Scott McClellan Originally Wanted to Attack Media, Defend Bush
NewsBusters.org ^ | Matthew Sheffield

Posted on 06/02/2008 8:07:42 AM PDT by RatherBiased.com

Although today his book is being touted by left-wing reporters and pundits, his initial plans for the project show former White House press secretary Scott McClellan intended to take a much different approach, one that was more sympathetic to President Bush but also quite hard on the "liberal elites" of the Washington press corps and their "hostility" toward the administration.

Reading through McClellan's original book proposal, obtained by Politico.com, it is clear that before his editor Peter Osnos took the book on a sharp leftward turn, McClellan wanted to turn the tables on foes in the press gallery including far-left columnist Helen Thomas and NBC correspondent David Gregory.

"I came to know and respect those who were assigned to the White House beat. They are solid professionals, but rarely scrutinized or put under the microscope. I will take a look at notable personalities in the White House Briefing Room, including David Gregory and Helen Thomas. I anticipate an entire chapter about the former," McClellan writes in his proposal.

According to McClellan, America's elite journalists have a dramatic problem with political diversity which in turn leads them to skew the political debate in a leftward direction. The media are in a "constant state of denial" when it comes to admitting this.

But then he figured out there was more money to be made by attacking Bush and sucking up to the media?

Is that right?

I guess the whore got sidetracked by a “john” with more money?

Bush knew this whore for YEARS, and couldn’t figure him out.
I KNEW he was out of his element the FIRST time he faced the press in his job as spokesperson...

If anyone has seen a Scott McClellan news conference, you would be convinced that Scotty was intentionally sabotaging the administration's effort.

Having a "new tone" attitude and hiring old buddies regardless of ideological vetting, you get crap like this.

Wow, it is amazing that this total rewrite of McClellan's book by the Pravda Media has been disclosed so quickly thanks to the investigative forces of the true media! The battle for the soul of the country is joined, thanks for the new media we have a chance to preempt the lying left media.

McClellan is doing in his book exactly what he did in his job.

He is being trotted out to deliver a message crafted by someone else.

He did it in the White House.

He does it in his book for his new left wing employers.

He obviously doesn’t have an original thought of his own.

Robert Novak’s column today pretty much destroys McClellan's take on the Plame affair (which is most of the book.) Novak points out that its obvious several writers contributed whole sections to the book...

How could this be the case when the guy is out on the talk show circuit not only spewing the crap in the book, but also sucking up to the likes of Richard Clarke? There’s way too much of McClellan eagerly trashing the Bush administration for this to be credible. He may have wanted to take a few shots at some of the White House press corps, but I’m not buying he was going to write a positive book about his former employer only to be thwarted by his evil editor who rewrote it just before printing.

I'm thinking the Soros/MoveOn.org mafia have some dirt on Scottie. They wrote his book for him, made him an offer he couldn't refuse to go on the talk shows to defend it... or else.

Sort of like "Luca Brasi held a gun to his head and assured him that either his signature or his brains would be on the release."

part of the problem with conservatives is that they don’t go out and build book sales for people who want to attack the media - but the RATS have 5 or 6 major publishers ready willing and able to write books on failed Bush policies, the dirty tricks of the 200 election, the dirty air and water created by the terrible people that bring you JOBS. We are forever going to be the butt of late nite jokes and MSM headlines till we turn the tables.

Welcome to the wonderful world of modern publishing, Scotty. It isn't the book you proposed, it's the one your editor approved. Thing is, though, no matter who really wrote it that's your name on it.

At some point there was sign-off. At some point McClellan knew what the finished product said and unless he really does have the IQ of a turnip must have known how it would be used. No excuses.

Hmmm. I was having a conversation at lunch yesterday with friends and they believe that he didn’t even really write the book, that someone with a leftist slant actually did the work. Well, who knows, but if he intended to write the way it looks here, what happened? Greed??

I caught a few minutes of Tammy Bruce on the radio filling in for Laura Ingraham this morning, and she was suggesting that there was dirt on Scottie-boy that was involved in how he was flipped. She didn’t use the word “blackmail” and she was a bit circumspect, but she did suggest there were “activities” of his that put him into a very vulnerable position, and that Soros lackeys had exploited his vulnerabilities. Did anyone catch all of the show or does anyone know more?
