I saw one of these land a Rebublic in Farmingdale LI NY a week or so ago. Real attention grabber. It stopped traffic on the perimeter road, and it was amazing how many guys had a camera to take picturs with. B-17 put in an apprarance as well. saw it land and take off twice. (Won’t be seeing that sort of thing much longer).

I've seen the Blue Angels Fat Albert C-130 take off a few times. It's an amazing sight.

I loved to watch a JATO takeoff.

I had the privilege of riding in one from Oceana, VA to Rosy Roads, Puerto Rico in 1967 before we deployed to Viet Nam.

But the best memory is more recent, the 440th, in Milwaukee, which is no more, would buzz the 4th of July parades. They'd come in a line right down the parade route, man what a roar! Sure did make you want to stand up and wave a flag.

I had a few chances to fly with the 440th. It was really fun to watch the pallets fly out the back. The fresh air from the back door was a welcome relief from the kerosene exhaust smell that permeated the cargo area.

I think they are retiring that particular one.

They are still active aircraft.
