I've never seen so much corn growing in fields around here before...it looks like it's almost time to harvest it too.

There use to be a time when country folks could pull off to the side of the road by a cornfeild and grab a couple of free ones.
I’m guessing that would be a felony nowdays.

Oregon made exceptions for aviation, marine and small engines to its ethanol mandate in gasoline. I can now drive 30 miles and pay 50 cents more per gallon to get “real” gasoline.

This is a corny story and I’m not going to give ear to it nor put any stalk in it.

The “National Ethanol Vehicle Coalition” says.... yeah, we can trust them not to be biased. It’s just a mighty big coincidence that corn futures are at historic highs beginning at the same time that Congress mandated billions of gallons of ethanol from that same corn. Oh, and a global famine also coincidentally happened starting at the same time - but yet those three things are all caused by a drought in Australia.

I figure people have got to decrease their dependence on others to feed them, so I started a garden. I got one tomato and one banana pepper. The few stalks of corn didn't make it either. Sigh...back to the drawing board.
Good news though...I just got back from Walmart and milk is down to 3 something a gallon now. Awhile back it was over 5.

More misery from this ethanol scam!!

(Yet again....) Pork tamales with masa de maize, and homegrown/homeroasted/toasted and ground chili powder as the main flavoring ingredient.
Say what you want about Mexico and Italy.... Poverty food tastes good.
Waiting on the Roma tomatoes and basil out of the garden before the August pizza season and October beer season.

"I will not make my customers pay moreat least not for now," said Francisco Barriga, the owner of a tortilla factory in the border town of Reynosa, near McAllen, Texas. I visited a tortilla factory back there in the 80's. I wonder if it could be the same one. Interesting.
