to fail.

To use another two more of their favorite lines, we shall overcome.

By any means necessary.

What are you getting at? Are you saying that Soeharto reversed everything that Soekarno did? At the end, it was Soekarno's daughter who helped forcing Soeharto to step down. Hoping the worst so that something good might come out of it is a very risky strategy. We need to look at each event independently and what costs might the worst inflict on us.

I don't hope for the worst, and in fact I think it is very, very unlikely that Obama will be elected.

All I'm saying is that the hard Left will not prevail in the end, no matter what.

Just had dinner with a retired IMF guy. He is a fair distance to the left of me on a few issues. After about the 3rd glass of wine he asked me what I thought of Obama. I responded that he seemed a little out of touch with the real world. His response was and I quote, “No way would I vote for him. he is an empty shirt who gives a beautiful prepared speech.” There you have it! Not even a member of the center left in Chile would come close to Obama!

THEN THERE IS THE PATRIOTIC SERVICE GAP:

McCain’s son are serving the military overseas right now. His son is serving in Iraq, and McCain visited him last Thanksgiving, but McCain has not sought any publicity over it but kept quiet about it. it wasnt even public until press uncovered it in April. See: http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/mccains-19yearold-son-does-a-prince-harry-in-iraq-805406.html

On Iraq, it will take a POW who knows the horror of war and who has served and whose father and whose sons are serving to do the right thing for our national security there. McCain has been right on Iraq all along.
Democrats cannot let history record a success in Iraq and are hellbent on failure there and tagging Bush with it. They will bug out prematurely or they will break their promises of premature withdrawal and muddle poorly through. McCain’s consistent stand is far superior.

I really don't wish the US to have a Soeharto-lite president. Yes, he brought prosperity but at the expense of the Chinese, his political opponents, and many others. While I don't like the liberals or the socialists, it doesn't mean I want a million of them found floating in Mississippi River or Michigan Lake. I was talking more about how difficult it is to reverse policies such as entitlement policies once they are established.
