Flag Day Is Every Day For These O.C. Residents (CA)

Since 1969, a U.S. flag has been flying high on a tall pole in front of the Mitchell family home in Brea.

"It's been up there every day," says Jane Mitchell, 73. "Except for a week when a storm brought down the pole and we had to replace it."

Flag Day is Saturday, but many Orange County residents choose to display their pride every day of the year by decorating their homes with a flag.

Charles and Rosemary Kissel display up to 13 flags at a time at their Anaheim home. The couple has a collection of about 300 U.S. flags from various historical periods, which they display throughout the year on holidays or historically significant dates like a state’s birthday.

Edson Espinoza, an 18-year-old Santa Ana resident, says that he appreciates the freedom this country gives its citizens and that’s why his house is adorned with a U.S. flag.

“It represents the country where I was born,” he says. “We’re proud of this country.”

Thanks for the post! Our flag flies both night and day as well ( lit up at night, of course!). We fly the navy flag below it. :-)

Our flag flies every day on the front of our house. We even received a letter from a local celeb acknowledging they had seen it and we were one of the few in town. We also have both military flags from our dad’s funerals in flag cases on the wall in our home office, along with a framed copy of the Constitution and many eagle statuettes (some holding flags), and various other things.

Got to get my dad’s flag in a case as well. Was going to do it a few years ago, and forgot. Thanks for the reminder!

We fly the navy flag below it

Ours is on the opposite side...the neighbors have the Marine flag...so we look like an embassy next to each other.
