Gov't to Pastor: Renounce Faith!
worldnetdaily.com ^ | June 09, 2008 | staff

Posted on 06/09/2008 8:26:35 PM PDT by kellynla

The Canadian government has ordered a Christian pastor to renounce his faith and never again express moral opposition to homosexuality, according to a new report.

In a decision handed down just days ago in the penalty phase of the quasi-judicial proceedings run by the Alberta Human Rights Tribunal, evangelical pastor Stephen Boisson was banned from expressing his biblical perspective of homosexuality and ordered to pay $5,000 for "damages for pain and suffering" as well as apologize to the activist who complained of being hurt.

According to a report from Pete Vere at the Catholic Exchange, the penalty could foreshadow the possible fate of Father Alphonse de Valk, who also has cited the biblical perspective on homosexuality in the nation's debate over same-sex "marriage" and now faces HRC charges.

Boisson had written a letter to the editor of his local Red Deer newspaper in 2002 denouncing the advance of homosexual activism as "wicked" and stating: "Children as young as five and six years of age are being subjected to psychologically and physiologically damaging pro-homosexual literature and guidance in the public school system; all under the fraudulent guise of equal rights."

Ah yes, the Cromwell solution.
They need an organization so defend and appeal these rulings. I would contribute.
Otherwise..they need to seek asylum in the US where we still have the right of free speach if we can keep it.

This is insane. In an amazingly ironic way, the Canadian gov’t is indirectly insulting those gay people who have been victims of ACTUAL hate crimes, such as being stabbed to death just for being gay. Simply stating a belief about the topic is totally not the same thing.

Apparently, free speech is the new hate crime. Life is getting more Orwellian every day.

Hopefully the term "Canadian Government" though technically correct shall be considered misleading. The legacy of the Liberal Party of Canada is to be considered.

Before he came to minority power Stephen Harper, Canadian Prime Minister decried the law that was being used to end free speech.

If Harper gets a majority government, we may see some action. Until then we should all be well aware of Orwell's nightmare scenario. It is here.

Easy for me to say, but I hope if I was in his position I’d force the state to use its entire enforcement power. Make them lock up a pastor for commenting on his religious faith.

Possibly that won’t cause an uproar in Canada, but it sure would here.

your loss...but then ignorance is bliss now isn't it.

WorldNetDaily would do a lot more to relieve ignorance if they even attempted to maintain reasonable journalistic standards. I read stories like this, and they certainly seem outrageous, but it's hard to know how much to believe.

For instance, the article provides no support for the claim that the pastor was ordered to "renouce his faith." Yes, he was ordered to stop preaching against homosexuality, but this really is not the same thing. The decision to sensationalize the writing (as if such blatant limits of free speech in Canada are not serious enough by themselves) seriously damages the article's credibility.

He was also ordered to issue and publish a written apology for the contents of his letter, despite the court;s admission that the plaintiff had not been directly harmed. Read the decision, which is posted here:

The Panel does find that Dr. Lund, although not a direct victim, did expend considerable time and energy and suffered ridicule and harassment as a result of his complaint.

That is because Dr. Lund's complaint has allowed the public to realize that he is, without question, a freedom-hating faggot.

Canada has strayed far from the common law if they allow damages of this sort.

Neither the Soviet Union nor China ever forced Christians to renounce their views about homosexuality. The Alberta Human Rights Commission has taken the Diversity Gestapo's suppression of dissenting views to a whole new levels in the annals of human infamy.

So what’s going to happen when some Canadian Muslim Iman denounces gays — and then sues the Canadian Human Rights commission for engaging in a hate crime when it denounces him?

This is becoming too weird for human comprehension!

He should neither apologize nor pay the fine. If the government wants to lock him up for his views, that's definitely to be preferred. To submit is to allow one's soul to be raped by the state. Let them rape the body instead.

I agree, but it just goes to show how bizarre the leftist ability to ‘doublethink’ anything is.

Christianity is always bad, Muslims are always persecuted, even though it’s the Muslims who have the habit of stringing gays up from cranes, pushing down walls on them, shooting women in the head for adultery - mostly UNPROVEN adultery...

and then of course there are the “honor killings”...

The opening line of the story is a lie so the credibility of the rest of the article is questionable. It wasn’t the “Canadian Government” that made the order, it was the Alberta Human Rights Tribunal, an agency of the Province of Alberta. The pastor can appeal the ruling to a REAL court and has a good chance of winning.
