Hands down, Joe Arpaio is the toughest sheriff in America. And although he is most well-known for his tough treatment of prisoners, Arpaio has over 30 years experience with different federal drug enforcement agencies, and, as the former head of border and drug enforcement in Texas and Arizona, he is one of the countrys leading experts on how to shut down illegal immigration and cross-border drug trafficking.
His is a hard-core, no-frills approach to incarceration, with 10,000 Maricopa County, Ariz., prisoners held in old Army surplus tents, fed on bologna sandwiches, and clothed in black-and-white striped, old-style prison uniforms and pink underwear.
His prisoners have worked on chain gangs, and they are forbidden fancy gyms, cigarettes, entertaining television and even salt and pepper.
Although prisoners would not agree, Arpaio, 76, has become an American folk hero of penology.
His new book, Joe's Law: America's Toughest Sheriff Takes on Illegal Immigration, Drugs and Everything Else That Threatens America, co-authored with Len Sherman, presents a bold new approach to finally, once and for all, shutting down Americas borders to criminal Mexican people-smugglers, fence-jumpers and drug peddlers.

EVERY sheriff should read his book(s)!
Newsmax: What would you do with the illegals?
Arpaio: I would erect tent jails right on the border, and courts convict and jail them for six months. You cant work and send money back to your loved ones if youre in jail. That will take away a lot of their incentive for illegally entering the U.S.
It’s no wonder the Liberals have tried so hard to destroy him.
He makes WAY too much sense to be allowed to continue upholding our laws
Sheriff Joe for POTUS...head and shoulders above the Boobs we have running now !!
So does Bush. So does McCain. So does the U.S. Congress. And that's the scariest thing about the Open Border/Illegal Immigration problem: everybody knows how to do it, but our political leaders lack the will to enforce U.S. laws. That's decadence.
.....and a violation of their oath of office.
That’s my boy
Like Gitmo terrorists. Let’s give them to the good sheriff while they await their trials in court.
Joe Arpaio is a hero. And I hope he is always wearing a bulletproof vest, and that he is very very careful. Because there must be a lot of people who would like to see him dead. God bless him and keep him.
I like Joe Arpaio. He is absolutely great.
I also like Sherrif Grady Judd from Florida’s Polk County.
My favorite quote from Judd is that “criminals hide under the cover of free speech.”
I asked a local Shetriff deputy if they could use Joe’s method’s. He said, “The politicians woudn’t let us.”.
Spelling! SHERIFF! WOULDN”T!
Makes me look ignorant. Some people already think I am.
Joe Arpaio experiments. And typically, when you experiment, there are at least as many failures as successes. It’s just part of the deal. However, experiments don’t accomplish a heck of a lot if it is just *you* doing them. If nobody else is following up on your successes.
And Arpaio has had some notable successes that *should* be followed up on by other Sheriffs. By far, the #1 success is the tent city jail idea.
That is, by *international* standards, military field conditions DO NOT violate human rights standards. But on top of that, they save huge amounts of money compared to brick prisons, they eliminate overcrowding in prisons, and they can be erected quickly, within a few days, and just about anywhere.
So why are Sheriffs across the country not adopting this method of incarceration?
This model should be mentioned every time there is a problem with a County budget, *and* whenever there is a problem with prison overcrowding. And both of these problems exist all over the United States.
Right now, next door to Arizona is California, with bulging prisons and budget deficits. And California also has enormous tracts of empty land that would be idea for tent city prisons.
Problems solved. If only they would consider it.
God bless the man!
But don't you know that it is unbelieveable cruelty NOT to treat prisoners FAR better than we treat the defenders of our country? What kind of citizen are you? Humph!!!
Actually, all the usually sanctimonious foreign powers are very clear about not wanting their soldiers classed as living in “inhumane” circumstances. So treaties are full of iron clad assurances that you can kick the snot out of your soldiers if you want to, and it is perfectly fine.
At the same time, they are utterly smarmy about brick prison conditions. So if you put your prisoners in tent cities, you get over.
ping
My man JOE!!
I wonder how many of them vote.
