War On Terror Ends?
Human Events.com ^ | June 4, 2008 | Robert Spencer

Posted on 06/04/2008 9:53:42 PM PDT by PROCON

Good news: the war on terror is over! Charles Allen, the Department of Homeland Security’s senior intelligence official, said last week that American officials should stop calling this conflict we’re in a “war on terror,” far less the president’s term, the “global war on terror.”

Why? Because it offends Muslims, of course. When they hear “terror,” you see, this hurts the feelings of peaceful non-terrorist Muslims. “[It] has nothing to do with political correctness,” insisted Allen, straining credulity well past the breaking point. “It is interpreted in the Muslim world as a war on Islam and we don’t need this.”

Why on earth would they get the idea that a “war on terror” equals a “war on Islam,” when President Bush has gone out of his way to say things like this: “The face of terror is not the true faith of Islam. That’s not what Islam is all about. Islam is peace.” Homeland Security Department spokesman Russ Knocke explained: “We are at war with terrorism, and its underlying ideology -- not Islam -- and we’ve gone out of our way to make that point. In truth, war has been declared upon us.” But who has declared war against us? Of course, it wasn’t generic terrorists, or the IRA or the Tamil Tigers. Rather, it was Muslims who quote the Qur’an and the example of Muhammad to justify waging war against unbelievers.

And that is the biggest problem in how the Bush administration has behaved since 9-11, and in what the DHS people did last week. Unless we clearly and directly label the terrorists, their ideology and the nations that sponsor them correctly -- in terms of their Islamic roots -- how can we defeat them and their ideology?

If they are interpreting terror for islam....then it is their fricken’ problem...or the truth hurts, one or the other.

Most Americans lost interest in whether we win or lose long ago, and would just like to lose as quickly as possible. If Obama is our next president, this war will go down as a forfeit.

Hmmm I don't care if they are offended . My mother used to say if you lay down with dogs you get fleas. Maybe the peaceful Muslims ought to do more to make sure that their terrorist relatives stop being terrorists. Or speak up against them. I am just sick of somebody always being offended! I get offended often & I don't whine all that much....I just deal with it. I am sick of political correctness. It is ruining us IMHO.

I agree, we need to stop beating around the bush and just call it the war on islam. That’s what it is, and I think about everyone knows this.

"Islam", unfortunately, is hybrid. It's half religion, half totalitarian political movement.

I don't care if people want to believe that Mohammed is the last prophet, and that he once took a magical overnight journey to Jerusalem on a flying horse. Whatever floats your boat. Pick any religion, and they believe something equally preposterous.

My problem is that the Koran is a users manual for conquest, the division of spoils, the enslavement of conquered peoples, and widely accepted as the mandatory blueprint for a perfect society. "Moderate Muslims" don't have a theological leg to stand on in resisting the fundamentalists, which is why there will be no Reformation of Islam until it is forced upon them. Christianity didn't just get bored with ruling Europe, any more than the emperor Hirohito got bored being god of Japan.

Islam is specifically designed for conquest. Its tenants are flexible enough to deal with the occasional setback. It's also designed to win more than it loses, and to keep an iron grip on whatever it plants a flag on.

That half of Islam must eventually be destroyed.

Just like any other totalitarian form of government, it can't be peacefully uninstalled or voted out of office. It is incompatible with Western freedom and liberty. Witness what is going on in Europe today. Our two ways of life cannot coexist.

Islam is required to wage jihad on all parts of the earth NOT under Sharia law...all jihad against all non-muslims is related to this mandate by their Allah, which, by the way is NOT identical to the God of us Christians and Jews. Islam has been at war with the whole world for 1400 years. Suddenly proclaiming it null and void with lexicon changes by US govt. officials is beyond the realm of sanity of government. One cannot communicate with Islam if not using their terms, which are not subject to lexicon change from the original Arabic...in ‘negotiations’ with Islamists, calling their jihad ‘bad acting’, and their jihadists ‘bad actors’ is not going to get us very far. Islamists know this, we apparently do not. Too bad for our side. The self-delusion of our institutional ‘intellectual’ ‘professionals’ is beyond normal belief, and has entered the realm of institutionalized delusional psychosis. Liberalism knows no bounds of creating its own reality not recognizint that accountability is going to take its obligatory toll.

Well, I'd have to agree with Mr. Allen. "War on Terror" does sound stupid. It's just not specific enough. It could just as well be "War on Evil".

I propose we start calling it the War on Political Islam. Or War on Islamism, for short. And we can call our enemies Sand Nazis, thereby labeling their ideology correctly and insulting them at the same time.

This is incoherent.

If so many Muslims are so sure that Islam has nothing to do with terrorism then how could a “War on Terror” possibly have anything to do with Islam????

Ther are inadvertently revealing that they know veyr well how closely terror and Islam are associated, and that is why the phrase “War on Terror” is so uncomfortable for them

“Pick any religion, and they believe something equally preposterous.”

Islam is the ONLY major religion whose “holy” book advocates the slaughter of ALL non-believers - Mohammed gave a mandate that they be given a call to A) convert or B) submit or C) DIE.

Islam is both a religious idealogy and a political movement - it’s the only major world religion that allows NO distinction between church and state - the church IS the state and vice versa.

Better yet, he calls them out by name...

"This struggle is waged with the technology of the 21st century, but at its core it is an ancient battle between good and evil. The killers claim the mantle of Islam, but they are not religious men. No one who prays to the God of Abraham could strap a suicide vest to an innocent child, or blow up guiltless guests at a Passover Seder, or fly planes into office buildings filled with unsuspecting workers. In truth, the men who carry out these savage acts serve no higher goal than their own desire for power. They accept no God before themselves. And they reserve a special hatred for the most ardent defenders of liberty, including Americans and Israelis.

And that is why the founding charter of Hamas calls for the "elimination" of Israel. And that is why the followers of Hezbollah chant "Death to Israel, Death to America!" That is why Osama bin Laden teaches that "the killing of Jews and Americans is one of the biggest duties." And that is why the President of Iran dreams of returning the Middle East to the Middle Ages and calls for Israel to be wiped off the map.

That's a good point. There's a good summary of that sentiment in post 18.

As far as people believing preposterous things, Muhammad's Night Journey to Jerusalem is the closest thing to a miracle his is reported to have done. (Although his wife Aisha reported that it was his spirit that went to Jerusalem, and that his body remained in bed.)

Again, all religions believe in supernatural doings. I don't really care how the plot of any holy book ends, unless it ends with me at the business end of a beheading knife. If Islam was a religion content to march down the streets whipping themselves bloody, like they do here in Iraq for Ashura, I'd be all for it.

It's that they're not content to only flog themselves.

While I most certainly don’t cotton to Islam, I don’t consider my country to be at war with anyone because they’re Muslims. I consider that a state of war exists because of the political ideology and ACTIONS of those who target innocent human life to further their own political ends.

The protection of innocent human life is, or at least once was, the bedrock founding principle of America.

Of course, the actions of the abortionists in America make the international terrorists look like pikers.

It’s all the same spirit, of course.

Got to remember that what brought about the reformation of Christianity in Europe was the invention of the printing press that printed the Bible in different languages other then in then in Latin.

A major factor, to be sure. Today, there are more books being translated into Spanish every year than have ever been translated into Arabic. Islamic tradition is simply not culturally or scientifically curious.

Another twist on the issue is that the Quran is not supposed to be translated out of Arabic, but the Classical Arabic it is written in is in many places indecipherable. Up to 1/5 of the Quran simply doesn't make sense, even to an educated MSA (Modern Standard Arabic) speaker. Try reading a translated version of the Quran sometime. The Quran largely reads like someone played the telephone game, whispering a sentence around the room, before writing it down.

But we're not even supposed to read that much. Just take the imam's word on what the Quran says. He speaks Arabic. You don't need to read it yourself. Besides, who are you gonna believe? Him, or your lying eyes.

We get an understanding on how it was with the Bible before the coming of the printing press, it was done by hand by clostered, I hope the spelling is correct, monks in Latin. The Church for this reason did the same thing during the middle ages, not permit the faithful to read the Bible.

And which wife would that be? One of his wives was his daughter-in-law - YES. Another thing in the Qu’ran that he wrote - the only Guaranteed path to Paradise is to either kill for Islam or die for Islam (as a martyr).

Since Mohammed himself did neither (didn’t personally kill, only ordered it done, many times), he was quoted as saying in his old age, that even HE didn’t know whether he would get to Paradise, or where he’d be going after his death.

If people would only study this religion and its teachings -it’s relentless and it’s scary.

Aisha was the wife he married at six, and consummated the marriage at nine. I believe you're thinking of Zaynab, a trophy wife that Muhammand married off to his adopted son Zayd. Basically, to show that Islam was all about equality of various social classes, Muhammand arranged a marriage between his adopted Zayd, who was a freed slave, and Zaynab, who was a smoking hot rich girl. Apparently Zayd didn't really care for her attitude, she didn't care for his upbringing, and upon realizing that the Prophet was completely smitten by her, eventually tried to escape from the marriage by persuading Muhammad that he should take her for a wife instead.

At first the Prophet refused, because God (or the angel Gabriel, I forget which) had personally informed him that those two should be married. After a while, God (or Gabriel) personally updated this him that Zaynab should be his wife instead.

I divorce you, I divorce you, I divorce you. I do, I do. Consummate, consummate, consummate. This made everyone happy.

IIRC, there's some kind of practical lesson drawn from this for Muslims, as far as marriage customs. I only remember the story because it's a prime example of how Muhammad often employed a literal deus ex machina to create Islamic laws that were personally convenient to him.
